Pakistan in West Indies Test Series - 2nd Test

West Indies v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 196 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100  | Overs 101-150

Game time. Taufeeq Umar and Mohammad Hafeez are Pakistan's openers. Kemar Roach has the new ball on a cloudy morning. Empty stands at Warner Park I'm afraid. But it will probably build up as the day progresses.

Three slips, a gully and a forward short leg in place.

0952 The pitch is a flat one, says Jeffrey Dujon on Ten Sports. Apparently will get easier to bat on as the match progresses. The boundaries are short here, very short. So expect runs. Then again, these teams are short of experienced Test match batsmen, so there's hope it won't be a high-scoring draw.

Misbah says Gul was left out because of his form. "Good change for Pakistan. Tanvir would have contributed well in 1st test," says Iftekhar. "It is time for Gul to be limited to one day shows, keeping in view his test record."

Sammy says he would have batted as well. He says Chanderpaul woke up with a sore shoulder.

Toss, 0938 Pakistan have won the toss and will bat, a positive start for their bid to level the series. The pitch at Warner Park has always been a batter-friendly venue. So no surprise.

The big team news from the West Indies camp is that Shiv Chanderpaul has a sore shoulder and is not playing. Marlon Samuels replaces him. Samuels had a epic struggle in the ODIs, he just couldn't score against spin. Big challenge ahead of him.

Brathwaite makes his debut as well, but we'll have to wait to see him bat.

Pakistan have left out Umar Gul, and are playing medium-pacer Tanvir Ahmed. Gul was wicketless in the previous Test, but didn't concede too many runs.

0915 Welcome to ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the second Test between West Indies and Pakistan in St. Kitts. The hosts lead the series 1-0 and this is the final match. Two-Test series are too short.

The toss is at 0930, Abhishek Purohit's preview has more information on the game.

The cliche is to never change a winning combination but West Indies simply had to. Devon Smith was hopeless against offspin and just had to go. So hopefully we won't see an offspinner opening the bowling in this Test! I'm quite looking forward to seeing opener Kraigg Brathwaite in action. He's 18 years old, from Barbados, and should make his debut today.

Does anyone remember the St. Kitts Test from last year? Nitin Sundar just asked me if I remembered it. I didn't. And for good reason. It was a horrific high-scoring draw against South Africa. Let's hope we have something good in store this year.

Roach to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, the first one is a fast full toss outside off stump, hits the grass and bounces through to Baugh

Roach to Taufeeq Umar, no run, the length was shorter this time and Umar sways out of the way, Baugh collects at chest height once again

2.5

Roach to Taufeeq Umar, 1 wide, that's supremely wide outside off, Umar chases in vain, bizarre attempt to play a wide ball

2.5

Roach to Taufeeq Umar, no run, good length, pitching leg and angling towards off, Umar presses forward and defends on the off side

2.6

Roach to Taufeeq Umar, 3 runs, a touch too full, Umar strides forward and drives through vacant mid-on, he didn't time it well and that's why Sarwan was able to chase it down from silly mid-on

4.1

Roach to Taufeeq Umar, no run, good length outside off, left alone by the batsman

4.2

Roach to Taufeeq Umar, no run, is that's Brathwaite's first touch on the ball? If so, it's a great one. Umar drove a full and wide ball powerfully towards cover, Brathwaite dives to his right and stops the boundary

4.3

Roach to Taufeeq Umar, 1 run, defended off the front foot on the off side

4.4

Roach to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, good length but again the line is not close enough to off stump for Hafeez to want to play, he lets it go

4.6

Roach to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, 89.5 mph, good length and closer to off stump this time, a testing delivery. Hafeez stays on the back foot and lets it go again

5.2

Rampaul to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, Hafeez moves forward to a good length ball outside off and angles it towards gully with an open face

Rampaul to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, defended solidly off the front foot towards the bowler

5.5

Rampaul to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, defended off the back foot this time, tight length and line from Rampaul

7.2

Rampaul to Taufeeq Umar, no run, Umar pushes forward to a length ball and gets an inside edge on to pad.

7.3

Rampaul to Taufeeq Umar, OUT, caught behind! Umar was too late in lifting his glove out of the way! The delivery was similar to the first one of the over, pitching in line with the stumps and slanting across the left-hander, very close to off. This one was quicker, bounced a bit more, and clipped the glove as Umar was trying to avoid it

8.1

Roach to Mohammad Hafeez, no run, short of a length outside off, played off the back foot towards gully

"Only a Pakistani opener can make batting look difficult on a track like this!" says Hamza. To be fair, they haven't made it look difficult. They have been patient and left a lot of the wide deliveries, and there's been a lot of them.

8.2

8.3

Roach to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, pushed off the front foot towards cover and they decide to take a quick single

Sammy to Azhar Ali, no run, Misbah was sauntering down the pitch after Ali defended the ball towards square leg. Ali did not respond. Misbah went scurrying back and was safe despite the direct hit

The players are taking their first drinks break. It's been a quiet first hour. Not many balls have beaten the bat, there have been few appeals, but Pakistan have still managed to lose three. Rampaul produced two good balls that dismissed the openers. The one that got Shafiq was an ordinary delivery. There has been pace and bounce for the quicks but nothing unusual, considering it is the first morning of a Test match.

Ashok: "@Shiraz - Hafeez comes into this series after a good outing in NZ where he scored a hundred too. I feel Pakistan should persist with him for longer because i think he is a natural opener and a neat and beautiful stroke-maker and a very useful spinner. Only if they stick with players and not keep shuffling people around will Pak find stable openers."

1119 Well that was quick. The rain has disappeared, the players have reappeared.

1109 The groundsmen have moved into position to bring on the covers. It's got very overcast. And here it comes. The rain. The square is now protected.

"Re Rampaul's action resembling Wasim's. Do we have the technology to see the slo mo of bowler's delivery stride in reverse image, i.e., change right handed to left handed and vice versa?" asks Malik. Interesting thought.

"Pakistan should seriously think about pushing Umar Akmal as an opener. He has an attacking instinct and has all the shots in his repertoire. Look at how Sehwag and Dilshan have been doing after becoming regular openers," says Ninad.

The rain isn't too bad and it might be clearing. They've only brought out one cover.

Rahul: "@Malik, That should be extremely easy to do. Just place a mirror in front of the TV, and watch the match on the mirror when Ravi bowls, and that will be all! Easy enough!"

Lunch, 1200 It's been West Indies' session. The pitch offered minimal assistance in terms of seam movement. There was no swing either, just a bit of bounce. Rampaul used it to pick up the openers and then dismissed Shafiq as well. There after, with three down for very little, Misbah and Ali just blocked and blocked. The result was a run-rate of less than 2 per over, but Pakistan won't mind that as long as these two build on their effort.

I'll be back at 1240 for the second session.
