Pakistan in West Indies ODI Series - 1st ODI

West Indies v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 8 wickets (with 51 balls remaining)

hello hello! Welcome to the first ODI between West Indies and Pakistan. We had an interesting curtain raiser eh? West Indies looked set for 175 or so but they collapsed. And Pakistan too wobbled in the chase. The leggie Bishoo sparkled, though.

Toss West Indies have won it and have decided to bat first.

West Indies have left out Ravi Rampaul and Anthony Martin. The full XI will appear on top of this screen very soon! The teams are up there now.

All ready for the play. The batsmen are out there

Annan Boodram: "I would be surprised if the ground fills up. I suspect that fans are going to show their displeasure with the WICBC during this series. I also suspect that, based on the exchanges between CEO Hilaire and Guyana's Minister of Sports, Frank Anthiony, we might soon see a reorganization of the administration and management of Windies cricket. At least fans would hope that this happens."

Wahab Riaz to Simmons, 1 run, another single down to third man. he is angling it across the batsman

Waqar: "Why is Afridi making Riaz bowl with the new ball? We know that he is stronger when he bowls with the old ball. Sometimes Afridi's tactics makes me wonder why is he captain"

uzair is worried. Very worried. "Rameez Raja just said on air that Kamran Akmal wants to come as a batsman in the team now. What about his fielding? He cant catch the ball with gloves in hand then how can you expect him to catch the ball without gloves. Please PCB don't do that."

6.1

Mohammad Hafeez to Smith, no run, from round the stumps, just outside off stump, pushed out to short extra cover

Mohammad Hafeez to Smith, OUT, Lbw! Ashoka de Silva takes a while but nods his head eventually and raises the finger. It landed on a length on the off stump line and went on with the arm. Smith pushed outside the line and the ball went through bat and pad gap to hit him right in front of middle. That's out. Smith has a chat with his partner before he eventually turned and left. wonder what was that about

DS Smith lbw b Mohammad Hafeez 17 (31m 30b 3x4 0x6) SR: 56.66

Usman: "@Waqar, Pakistan is playing with only 2 seam bowlers, this is one reason whey Riaz is Bowling with New Ball. we never saw Riaz with new ball thats why we think he only bowls good with old ball. he is a very talented bowler. "

DM Bravo    0* (6b)      Junaid Khan    4-0-13-0

9.1

9.2

Junaid Khan to DM Bravo, 1 run, fuller and closer to the off stump line, guided down to third man

Kamran: "I wonder why Ahmad Shahzad is in playing eleven..He has just scored 338 runs in 14 matches with avg of 26.00 without a 50 scored..i think rather then dropping an experienced all rounder like Abdul Razzak,Ahmad should have been dropped!!"

9.3

Junaid Khan to Simmons, 3 runs, Simmons goes down town. He played similar shots in the Twenty20 game. He leaned forward to lift the length delivery up and over mid-on

Junaid Khan to DM Bravo, no run, in the corridor outside off and Bravo is beaten, pushing inside the line

Robin is steaming: "Why isn`t Ravi Rampaul in the side? Kirk Edwards is taking his place at the moment....that doesn`t make any sense. With Rampaul in the side you`ll have 3 fast bowlers with Bishoo and the all rounders. Rampaul can also reverse swing the old ball which he proved in the worldcup. It`s as if you are saying another Trini shouldn`t be in the side."

End of over 10 (7 runs) West Indies 38/1 (RR: 3.80)
DM Bravo    2* (10b)      Junaid Khan    5-0-20-0
LMP Simmons    10* (21b)      Mohammad Hafeez    2-2-0-1

Isaam is puzzled: "What I don't understand is why Afridi didn't open the bowling with Hafeez like he did in the WC quarter-final. In fact as soon as the World Cup finished, captains seem to be detracting from opening with spin. It's not a flaw in Afridi's captaincy, rather it's an inherent orthodoxy that the game has instilled in everyone because of which two seamers will (almost)always open the bowling."

LMP Simmons    14* (28b)      Junaid Khan    6-0-23-0

Raahim: "I am confused why everyone is so unimpressed with Afridis bowling plan. Afridi opened the bowling with Junaid Khan and Riaz, and Junaid Khan is bowling exceptionally well. And now he brings in hafeez, who has given only 1 run in 3 overs, and has even taken a wicket."

13.1

Saeed Ajmal to DM Bravo, no run, from over the wicket and this one turns big! It landed around leg and spun away sharply, Bravo let that one alone

13.2

Saeed Ajmal to DM Bravo, no run, supah! this one turns from the leg and is a lot closer to the off and Bravo pokes at it and is beaten.

Vincy: "why does this have to always be about, trindadian or jamaican, if a player is dropped he is dropped, anyone who is selected for the team can be selected for the days game, lets just remember its the west indies and not a player from a particular country, am really tired of this"

DM Bravo    15* (39b)      Saeed Ajmal    2-1-3-0

Waqar: "Lets take a moment and praise Mohammad Salman's work behind the stumps. He's so much better than K.Akmal, supporting the bowlers and best of all he hasn't looked like he will drop anything. I hope he stays in the Pakistan team."

Bravo has looked really scratchy against the spinners today

Drinks break

Qasim: "@Waqar please, are we gonna sit here and say that Salman's wicket keeping in his first ODI is the answer for akmals whole career, good and bad"

Dan: "West Indies batting coach should teach the batmen to score ones and twos, if they cann't hit the fours and sixes. Need to tell the youngsters that they can still win the matches without 4 or 6 but with singles and doubles. Showing the video of Mike Hussey would also help!" .. Or Chris Martin!

Robin: "Mr. Vincy need to re-read my comment. I`m just saying that the choices of players for a particular match needs to make sense. You pick a team not just throw in a player because you think he deserves to be in the team. You have to pick based on balance in the side. With Rampaul in the side the bowling attack becomes a good one; with Edwards in the side the bowling attack becomes deficient because Edwards is a batsman."

Another Vincy!: "Dropping Ravi was the obvious thing to do. Ravi is only medium fast. That is the same pace as Dwayne Bravo. Sammy is fast medium. So you have four men of pace on the team. You do not need a fifth. Including the OB bowler is the obvious thing to do. This nothing to do with Trini or any other territory. Let"s just be West Indies win or lose."

Arshad: "I am worried about this, I am concerned about that, you guys are so pesimistic, doom and gloom, think you know better?, well get to the nets and get in the team. Otherwise belt up and enjoy the excellent commentary! Arshad the Optimist!"

Raza: I agree with Waqar. And he is judging the spin & bounce of Saeed to perfection. Not a single spill so far!!"

Niala Baboolal: "It is so embarrassing and disappointing to see the empty stadiums here. It is a reflection of the lessons not learnt by the WICB that when Asian teams are touring, more fixtures must be given to Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana since they have a bigger Asian population and there are sold out crowds. Trinidad was given no games with Pakistan and just 3 limited overs games with India. Not nice!"

Saeed Ajmal to Simmons, OUT, Ump Malcolm, just like Ashoka earlier, takes a while before raising the finger. It was the doosra that landed around off and swerved away. Simmons leaned forward to defend and pushed inside the line. There must have been a thin edge as it went through to the delighted Salman. They appealed. They appealed again. The fatal finger shot up.
