50.4

Kumar to Bravo, no run, wide of off again, left alone

The sun peeks out... Or in honour of birthday boy Ringo, Here Comes The Sun

50.5

Kumar to Bravo, no run, another facile leave outside off

In interest of fairness I shouldn't be publishing this, but I don't believe in jinxes. Although eric Richards consumed one yesterday. He is back again: "Bravo evokes so many memories of BCL. And he is the last hope for the Windies. Windies have frittered away a very good lost toss which gave them a beautiful chance to set up a big score!" PK goes round the stumps

50.6

Kumar to Bravo, no run, another leave outside off, it's Bravo's patience v India

End of over 51 (maiden) West Indies 116/5

51.2

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, back of a length, stays back and pushes it to cover

51.3

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, 1 run, push-drive this time, between cover and cover-point, they think of two but decide against it. Bravo is not the best of runners

Second slip in now after those two edges last over

51.4

Harbhajan Singh to Bravo, no run, defended off the middle of the bat this time

51.5

Harbhajan Singh to Bravo, no run, with an extra slip in, Bhaj stops tossing it up, bowls flat outside off, left alone

51.6

Harbhajan Singh to Bravo, no run, this is better, nicely flighted, drawing Bravo forward, who defends it back

End of over 52 (1 run) West Indies 117/5

Raina to bowl now

52.1

Raina to Baugh, no run, flighted outside off, Baugh stretches forward, which by his dimensions is just out of the crease, and defends

52.2

Raina to Baugh, no run, defends this with an open face

52.3

Raina to Baugh, FOUR, short, wide, cut away in front of square, teases Munaf who has run all the way from point, and trickles into the rope

52.4

Raina to Baugh, 1 run, turned away into the on side, rolling his wrists over it to keep it down

52.5

Raina to Bravo, FOUR, short again, and Bravo punches it superbly, back arching away, creating room, and then the bat meeting it slightly away from the body but completely in control

52.6

Raina to Bravo, no run, full and flat, Bravo defends

End of over 53 (9 runs) West Indies 126/5

CS Baugh    17* (22b 1x4 1x6)      Harbhajan Singh    6-1-19-0

Hugh: "Ah Dhoni stop it! I love Raina, but you're one wicket away from skittling this team. Attack!" Over-rate, Hugh. Some spray being applied on Bravo's left wrist. Sunny G will say he is of course trying to make sure they can't bowl more than one over before lunch

53.1

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, nice revs on this one, but Baugh is forward to smother the spin

53.2

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, shorter, turning down the leg side, Baugh pads up with arms in the air to avoid any edge off the pad

53.3

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, short, cuts it against turn, the ball bounces on him, but he keeps it down towards point

53.4

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, back of a length, goes back and pushes this back to Harbhajan

Round the wicket now

53.5

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, angled across him, Baugh covers the line of stumps and then offers no shot

53.6

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, 1 run, turned around the corner for a single

We will have another over before lunch. Dex obviously believes in jinxes. he says: "I can't believe you guys posted a comment from Eric 'goat mouth' Richards... so much for Bravo making a century... he's lucky if he makes half that... Come on guys we need to give WI a fighting chance... talk about Bhajji taking 5 wickets" Raina to continue. Round the stumps

54.1

Raina to Baugh, no run, full and wide, driven to mid-off

54.2

Raina to Baugh, no run, short, on the stumps, shapes to pull, then aborts the shot

54.3

Raina to Baugh, no run, flat again, pushed to mid-off... wonder why any batsman will want to not face more of this

54.4

Raina to Baugh, no run, length ball now, but flat, and defended again

54.5

Raina to Baugh, 1 run, pushed into the covers for one

54.6

Raina to Bravo, no run, flat around off again, Bravo defends, and walks off for lunch

And we are off for lunch. Come back at 12.40pm for what should be an extended session, weather permitting. Looks clearish right now. Eric Richards strikes back. He says: "Its totally unfair - what have I done! These days even supporting a team in construed as unpatriotic. Once cannot subsidize for the lack of a batsmen's batting skills and getting out limply. You tell me, does the pitch look dangerous at all ?" I hear you buddy

End of over 55 (1 run) West Indies 128/5

Back after lunch, a minute to start. Munaf to bowl, two slips and a gully

55.1

Patel to Baugh, no run, good surprise start to the session with a yorker, Baugh plays inside the line. The ball is just outside off

55.2

Patel to Baugh, 2 runs, guided with an open face, past gully, comes back for two

55.3

Patel to Baugh, no run, beautiful legcutter, and a big appeal for catch at the wicket, just holds its line just outside off, making Baugh play, beating the edge by inches

55.4

Patel to Baugh, 1 run, gets well across to cover the line, and drops it into the covers for a single

55.5

Patel to Bravo, no run, bowls his stock length, just back of a length, around middle and leg, pushed to midwicket

55.6

Patel to Bravo, no run, length ball, looks to drive, but doesn't make good connection

Ishant to bowl

56.1

Sharma to Baugh, FOUR, nicely cut away, he might be a short man but he rides the bounce really well, hits it at the top of the bounce, between gully and point... good, positive batting

56.2

Sharma to Baugh, 1 run, goes wide of the crease, Baugh drives away from the body, gets a thick inside edge for one

Goes round the wicket to Bravo

56.3

Sharma to Bravo, FOUR, this might look like an edge, but this is nicely guided between slip and gully, off the face of the bat, which was open... Soft hands make sure it doesn't go in the air

56.4

Sharma to Bravo, FOUR, nearly carries to extra cover, this one is full, and shapes away from Bravo, who drives nonetheless. The ball goes uppishly, but falls short of Vijay at extra cover, and bursts through his hands

56.5

Sharma to Bravo, 1 run, Fifty for Bravo, he has worked hard for it, and deserves all the applause from the crowd. This one was angled in, and he deflected it to long leg

Anand: "@Eric: That is why theatre actors believe in "Break a leg" rather than "good luck"!"

56.6

Sharma to Baugh, 1 run, short, into the ribs, guided down to fine leg for a single - 15 off the over

End of over 57 (15 runs) West Indies 146/5
CS Baugh    28* (40b 2x4 1x6)      I Sharma    16-3-55-2
DM Bravo    50* (130b 8x4)      MM Patel    14-6-21-1

57.1

Patel to Baugh, FOUR, flashes at one wide outside off, gets a thick edge and it flies just to the left of gully. Kohli couldn't have done anything about this. Fifty for the partnership, off 66 balls

57.2

Patel to Baugh, FOUR, another thick edge, this time to the right of gully, which had just moved finer after that previous edge. Munaf gives Baugh - half his size - some lip

57.3

Patel to Baugh, no run, Munaf teases him this time, floating this outside off, Baugh lets it go. Munaf stares. Baugh doesn't look at him

57.4

Patel to Baugh, 4 runs, Naughty Vijay at mid-off, Baugh drives this wide of mid-off, and Vijay dives after the ball has past him, perhaps trying to avoid the chase. The outfield, however, is slow, and he has to get up and retrieve the ball. In the meanwhile, they run four. Munaf is not impressed

57.5

Patel to Baugh, no run, good comeback by Munaf, lovely legcutter, just outside off, misses the edge, though

57.6

Patel to Baugh, no run, bouncer this time, 85mph, chest-high for Baugh, who sways out of its line

End of over 58 (12 runs) West Indies 158/5
CS Baugh    40* (46b 4x4 1x6)      MM Patel    15-6-33-1
DM Bravo    50* (130b 8x4)      I Sharma    16-3-55-2

58.1

Sharma to Bravo, no run, left alone outside off, good discipline from Bravo so far

58.2

Sharma to Bravo, no run, Dravid is claiming it, Bravo stands his ground. This is a full ball outside off, overpitched, moving away, Bravo gets the edge as he drives, but it is dying on Dravid who thinks he has got his fingers underneath it. Interesting replays. Front angle suggests the fingers are under it. The angle from behind suggests the ball might have touched the ground. Have to go with the batsman with these calls. Long discussion before the right decision is made

58.3

Sharma to Bravo, no run, Bravo is back to better discipline, and doesn't go chasing this wide one

58.4

Sharma to Bravo, OUT, Sharma gets his man. It's been a battle of attrition against Bravo, but in the end it is a good delivery rather than a wide one outside off that has got the wicket. Sharma goes slightly wider of the crease, this angles in towards Bravo, who is looking to withdraw his bat, but the ball chases him, and kisses the edge. Bravo walks

DM Bravo c †Dhoni b Sharma 50 (193m 134b 8x4 0x6) SR: 37.31

Silly mid-on for Sammy, the new batsman. Must be something Dhoni remembers about Sammy's batting from previous Tests

58.5

Sharma to Sammy, 1 run, back of a length, pushed into the covers

58.6

Sharma to Baugh, 1 run, cut away, keeps it down even though it gets a bit big on him, gets a single to third man

End of over 59 (2 runs) West Indies 160/6

59.1

Patel to Baugh, no run, driven on the up, Baugh is striking them hard, this one doesn't beat short cover, though

59.2

Patel to Baugh, FOUR, nice back-cut, good hands there, opening the face late, past gully. Baugh is annoying Munaf here

59.3

Patel to Baugh, 1 run, full outswinger, a good delivery, but Baugh drops it with soft hands and takes the single. That will further annoy the bowler

59.4

Patel to Sammy, no run, goes wide of the crease for a surprise yorker, but sends it too far down the leg side

Silly mid-on again for Sammy, and a short midwicket

59.5

Patel to Sammy, FOUR, and he bowls a low full toss wide outside off, and Sammy crashes it through cover. Interestingly the man to short midwicket was brought from cover

59.6

Patel to Sammy, no run, goes wide of the crease, angled in towards off, Sammy shoulders arms

60.1

Sharma to Baugh, no run, angled down the leg side, Baugh tries to play but misses

Three staggered slips

60.2

Sharma to Baugh, FOUR, What a way to get to his 50! The most Caribbean of flicks. Length ball, looks nonchalantly, and then at the last moment, the wrists whip through it... over midwicket, nearly carried for six

60.3

Sharma to Baugh, no run, solid forward defensive draws a big cheer from the crowd - almost as big as the fifty

60.4

Sharma to Baugh, no run, late swing in towards him, Baugh covers it and defends

60.5

Sharma to Baugh, no run, holds its line outside off, beats the outside edge... good stuff from Sharma

60.6

Sharma to Baugh, 2 runs, nice drive, on the up, with an open face, past point, wide of sweeper-cover

Ben: "Chanderpaul scored thirteen 50s in his first 18 tests before scoring his first 100. Bravo has six 50s in his 8th test. He could pick a worse player to emulate." Meanwhile Harbhajan comes back

61.1

Harbhajan Singh to Sammy, no run, fullish, Sammy looks to cut, and is beaten

61.2

Harbhajan Singh to Sammy, no run, comes forward this time, defending it back to Bhaj

61.3

Harbhajan Singh to Sammy, no run, forward in defence again

61.4

Harbhajan Singh to Sammy, 1 run, sharp turn, not cuttable length, but he goes for it, and has to back away a long way because the ball follows him. the inside edge evades the stumps

61.5

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, Bhajan gets into a running-backwards lbw appeal as Baugh plays right across the stumps and is beaten. However, it has hit him outside the line of off

61.6

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, pushes forward to defend this

62.1

Sharma to Sammy, FOUR, short and wide, and Sammy pulls this, dragging it from well outside off, and through midwicket. West Indies forceful now

62.2

Sharma to Sammy, no run, there is some flair to Sammy's batting, punches this to cover, doesn't find the gap, but stands tall and plays this nicely for the cameras

The umpires having a look at the ball. they stay on with the same ball

62.3

Sharma to Sammy, no run, appeal for lbw, and only interested in it because Sammy was padding up. This is pitched well outside off, comes back in, and hits the top of the pad. No way it is hitting

62.4

Sharma to Sammy, no run, goes for the full ball - surely there is a plan to surprise Sammy with a yorker, that's how Sharma got him last match. Sammy keeps this one out

62.5

Sharma to Sammy, no run, fullish, outside off, played back to Ishant

62.6

Sharma to Sammy, no run, this is back of a length, holds its line outside off, and Sammy plays at it, but after it has passed the stumps

63.2

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, flighted outside off again, Baugh pushes forward and defends again

63.3

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, shimmies down the track to defend this back to Harbhajan

63.4

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, there is some drift in this one, but it is also overpitched, not creating any distance from the bat. Baugh dead-bats it back

63.5

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, comes down the track, and pads this away

63.6

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, no run, another forward defensive, this time it is looped outside off, but Baugh is right behind it

64.1

Sharma to Sammy, no run, edged, but it falls short of Dhoni who is diving forward. Good delivery, straightening outside off again, Sammy pushes, gets the edge, but it falls short. Sunny G rightly makes the point that even after so many edges falling short, the slippers and the keeper haven't come up

64.2

Sharma to Sammy, FOUR, nicely forced away, almost a back-cut, stands tall to play it, past gully... this is a good counterattack

64.3

Sharma to Sammy, no run, goes wide of the crease, angles this in, towards top of off, Sammy defends

Jackals are getting married... it's raining in the sunshine

64.4

Sharma to Sammy, SIX, Lovely, lovely shot... West Indies written all over it. On the up, high elbow, goes over mid-off, and then imparts awesome power in the end

Another look at the ball. Sammy has tonked it all right. We are getting a change of ball now. This is also time for a water break

64.5

Sharma to Sammy, no run, wide of the crease, angled in towards off, Sammy pushes it to mid-off, wants a single, but is sent back

This ball is shining more for sure

64.6

There is a sister in the crowd. She is doing some paper work. Keeping scores? Correcting school papers? I'd be pleased with the latter, because I recently met a teacher who corrects papers on her laptop! Just doesn't sound right

65.1

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, 2 runs, comes down the track and pushes this past cover for two

Harbhajan goes over the wicket

65.2

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, 2 leg byes, goes for the big sweep, misses, gets two leg-byes towards fine leg

65.3

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, 2 runs, lovely inside-out drive, bursts through Laxman at cover, who is late in coming down on it

65.4

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, 1 run, Sammy is caught ball-watching... this is well wide of midwicket, and they should be taking an easy single. Sunny G rightly says, "He should be Baugh-watching."

65.5

Harbhajan Singh to Sammy, no run, big appeal for leg-before but this is pitched outside leg. No further arguments

66.2

Patel to Baugh, no run, dropped by Kohli, but a really tough chance at cover. hit with some force, and well to his left, but Kohli dives and gets his hands to it. Just can't hold on to it

66.3

Round the wicket to Sammy

67.1

Harbhajan Singh to Sammy, OUT, No. 399 for Harbhajan. Scrambled seam on this one, Sammy looks for a forward defensive, but this is not full enough, bounces a touch extra, takes the inside edge onto the pad, and swallowed at FSL. Harbhajan keeps appealing for a long long time, only for Asad Rauf to point to him that the batsman has walked off. That's the typical Harbhajan appeal, running backwards with his back to the batsman

DJG Sammy c Mukund b Harbhajan Singh 20 (42m 23b 3x4 1x6) SR: 86.95

Fidel "Castro" Edwards gets a promotion. A slip, a leg slip, a silly point, an FSL. Harbhajan looking for No. 400

69.4

Harbhajan Singh to Baugh, OUT, Timber! Harbhajan becomes the 11th man in Test cricket to reach 400 Test wickets. Gets a standing ovation from the balcony, and pats on the back from the whole team. Harbhajan raises his arms to acknowledge it. Baugh plays the cut, but this is pitched just outside off, and turns back in, beats him, and takes the middle stump. let's not forget Baugh has played really well. Utkarsh has elaborate plans: "400 Bhajji!! Me and my wife will go to Mexican restaurant for party. We'll have BLUE MOON beer in drink, Acapulco Nachos in appetizer, fajita and enchiladas in dinner, and will go to baskin-robbins for black walnut and baseball nut ice-cream. HUH, can't wait till evening!"

72.6

Patel to FH Edwards, no run, wide of the crease again, down the leg side again

End of over 73 (1 run, maiden) West Indies 204/8

73.6

Harbhajan Singh to Rampaul, no run, quicker and flatter, left alone outside off

2.24pm The umpires come back on. We should have play soon. Meanwhile Paul brings out the sadness of a cricket fan's life. He writes, "My sympathies are with Utkarsh's wife. She had to wait for Harbhajan Singh to get 400 wickets for a dinner celebration with her husband."

2.21pm The sun is out, and the covers are coming off

2.15pm Light rain, and the covers are coming on. I suspect they are expecting a heavier shower

End of over 74 (maiden) West Indies 204/8
R Rampaul    0* (17b)      Harbhajan Singh    14-6-26-2
FH Edwards    3* (19b)      MM Patel    20-7-48-1

Ishant comes back

74.1

Sharma to FH Edwards, no run, bouncer wide outside off, Edwards goes for the upper-cut, connects with thin air

74.2

Sharma to FH Edwards, no run, another bouncer starting wide outside off, but coming back in, Castro has safely swayed out of harm's way

74.3

Sharma to FH Edwards, no run, this is the sharp bouncer, starts within the stumps, angles down the leg side, Castro stays away from it

74.4

Sharma to FH Edwards, no run, short and well outside off, Edwards is not reaching out for it

74.5

Sharma to FH Edwards, no run, another bouncer, and this is a peach, aimed straight at his face. Edwards fends at it, but despite the plan being to bowl bouncers there is no short leg

Short leg in now. Has the horse bolted?

74.6

Sharma to FH Edwards, OUT, No it hasn't! More timber here. Edwards is a bit rattled, and doesn't want to get behind the line and all that stuff. Looks for the pull, the ball doesn't quite come up, takes the bottom edge onto the stumps. Ishant has four now. Could go for another five-for

FH Edwards b Sharma 3 (31m 25b 0x4 0x6) SR: 12.00

End of over 75 (wicket maiden) West Indies 204/9
     I Sharma    21-4-77-4
R Rampaul    0* (17b)      Harbhajan Singh    14-6-26-2

Juror: "Sorry to rain on the parade, but does Bhajji have the highest average out of the 11 400 wicket takers?" And strike-rate, if I may add. Not in the same league as the 10 above him, but you don't get 400 without being good. Meanwhile Bishoo comes in. Rampaul on strike

End of over 76 (maiden) West Indies 204/9
R Rampaul    0* (23b)      Harbhajan Singh    15-7-26-2
D Bishoo    0* (0b)      I Sharma    21-4-77-4

Bishoo to face Ishant

76.1

Sharma to Bishoo, no run, bouncer, sharp pace, Bishoo ducks under it

76.2

Sharma to Bishoo, no run, stands tall, rides the bounce, cuts this into the ground, but can't find the gap

76.3

Sharma to Bishoo, OUT, After one thing it's two thing! Ishant took a long time getting that five-for when he did in Barbados, but he follows it up with another thoroughly deserved one. This is short again, Bishoo doesn't fancy getting in line, fends at this, plays it onto his stumps. First-ever five-for in Dominica

D Bishoo b Sharma 0 (5m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

The innings finishes around 2.40pm. India will start around 2.50pm, which means they will have around 20 minutes to see off before tea. Oh hang on, they have taken tea. Has the BCCI sent in a "request" that India not be asked to face those awkward 20 minutes before the tea break? On a more real note, I think they are expecting rain, and are covering the pitch. Just one note on Bhajji's average and strike-rate, I think he has also played on a lot of slow and low wickets in India. He usually does better on bouncy track - and this series has been an exception staring us in the face. He can frustrate you at times, but 400 is a well-earned milestone
