Right, all set for the start. Parthiv and Dhawan opening for India. I am Nitin Sundar, taking you through the first half of the game. Sid Talya will take over later. Ravi Rampaul has the new ball.

Aravind: "Both Munaf and Praveen Kumar had a better IPL than Ishant... FYI Praveen bowled 5 Maidens in the IPL its the max in one season." Fair enough. Can't for the life of me figure out why M Vijay is not in the team, though.

nntnag: "I can't believe Ishant is not in playing XI after such great IPL..shame" All in good time.. He will surely get his chance in the ODIs.

A nice touch to start the tour off. Viv Richards faces a ceremonial opening ball from Harbhajan, and essays a classic forward defensive to the leg side. And meanwhile, this inimitable tweet from the inimitable Chris Gayle: "Morning all....thanks for tweet up call :-) no off to game!!"

More delights from Gayle's twitter-feed.. This yesterday: "Hey I got WICB V. President sitting next to me on flight...lol this is a good meeting...I'm fit for tomorrow lol! I'm the best, not lying lol" Three LoLs in one tweet ... Legend!

Sammy: "There's a bit of weather around .. Always helps to bat second in that situation." West Indies are fielding the same XI that beat Pakistan in the lone T20.

West Indies XI (in alphabetical order): Sammy (capt), Barnwell, Bishoo, Bravo, Fletcher, Hyatt, Nurse, Rampaul, Russell, Samuels and Simmons

Raina: "Our guys have been playing a lot of cricket. It always does a bit in West Indies," says Raina, a veteran of two tours of West Indies before this. Badrinath and Dhawan get T20 debuts. India have an uber-strong line-up, with lots of in-form batsmen thanks to the IPL. There are five off-spinning options in the XI, and just two that seam.

India XI: Parthiv, Dhawan, Raina (capt), Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Badrinath, Yusuf Pathan, Ashwin, Harbhajan, Praveen, Munaf

Raina is wearing a blue pair of shoes. Reminds me of the Power shoe brand, famous in India!

Toss: West Indies have won the toss and choose to bowl. More updates as and when we get them. The TV coverage is showing us dated stuff instead. There is a little bit of moisture in the air, and that explains the decision to field.

The toss is almost upon us. In the meantime, always a nice idea to check and follow our twitter handle - @espncricinfo.

Hello all! Welcome to our live coverage of the India tour of West Indies, starting with the one-off T20 today. The pre-tour build-up has been about Gayle, and about the decision to rest several senior India cricketers ... the ones who weren't already injured that is. Sriram Veera's series preview grapples with the many variables that have dominated in the lead-up.

The seniors are missing, and that's a body blow for the TV broadcasters who will find it tough to sell this series to an Indian public well overdosed on cricket. But therein lies an opportunity for the young brigade. As I type this, the TV presenters are trying to sell this game as a battle between Mishra and Bishoo ... Meanwhile, Sid Monga goes one step closer to the action in his match preview. There has been some rain around the lovely Queen's Park Oval, but all good so far today.

0.1

Rampaul to PA Patel, 1 run, India are away, Parthiv taps a length ball with a little extra bounce to the off side and they scoot across.

One widish slip in place.

Sriram Veera updates from the ground: "Very very light drizzle still on. Stands not full yet."

0.2

Rampaul to Dhawan, no run, length ball, look sot angle across Dhawan who defends off the inside half to the leg side.

0.3

Rampaul to Dhawan, no run, short and wide outside off, Dhawan cuts well but can't get it past Barnwell at gully.

0.4

Rampaul to Dhawan, no run, Whoa! Dhawan closes the face a little too early, the ball hits a strange spot on the good length area and a huge chunk of turf comes off. Dhawan is hit on the glove and looks a little unruffled.

0.5

Rampaul to Dhawan, 1 wide, slides this one down the leg side from over the wicket and it is called a wide.

0.5

Rampaul to Dhawan, 1 wide, Rampaul pushes another one down the leg side.

0.5

Rampaul to Dhawan, no run, over-pitched outside off, and Dhawan moves nicely into a cover drive but doesn't time it too well.

0.6

Rampaul to Dhawan, no run, dicey from Dhawan, feet rooted on leg stump, he flays at a wide ball outside off and misses.

Russell runs in for the second over.

1.1

Russell to PA Patel, 1 run, run out chance missed. Short ball outside off, Parthiv dabs it away to the off side and Sammy moves quickly from slip to field it and fire in the throw as Dhawan runs in. A direct hit would have made things interesting.

1.2

Russell to Dhawan, 1 run, Dhawan gets a single, length ball on off stump that hinted at straightening in, and Dhawan taps to the leg side for one.

1.3

Russell to PA Patel, 1 run, top-shot and superb fielding from Nurse at mid-off. It was over-pitched on the stumps and Parthiv punches it with pristine timing, past the bowler. Nurse moves quickly to his left, dives and stops a sure four.

1.4

Russell to Dhawan, 1 run, full and on the leg side, Dhawan drives without timing to the leg side for another single.

1.5

Russell to PA Patel, 1 run, in the air, but safe, again the ball rises extra from a length... this pitch is a little up and down. Parthiv fended it to the leg side without control and it landed safely after hanging in the air for a while.

1.6

Russell to Dhawan, 1 run, gets the outside edge, but Dhawan keeps it down and gets it past the slip diving away to the left.

Sammy comes on now.

2.1

Sammy to Dhawan, 1 run, Barnwell fumbles at backward point, and that makes the single easy. Dhawan guided it straight to him and took off.

2.2

Sammy to PA Patel, no run, jaffa from Sammy, he produced a few of these against Pakistan. Lands on a length, innocuously and at friendly pace, and then goes into the right hander, away from the left hander. Parthiv plays a lazy whip, and misses.

2.3

Sammy to PA Patel, 1 run, he gets the single this time, stays back in the crease and drops it into the covers.

2.4

Sammy to Dhawan, 1 run, Dhawan lines up a big off-drive, and gets good connection, but can't get past mid-off.

2.5

Sammy to PA Patel, 1 run, India still boundary-less, Parthiv taps into the off side this time and gets a single.

2.6

Sammy to Dhawan, OUT, West Indies strike. Dhawan is gone, to a rather forgettable shot. Effort ball from Sammy, and at pace, there's no excuse for not seeing it early. It was banged in short, and bounced extra. Dhawan tried to stay beside the line and guide it over the slips, but never got into position. He ended up angling the bat at it, got the outside edge and the keeper takes it well, jumping up.

3.1

Rampaul to PA Patel, no run, another lazy shot from Parthiv, he doesn't move forward enough to the pitch of the ball and then drives on the up. Rampaul's angle takes it away from him and he misses by some distance.

3.2

Rampaul to PA Patel, FOUR, fuller, in Parthiv country, and he deals with it with an up-and-over carved drive over point. Very well timed, nearly a six that.

3.3

Rampaul to PA Patel, no run, Rampaul responds with a shorter ball, Parthiv hangs back and defends to the off side. No chance for a single.

3.4

Rampaul to PA Patel, 1 run, well-fielded by the stumps. Length ball on the stumps, and Parthiv absolutely whacks it right back. The stumps come in the way and stop a sure four.

Hahahah! Gayle is in the stands. Wearing a pair of shades that is the very epitome of bling. And a cap that says 'Captain'. LoLz~ Jerome Taylor also in the crowd.

3.5

Rampaul to Kohli, 1 run, Sammy prowls at point. Kohli is away, staying on the back foot and dabbing backward of point and Sammy keeps him down to a single

3.6

Rampaul to PA Patel, no run, yorker of sorts on off stump, Parthiv digs it out to the off side.

4.1

Sammy to Kohli, no run, full-length ball on off stump, Kohli leans out with assurance and steers to point.

4.2

Sammy to Kohli, 1 run, this one angles into the pads, Kohli helps it along with the wrists and he gets the single.

4.3

Sammy to PA Patel, no run, Parthiv's timing is in top-gear, placement not there yet. Over-pitched by Sammy on off stump and Parthiv gets to the pitch and smokes it, but straight to short extra cover. The keeper immediately moves up to the stumps.

4.4

Sammy to PA Patel, 1 run, short of a length and cutting away, Parthiv stays in the crease and angles it backward of point

4.5

Sammy to Kohli, 1 run, wrists from Kohli, ensures he plays late enough to get it backward of point for one.

4.6

Sammy to PA Patel, FOUR, French Open time in Trinidad. Short ball from Sammy, at amiable pace, it sits up and asks to be smashed, and Parthiv obliges with a fore-handed whack past the bowler.

5.1

Russell to Kohli, (no ball) FOUR, shot of the morning from Kohli, and off a no-ball too. Over-pitched by Russell outside off and Kohli leans into a pleasing cover drive.

5.1

Russell to Kohli, FOUR, swatted away. If Russell's been watching the IPL, he'd know that this is a trademark Kohli shot. Length ball, angling in towards the pads and Kohli gets the front foot across before swat-flicking it with disdain behind square leg.

5.2

Russell to Kohli, 1 run, short of a length outside off, Kohli taps from the crease into the off side for another single.

5.3

Russell to PA Patel, SIX, pick-up-and-drop! Looking at Parthiv's build, it is tough to imagine he can generate such power, but he is a man with a good knowledge of physics and leverage. Length ball on middle and angling away, the pint-sized dynamo gets half across and whips it all the way over midwicket. Punchy and powerful.

5.4

Russell to PA Patel, 2 runs, fuller this time and a big drop in pace too, and he tries to repeat the shot but ends up scooping it higher, rather than far. Lands safe though around midwicket.

5.5

Russell to PA Patel, 1 run, slower offcutter, short of a length and Parthiv guides backward of point for a single.

5.6

Russell to Kohli, 1 run, finishes with a full ball outside off, Kohli reaches across to steer towards point. That over has ignited India's innings, and indeed India's tour.

6.3

Sammy to Kohli, 1 run, fuller and a touch wider outside off, Kohli opens the blade and plays it into the covers for a single.

The drizzle continues to spit away.

6.4

Sammy to PA Patel, 1 run, Sammy wisely keeps it short of a length, Parthiv dabs from the crease to the point region.

6.5

Sammy to Kohli, OUT, Kohli goes, and it is a moment for the cameramen. Slower ball from Sammy, full and enticing the early drive. Kohli fell for it, getting forward and looking to play across a little early, and he got a big leading edge. It ballooned up between point and cover, and both went for it. Not much calling, as Samuels and Hyatt converged. Almost a collision, but Hyatt holds the ball while Samuels holds Hyatt. And then they argue over who should have taken it!

6.6

Sammy to PA Patel, OUT, Sammy on a hat-trick! India have a long line-up, and seem keen to give everyone a chance today. 7.1

7.3

7.4

7.5

Nurse to Raina, 1 run, Raina is away, pushes an offbreak turning away into the covers and gives it to Badri.

7.6

Nurse to Badrinath, FOUR, Badri is in some form, and it is showing already. Lovely little steer and it runs away to third man. Full ball tossed up and breaking in, Badri leans out languidly, opens the face at an impossible angle and gets it past the keeper . Third man did not have a chance.

8.3

Sammy to Badrinath, 1 run, offcutter strays down, Badri glances down to fine leg for one more.

8.4

Sammy to Raina, OUT, Captain takes captain out! Sammy has four, and he's been a revelation with the ball this Caribbean summer. Length ball, it is just the nagging hold he has had on the batsmen that has brought this about. The ball landed on a length and seemed to grip again, came off slower than Raina thought and he went for the expansive loft over midwicket. Ended up miscuing it straight to mid-on, who takes it well running back.

15.4

Rampaul to Badrinath, 1 no ball, Samuels has taken a screamer and Badri's innings is over. Or is it? It might be a no-ball! What a tragedy! Stunner at cover, it initially got the crowd and the lovely ladies in the stands on their feet. It was over-pitched on off stump, and Badri slotted the cover-drive powerfully if somewhat uppishly, but Samuels moved rapidly to latch on as he stretched to his right. All goes waste. Rampaul has over-stepped, the third umpire says belatedly.

Free-hit time.

15.4

Rampaul to Badrinath, FOUR, another near-catch, another stupendous effort in the deep, this time from Nurse. Here's what happened: Badri stayed in the crease and got under a length ball on off stump, and tried to hoist it over extra-cover. He couldn't get as much elevation as he wanted, and it seemed set to land a couple of feet inside the ropes. Nurse at wide long-off, hurried across, dived full-length and got the ball in his grasp as he sprawled forward. He kept sliding along, and the momentum was taking him towards the ropes. He tried to flick it away before touching the rope, but replays say he might have touched. It's been ruled a four, which is a little weird. That was either six, or two. Might have touched the ground before touching the rope.

16.5

For all that talk about the IPL and the instant heroes ... Badri and Rohit were the highest run-getters in the Ranji season. Not their fault that no one noticed.

17.2

Barnwell to Badrinath, 1 run, Badri stays on the crease and angles a length ball to short third man for one.

17.3

Barnwell to Sharma, SIX, clubbed. Clouted. Clobbered. Take your pick. Length ball angling into Rohit, who gets under it and whacks the leather off it, before the ball lands in the greens behind long-on.

17.4

Barnwell to Sharma, OUT, six and out. Barnwell bowls a very similar ball, tempting Rohit to have another go. Rohit obliges, looks to go straighter this time, but just misses a straight ball and the furniture is rearranged.

RG Sharma b Barnwell 26 (33m 23b 0x4 2x6) SR: 113.04

Raj: "WI side seems to offer Badri more chances than the Indian selectors did... Poor guy he deserves these chances!"

Yusuf Pathan makes his swaggering way out to the middle, chewing gum in place.

17.5

Barnwell to Pathan, 1 wide, Barnwell slips another one down the leg side.

Meanwhile, Li Na wins the French Open. Power to China!

17.5

Barnwell to Pathan, no run, fuller length, Yusuf pushes into the covers.

17.6

Barnwell to Pathan, SIX, some types of batsmen like to go after certain types of bowlers. For Yusuf, that certain type in this West Indies attack is Barnwell. Back of length ball - check. Zero pace - check. On middle and leg - check. Ball in the midwicket stands - check.

End of over 18 (20 runs) India 134/5 (RR: 7.44)
YK Pathan    6* (2b 1x6)      CD Barnwell    2-0-24-1
S Badrinath    43* (36b 5x4)      D Bishoo    3-0-21-0

18.1

Bishoo to Badrinath, OUT, the un-outable has been outed. Classic piece of legspin deception from Bishoo. Who said there can't be beauty in T20s? 19th over of the innings.. the leggie comes on and tosses it up with drift, temptingly on leg stump. Badri senses a kill, and skips out to the pitch, but falls just short as the ball drops on him, lands, grips and tweaks away past the bat. The keeper does the rest. Late clarification: Badri got an edge as he toppled out of the crease, and was hence caught. Not stumped.

S Badrinath c †Fletcher b Bishoo 43 (47m 37b 5x4 0x6) SR: 116.21

18.2

Bishoo to Harbhajan Singh, no run, full again, on leg stump, Harbhajan plays it back to the bowler.

18.3

Bishoo to Harbhajan Singh, 2 runs, handly hoick from Harbhajan, gets under a tossed up ball and whacks it to midwicket for one

18.4

Bishoo to Harbhajan Singh, 1 run, shorter outside off, Harbhajan forehands it down to mid-off for one more. Yusuf likes to play spin.

18.5

Bishoo to Pathan, SIX, there's a nice blue sky in Trinidad, and there's a ball soaring through it. And now it lands in the member's pavilion, and it's beautifully taken by a man in the crowd. Not full enough from Bishoo, it breaks away from Yusuf who frees his arms and sends it into orbit. Swirler.

18.6

Bishoo to Pathan, 1 run, nearly yorks him in response, and Yusuf plays it into the midwicket area for one.

Raj: "Was Bishoo named after Bishen Singh Bedi?" Interesting question. Might have been, but the guy naming him ended up sneezing midway through the naming ceremony, presumably.

End of over 19 (10 runs) India 144/6 (RR: 7.57)
YK Pathan    13* (4b 2x6)      D Bishoo    4-0-31-1

Rampaul to finish off.

19.1

Rampaul to Pathan, 1 wide, too wide outside off, Yusuf lets it go.

19.1

Rampaul to Pathan, 1 run, full toss, swerving into the pads, and whipped without timing to midwicket for one.

Clarification: Badri got an edge as he toppled out of the crease, and was hence caught. Not stumped.

19.2

Rampaul to Harbhajan Singh, SIX, oh boy, Harbhajan has sent that into downtown Trinidad. Length from Rampaul, gets the yorkers in mate! Harbhajan isn't complaining, as he swings merrily over midwicket.

19.3

Rampaul to Harbhajan Singh, 1 run, full toss outside off, Harbhajan is confused by the height and mistimes into the covers for one

19.4

Rampaul to Pathan, 1 run, that's the length. Perfect yorker at 84 mph, and Yusuf digs it out to midwicket for one.

19.5

Rampaul to Harbhajan Singh, FOUR, superb hands from Harbhajan. Rampaul misses the yorker by a foot. It ends up a fulltoss on the middle and leg, Harbhajan whips it with unbecoming felicity and redirects it to the midwicket fence.

19.6

Rampaul to Harbhajan Singh, 1 run, Harbhajan looks to chop away outside off, and under-edges to the keeper and ambles across. Fletcher collects and throws the stumps down at the striker's end, but Yusuf makes it. Might have wanted to throw at the other end. India finish with a strong score for this pitch.

Right then, I shall get some dinner, and Sid Talya will handle commentary for the chase. Cheers, and keep the feedback coming.

Chetan: "I have been searching for it throughout this world cup and ipl.. how do i post comments in commentary?" Ping! You just did .. I am astounded by the number of such comments we keep getting.

End of over 20 (15 runs) India 159/6
