Ramdin dropped from T20 squad

Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin continued to be left out of West Indies' limited-overs plans, as he was omitted from the 13-man T20 squad for the two-match series against Pakistan. The squad includes Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, who missed the previous T20 series against Zimbabwe in March due to rest and injury respectively. Besides Ramdin, the only other player dropped is the allrounder Andre Russell.

Ramdin was left out of the ODI squad in the ongoing five-match series against Pakistan, leaving the wicketkeeping duties to Johnson Charles. Ramdin has hit only one half-century since his recall to the West Indies one-day side in October 2011, and had been dropped in several recent matches, during the Champions Trophy and the home tri-series which also featured India and Sri Lanka. Kieron Pollard was retained despite his poor limited-overs form in 2013, making six ducks in ODIs.

The two matches are scheduled on July 27 and 28 in St Vincent. This will be West Indies' last set of international matches for the season before the inaugural Caribbean Premier League begins on July 30.

Bring on Dwayne Smith, everybody got their chance and W.I failed miserbly, give the young man his chance, W.I should have been white washed in the one day series, Russel should also be in the team. But who am I to make this statement, Gibson knows best.

For those who are wondering about Ramadin , he will keep wickets in the test team ,because he is a real keeper . At this point in his career ,Charles is not a keeper ,Simmonds is a better choice . A drop-catch or mis-stumping in test is a whole different ball game . It could cost the game ,or a double hundred .

This is just a quick note for the Dwayne Smith supporters. Smith has failed miserably in every international tournament from the 2007 WC to the recent T20 world cup in Sri Lanka. He started in Sri Lanka and ended on the bench. Do not look at the IPL record. Gayle, Bravo and Pollard were also successful but what did they do against PAK in the ODI? Should we really add Smith on his IPL record? Do you believe that he can handle the PAK spin? Have you seen him play left arm fast bowling? Think about where Smith gets 90% of his runs and could you then tell me if he will be playing with or against the direction of the ball? Maybe you are listening to too much SportsMax.

  • POSTED BY aclarity on | July 26, 2013, 1:50 GMT

My difference with the selectors is Daren Bravo. He is tending to power hitting rather than timing and this is not the right direction. T20 is for power hitters and swipers. I agree with them on leaving out Dwayne Smith because his record at the international level is butt poor. PAK bowlers are way above IPL and county cricket standards. Smith doesn't stand a chance against the PAK spinners and left hand pacers swiping against the direction of the ball at pace. Consequently, I will leave out Daren Bravo and Barnwell for the firs T20 and look to give Barnwell a run in the 2nd T20 for Gayle, Pollard or Dwayne Bravo.

Why on earth is DM. Bravo still playing T20 cricket when he can bearly find form in ODI. Go focus in the nets not T20 cricket! we have too many players for that format. You will always be compare with V.Kohli time to mature as a top WI batsman.

I agree with people asking for the inclusion of Dwayne Smith/Kevon Cooper. Smith especially had an awesome season in this year's IPL. I guess at the end of the day he's one of those "given too much chances" players so gets ignored regardless. Ramdin will become a memory as long as Charles/Simmons is doing well. Most full time wicket keepers in recent memory have been failures with the bat Ramdin, Baugh, Thomas...so glad not to see them involved. However, I'm wondering what Windies will do for the Test team. As far as making Ramdin captain...whomever's suggesting that must joking.

Dwayne Smith,Andre Russell,Kevon Cooper not in squad then seriously you don't have much of a chance against Pak bowling attack.

  • POSTED BY Hashimbaig on | July 25, 2013, 11:43 GMT

My squad for the two T20s:

West Indies: Chris gayle 1) Johnson Charles 2) Darren Bravo 3) Marlon Samuels 4) Lendl Simmons 5) Dwayne Bravo 6) Kieron Pollard 7) Darren Sammy 8) Tino Best 9) Sunil Narine 10) Samuel Badree 11)

Pakistan: Nasir Jamshed 1) Ahmed Shehzad 2) Mohammad Hafeez 3) Umar Akmal 4) Hammad azam 5) Shahid afridi 6) Wahab Riaz 7) Sohail Tanvir 8) Junaid Khan 9) Saeed Ajmal 10) Mohammad Irfan 11)

West Indies should enclude some experience like Ramdin, Roach and Pakistan need to include more experience batsman like Kamran Akmal, Abdul Razzaq and need the fast bowler Umar gul

  • POSTED BY Hashimbaig on | July 25, 2013, 11:05 GMT

chris gayle not perform but he need to open for the West indies in the T20 games because he is such a great T20 player

  • POSTED BY kaakal on | July 25, 2013, 10:50 GMT

Barnwell....definitely a T20 squad guy...... Darren Bravo u must b kidding.... How about Kevon cooper ??.. Is he not from Windies ???. Dwayne Smith was such a success for Mumbai Indians !!!!!... May b some sort of understanding.... try give the matches on a platter to Pakistan....

  • POSTED BY on | July 25, 2013, 6:45 GMT

Why exactly is andre russell out? he is the best all rounder available in their team

  • POSTED BY BRUTALANALYST on | July 25, 2013, 5:51 GMT

@enigma12345 Hope they go with that 11 switch Barnwell an Pollard bat position though.

  • POSTED BY on | July 25, 2013, 5:44 GMT

I think chris gayle under pressure since he is not scoring is international match this years. Pressure from public. plus, he is not ODI player, so he cant play slow. because Chris gayle is not slow player. He need to be relax n play freedom...I think he will make good run in t20 because in t20 he is king....

  • POSTED BY on | July 25, 2013, 5:33 GMT

This might sound harsh, but Gayle, based on current form, should have been rested in the ODIs and held for the T20. As a Guyanese I take umbrage with the selectors for using Barnwell as a facade of West Indian unity, for they hardly ever consider him for a position off the bench. No Dwayne Smith says it all about this befuddled camp.

  • POSTED BY on | July 25, 2013, 5:20 GMT

@ BRUTALANALYST. i agree with you about Barnwell like you say i dont think he will get a chance either.

  • POSTED BY enigma12345 on | July 25, 2013, 4:38 GMT

I think C.Barnwell is going to become a super star in International Cricket.

    My T20I Squad 1) C.Gayle 2) J.Charles 3) M.Samuels 4) L.Simmons 5) K.Pollard 6) D.Bravo Sr 7) C.Barnwell 8) D.Sammy 9) Samuel Badree 10) Sunil Naraine 11) S.Gabriel

    12) Dw.Smith 13) D.Johnson 14) A.Russell 15) F.Edwards

  • POSTED BY simonviller on | July 25, 2013, 3:21 GMT

Why are they leaving out Russell and Dwayne Smith on this t20 team and keeping Daren Bravo who is not a t20 player and Pollard who has failed so miserably ? Don't these people realise that this kind of Nationalistic politics affects even the selected players ? I am now covinced that it's not those with cricketing ability who get selected , but those who voice an opinion or something like that . " To those Whom It May Concern " . This West Indies Cricket Team does not belong to you ,to do with as you please , so open you eyes and be fair to all players or else WI will stay at the bottom of the table for ever .

    Talk now na, Ramdin. :)

  • POSTED BY BRUTALANALYST on | July 25, 2013, 0:41 GMT

I'd like to see Barnwell be given a shot I'm sure he could outplay both Bravo and Pollard on recent form and it may make them up their games. I doubt he will be picked ahead of Samuels or either Bravo however but it would be interesting if he was.

  • POSTED BY BRUTALANALYST on | July 25, 2013, 0:38 GMT

1.Gayle. 2.Simmons 3.Charles 4.DM Bravo 5.Samuels 6.Pollard 7.DJ Bravo 8.Sammy 9.Narine 10.Badree/Best (depending on pitch) 11.Gabriel. Charles Simmons Samuels must all play attacking game form ball 1 if Gayle is out send in Dm Bravo then he plays anchor roll around the big hitters.

  • POSTED BY espncricinfomobile on | July 24, 2013, 23:11 GMT

  • POSTED BY on | July 24, 2013, 22:48 GMT

  • POSTED BY Guytn_B on | July 24, 2013, 22:24 GMT

Ramdin as a temporary measure is a good drop, but let's see if the 'keeper-batsman' would continue to get runs. It's not easy doing both over a prolonged period

  • POSTED BY drtrinileggie on | July 24, 2013, 22:00 GMT

Joke!!!! Ramdin should be a future WI captain. Last time I checked nobody is consistently scoring runs. He bats at 7 or 8 with 5 or 6 overs to bat. HE IS THE BEST GLOVE MAN AS WELL AS CAPTAIN IN WI.

JUST LIKE GANGA BEFORE HIM BEST TACTICIANS OR HIGHEST IQs get shunted form leadership roles in WI or is it because of their roots. Bravo dunce, Sammy bigger dunce.

Final eleven (11) should be; Gayle, Charles, DM Bravo, Samuels, Simmons, DJ Bravo, Sammy, Pollard, Barnwell, Narine & Gabriel 12th man Best.

Until Best can control the pace it does make sense playing him. He is too expensive and can be easily edged out the park.

Overall, good selection, though surprised Russell was left out. Dropping Ramdin should no longer be a headline. He had his (plenty) chances and failed. Unless he does something extraordinary from now, he does not merit a place in the team in any format. I think Pak and WI are more evenly matched in T20s than in ODIs. Let's hope they produce some exciting stuff after the pedastrain ODIs.
