Dwayne Bravo pulls on one leg, West Indies v Pakistan, 2nd ODI, Providence, July 16, 2013

West Indies were unusually generous in the field but their batting showed signs of returning to form and Sunil Narine roared back to his best as they overcame Pakistan in Providence to level the series at one-each. West Indies themselves had been helped by a sloppy effort from Pakistan's bowlers, who conceded a whopping 38 extras in a low-scoring game.

Darren Bravo provided the stability at the top of the order and, though Pakistan's naggingly accurate trio of spinners choked the scoring in the middle overs, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard played some big shots towards the end of the innings to lift West Indies to a competitive 232 on a slow surface.

Pakistan's response was guided by Nasir Jamshed, who was more than compensated for being incorrectly adjudged lbw early in the first ODI. He was dropped three times during his half-century and Johnson Charles fluffed one stumping chance in an ungainly innings that also had several inside-edges and mishits. Jamshed took forever to get off the mark as Kemar Roach began with four maidens in a row, and was dropped on duck off his 21st delivery. You could feel the frustration and in the next over, he connected with a pick-up shot over midwicket for six to relieve some of the pressure.

His opening partner Ahmed Shehzad failed for the second consecutive match on his comeback. Mohammad Hafeez decided to hit his way back to form before unwisely thinking he could smash Narine over the man at long-on to fall for 20. Misbah-ul-Haq could have been run-out on 0, a score he remained on after facing 11 deliveries before breaking free with a typical loft over midwicket. The manner of his dismissal was totally out of character though, as he skipped beyond leg stump to make room and missed a straight one from Darren Sammy. Asad Shafiq was the next to go, slapping a long hop from Marlon Samuels to extra cover and Pakistan slid to 122 for 4.

Through it all, Jamshed persevered, putting aside the false strokes and strokes of fortune and, in the 35th over, he completed his fifty with a calculated chip over mid-on for four. With the flamboyant pair of Umar Akmal and Shahid Afridi to come, Jamshed didn't need to go for the big hits but when Pollard was given his first over in the batting Powerplay, Jamshed promptly holed out to wide long-on.

After the magical performance in his comeback match on Sunday, could Afridi deliver once more? He couldn't, as he fell for 5 after an innings in which he batted as though on hot coal. Every ball, he charged out of the crease or backed away from the stumps or shuffled across to the off; none of that was enough to counter the canny variations of Narine, who had him stumped to expose Pakistan's lengthy tail. Pakistan were left needing 82 off the final 10 overs, which proved too much for Akmal, who finished with a 46-ball 50 to reduce the margin of defeat.

Pakistan had actually been on top for much of the time that West Indies batted. When West Indies were 150 for 5 in the 39th over, with only the inconsistent allrounders to come, the only thing Pakistan had to complain about was some chewing gum which was stuck to the ball, but Pollard and Dwayne Bravo put on 70 brisk runs to lift West Indies to a respectable score.

Chris Gayle's miserable run continued as he fell to a swinging Mohammad Irfan delivery in the first over, before Darren Bravo and Charles showed some spine on either side of a 45-minute rain break. The more gentle medium-pace of Asad Ali didn't complement the threat provided by Irfan, as he routinely strayed with the new ball to allow Darren Bravo some confidence-building boundaries.

The art of taking singles continues to mystify Charles - he took only one single in the first ten overs - forcing him to go for the big hits often. It was one such attempt that ended his innings on 31, as he completely missed a legbreak from Afridi to be stumped yards out of his crease.

Darren Bravo and Marlon Samuels kept out Pakistan's dangerous spinners for a while, without scoring at much pace, but Saeed Ajmal removed them both - Darren Bravo with a doosra, and Samuels with one that didn't spin. It extended Samuels' wretched run in ODIs, and he walked off with a shrug acknowledging that Ajmal had got the better of him.

When the batting Powerplay only yielded 18 runs and produced two wickets, West Indies looked headed for a score around 200. Pollard and Dwayne Bravo haven't covered themselves in glory in recent times but they played the role they are well suited for. Pollard repeatedly powered the ball down the ground, and Dwayne Bravo regularly pinged the off-side boundaries in the quick-scoring partnership. The big push arrived when Wahab Riaz was taken for 18 in the 47th over, and West Indies ended up with a total that has usually proved a winning one at this ground.

@11PM Afridi , not Nasir or Akmal, was your best player on Tuesday. As a batsmen, none played decently. and as a bowler he had the best figures. When he came to bat, it was the powerplay, he was required to hit big shots. He is the most unselfish player on the team. All he cares about is winning the match. He didnt see any point in scoring a half-century in a losing proposition there, like Akmal. If Pakistan wanted to win that match they needed to up the run-rate there, and Afridi knows only one of doing that.

WI Selectors can not continue to accept 25-30 runs in extras every game. Bring back Ramdin and drop one of the star batsmen that are not performing. If they rest Gayle you can let Simmons open, if they drop Samuels, Simmons can still bat in his position. Charles batting will suffer because he can't do both bat & wicket keep at this level. Devon Smith needs to be changed as the reserve batsman and replace with Dwayne Smith. Bring back RAMDIN!

For some reason the captain and coach cannot drop Hafeez and Wahab Riaz. Take my word they wuill drop Asad Shafiq and bring in Umar Amin and probably Junaid Khan for Asad Ali. The sensible thing would be to drop Hafeez, Wahab Riaz and Asad Ali and bring in Umar Amin, Junaid Khan and A. Rahman.

FAR TOO MANY SPINNERS BY BRINGING IN A.REHMAN FOR W.RIAZ. I WOULD PREFER TO DROP HAFEEZ, SHAFIQ & W.RIAZ AND BRING IN HARIS SOHAIL, UMAR AMIN & JUNAID. The rest of the bowling is strong enough with Junaid, Irfan, Asad Ali, Afridi, Hafeez. . Umar Amin can fill in with a few overs if required.

Pakistan should use this team for the next match: 1.Nasir Jamshed, 2.Ahmed Shehzad, 3.Umar Akmal, 4.Harris Sohail, 5.Misbah-ul-haq, 6.Shahid Afridi, 7.Mohammad Hafeez, 8.Junaid Khan, 9.Saeed Ajmal, 10.Asad Ali, 11.Mohammad Irfan

1.Nasir Jamshed, 2.Ahmed Shehzad, 3.Misbah-ul-haq, 4.Harris Sohail, 5.Umar Akmal, 6.Mohammad Hafeez, 7.Shahid Afridi, 8.Saeed Ajmal, 9.Junaid Khan, 10.Asad Ali, 11.Mohammad Irfan.

I place Misbah at no.3 because he is a blocker, so if he comes early on and succeeds in blocking then atleast he can stop the fall of wickets from one end. Seccondly by comming in middile of the innings and blocking till the end Misbah messes up the batting completely. Umar Akmal is too immature to play at no.3.

Pakistan cricket has totally collapsed. They don't have the domestic structure which can bring genuine talent into the limelight. There is no home games taking place. And add to it the politics, which requires recommendations for a player to be selected.

The only reason why Pakistan is still being counted among the top teams is because of their bowling attack. Once the bowling starts to loose fuel, there will be nothing left in the team and Pakistan will have to join the Associates.

But still as a Pakistani supporter I am hoping for a revival in their cricket. The team for the 3rd ODI should be as following: Nasir Jamshed, Shahid Afridi, Umar Akmal, Misbah Ul Haq, Haris Sohail, Mohammed Hafeez, Umar Amin, Abdur Rehman, Asad Ali, Junaid Khan, Mohammed Irfan.

I am not against Riaz, or Ajmal, or Asad, or Shehzad, but Pakistan has no other options. The only thing they can do is use the best they have. They should rotate the options they have and try to bring out the best combination.

If Pakistan chase then they should try to score at least some runs every over. Pak had 7 maidens in their chase and they bowled only 1 maiden. Mohammad Hafeez is brought in at No.7 because of his recent performances. If he manages to score a 20 again then he will be strengthening the tail. Junaid Khan replaces Wahab cuz Wahab is the weakest link in the pace attack. Irfan and Junaid(not Asad) should open bowling cuz they have been successful doing it. Hopefully this team will be able to bat and bowl much better.

Although Pakistan lost it shouldn't be of much worry, I think Pak should use this and the next few series to find a young team that can consistently perform so they do good in the 2015 WC. Pakistan have to find replacements for 2 of their best yet oldest players on the team; Saeed Ajmal and Misbah-ul-haq. For Saeed Ajmal they can bring in the promising Raza Hassan and groom him to take over from where Ajmal left off. But they need another anchor to replace the almost 40 Misbah. If Asad Shafiq gets his batting right and shows some consistency then he can be the next Misbah or they can try Azhar Ali.

Pakistan should learn from the previous 2 matches. The Misbah-Afridi partnership shows that a defensive player on one end and an aggressive one on the other can be very successful and Pak should try to build as many of these partnerships as possible. As for this match they should learn not to give extras and not to rely on only one player (all Pak batsmen aren't consistent).

Posted by t20cric on (July 17, 2013, 17:04 GMT)

Pakistan need to regroup before the next odi. Umar Akmal was amazing though his batting was good but more importantly he had a terrific game behind the stumps with 2 catches,1 Stumping and 2 runouts. Nasir needs to play better, he wouldn't have made a 50 if WI feilding wasn't so bad. Hafeez got off to a good start then threw it away and he was the most expensive spinner. Ahmed got a good start a lost his wicket as well. Everyone in the top 6 got starts but only Umar Akmal played good. Afridi once again played well as a bowler but batted horribly when we really needed him. The bowlers need to make sure they don't give as much extras cuz we lost by the amount of extras conceded. The top order did better as we got past 100 without losing 3 wickets but ever since MIsbah got out the wickets came at regular intervals and we failed to cross 200. I think Harris Sohail should come in and Junaid should replace Wahab Riaz.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 16:24 GMT)

I think its the top order who gave away the match, irresponsible shots in fact horrible shots by so called hafeez, nasir, misbah. I dont know what they are afraid of cant find the gap on leg side to rotate strike. They cant seem to beat 2 fielders in the inner circle. It is such a pain to wath Pak batting. Umer played well. Misbah should be dropped and Afridi shd be the captain. Misbah is destroying the team whenever he will leave there will be no settled team. He just simply cannot build the team for the future. It is the responsibility of the captain. He has no clue what is he doing. Kinda selfish performance every time i see him batting.

Posted by dmqi on (July 17, 2013, 16:16 GMT)

@11MP. So, are you saying that Afridi is the only one who did not play well. What about Asad, Hafiz and the top 4 batsmen ( one got 4 lives). Is it Afridi's duty to score runs at #7? He at least got 2 wickets. Why should the top order retain positions, can you justify? You did not ask for there replacement. I am not a big Afidi fan now, rather a Razzaque supporter.

Posted by Sports4Youth on (July 17, 2013, 16:09 GMT)

@ 11MP : Yes, It is truie, please stop blamming Afridi. Because Afridi is a bowling all-rounder who bats at no.7. In the 2nd ODI when he came to the crease the match was already damaged and the required rate was at about 9 runs per over. Where was the time for him to settle down?. He had to swing from his hips so that Pakistan could stand any chance. The game was spoilt by the specialist batsmen who wasted a lot of deliveries and then threw their wickets after settling.

As far as the bowling is concerned even in the 2nd ODI Afridi was by far the best Pakistani bowler, 29/2 in 10 overs. This bowling all-rounder bowled better than all the bowlers put together, even specialists. BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU CANT SEE THAT.

And compare his performance to Hafeez who is supposed to be a batting all-rounder.

Posted by StatisticsRocks on (July 17, 2013, 16:05 GMT)

Well Afridi grounded after one match, but he contributes with the ball as well. Hence it makes sense to keep him in the side. If we scores like he did in the first match, it's a bonus. As a neutral fan I cannot understand why Junaid Khan is warming the bench. PAK needs batsmen very badly. Drop Hafeez as he has lost form with both the bat and the ball.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 15:39 GMT)

Pakistan should play a medium pace all rounder at 7 and if they want to stick with afridi then he should bat at 8.Hammad Azam is the best option at this time.Hafeez should open and one (Nasir or Ahmed) should come at 3.Asad should be dropped and haris Sohail should play.Playing XI should be:Hafeez,Nasir,Ahmed,Haris,Misbah,Umar,Hammad,Afridi,Ajmal,Junaid,Irfan

Posted by 11MP on (July 17, 2013, 15:04 GMT)

A lot of people say "Don't blame Afridi", why not? Please tell me why not? I have been seeing Afridi playing cricket since 90's but he has not yet matured enough, sure he plays one or two good games but 98% times he fails with the bat. When will Afridi start taking responsibilities? Afridi is senior player in the team; he needs to act and play likes a senior player in the team. I would say PAK needs to play with SEVEN batsman until Top order batsman's gain some valuable experience and confidence until then let part-timer do 5th bowler job.

Posted by Ray24 on (July 17, 2013, 14:50 GMT)

Just drop Asad Ali and bring in Junaid, if he is not injured. Asad Ali is on the slower side and can't bowl decent lengths, so no use of keeping him in. Misbah should rotate the strike, 17 off 41 balls, if he had run a ball this match was so much more close and Pakistan would've easily won. He should bat at 5 with Asad Shafiq at 4. Please let him develop. Rest of the team should play the full tour for a change and a decent run to all players.

Posted by Sports4Youth on (July 17, 2013, 13:54 GMT)

Someone please tell Misbah that the Pakistan balling is strong enough and that they do not need SIX bowlers. He needs to understand that it is their batting that needs to be supported by an extra batsman. SO PLEASE GET RID OF ONE BOWLER (W.RIAZ) AND GET HARIS SOHAIL IN.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 13:52 GMT)

scores may not matter much but its the way they play and get out is poor from pakistan. yes agree with many comments that afridi cant bail them out every match but his stay at crease was perfectly described in the article " as if he is on hot coal" . the balls he faced before he got out tells the story. nasir got 4 chances but still couldnt do it. hafeez simply terrible as always. they should get in haris for asad . what wrong he can do than whats happening.

Posted by Shantul on (July 17, 2013, 13:51 GMT)

I believe Pak should keep the same team for next game atleast... give the lads another chance. if they are dropped after 1 or two games it does not do any justice to their game or to the cause for Pak cricket.. My team would be same, if players fail then we can bring in replacements, like Junaid , Haris, U. Amin, .. Asad just got a chance he cannot b dropped after 2 games. this is rediciilous!! one more game to do justice!

Posted by ReverseSweepIndia on (July 17, 2013, 13:38 GMT)

I think both teams can learn a bit from Indian batsmen about how to rotate strike. There is no dearth of big hitters in both sides (WI & Pak), but the problem is there are way too many dot balls. On good tracks, whether flat or fast (where ball comes on bat), they can score, but will always find it difficult to score on any challenging wicket. I also wish our bowlers could learn from Pak how to bowl yorkers.

Posted by Major85D on (July 17, 2013, 13:34 GMT)

Believe me: as long as coach whatmore and captain tuk tuk misbah are still in the team, pakistan will never perform well. this is the worst batting in cricket history, because of the tactic of whatmore and misbah. and why in the hell is shafiq still playing?? replace him by haris sohail!!! but first of all: drop whatmore and misbah, or pakistan will sink like titanic.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 13:30 GMT)

I have always said that anytime the wicket has any sort of life in it then C.Gayle struggles. Hopefully here in St.lucia the pitch will be tailor made for him. Otherwise it going to be a dim series for him. I have looked at him over the last couple of matches/series(bang, Aus, CT, tri-series and now pak) and he seems to be playing with a slanted bat(45 degree angle) and doesn't seem to know which balls to leave and which ones to play at. Probably in his last 20 dismissals half have been behind the wicket: caught behind, gully. The balls getting him out are not hitting the stumps. Tell CG to get back to playing the ball straight(work at his technique in the nets ie straight bat) and leave some outside the off. Length ball outside off(NB pitch has to offer something) and the nick will come. We want him to do well as WIndians but how many more chances do we give him? and BTW PAK was the team that DIDNT want to play the tests, thats why the two tests were scrapped.

Posted by Hassan_U on (July 17, 2013, 13:15 GMT)

Bhavesh Buch@ you hit the nail on its head.....I been saying this too. The guy is in the dream land. Hafeez has to be dropped. He has been hiding behind his bowling for far too long.

Posted by kitten on (July 17, 2013, 12:52 GMT)

I agree with Mohammed Iftekhar's comments. Afridi cannot be blamed for this defeat. He still performed well with the ball. The top order has failed time and again, so it would be an idea to let Afridi open....he certainly can't do any worse than the current openers. And if he clicked, he would give the team a good start and in no time at all. In this last game, the openers went into their shell, and at one time were even at a point when their overs they faced were more than the runs they scored! It is time a complete overhaul of their batting lineup is done. Afridi and Jamshed or even Hafeez. Hafeez has not lit up the stadium with his batting at #3, so in all fairness let him open again, where he has had a fair bit of success in the past. Wake up Pakistan, before it is too late.

Why there was no DRS in placed???

Posted by Stark62 on (July 17, 2013, 12:07 GMT)

Why is Umar Akmal languishing at no. 6?

He is a far superior batsman, compared with Hafeez and Misbah in limited overs cricket.

See, this is the reason why there are a lot of Misbah critics in Pak because he doesn't want to promote youth and has turned the team into tuk's, tuk's like himself (except Afridi and Umar).

I remember, when Nasir played his first few games, he was fearless and aggressive but that instinct seems to have gone astray and the only culprit behind Nasir's circumspect batting of late, is solely the fault of Misbah.

Lastly, why isn't Pak's second best batsman (Harris Sohail) in FC cricket being introduced? Is Misbah afraid of losing his spot?

Hopefully, the team in the future would look something like this: Naisr (original self), Shezhad, Harris, Umar (wkt), Fawad (100x better than Misbah), Maqsood/Hafeez, Afridi (captain to bring back the fearlessness), Anwar Ali/Hammad, Junaid, Ajmal and Irfan.

Posted by mgr125128 on (July 17, 2013, 11:52 GMT)

Afridi performance quota for 2013 is over. Hafeez is as good as not being there. So effectively Pakistan is 2 down before first ball is bowled. Gayle and Pollard are due for big one and lets hope they click in 3rd ODI and 4th ODI of series

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 11:35 GMT)

Issue is that Hafeez already has started dreaming of being ODI skipper,,, he thinks he can not be replaced,, and Pak is not taking tough steps,,, Misbah may be very slow,, but he has no choice to be slow in batting as he always comes in crisis situation,,,,,, Afridi can afford to hit blindly as he has nothing to lose,,,,,

Posted by Shahzadhussan on (July 17, 2013, 11:32 GMT)

What about Lala as a captain of Pakistan team till 2015 WC after this series, he has very positive approach otherwise Saeed Ajmal or Umar Akmal. Hafeez for sure not

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 11:16 GMT)

i feel hafeez should open with Jamshed as Hafeez has done no good at all at No3. They need to include Harris sohail and Umar amin in the batting line up otherwise same hiccups in the batting lineup will continue.Lastly Wahab riaz and Asad Ali should be dropped and Junaid should be in the playing eleven.

Posted by Christy1268 on (July 17, 2013, 11:11 GMT)

Mr Afridi is spoiling the future of Pak Cricket - he retires, come bak, hits a few big shots, then goes quiet, is dropped, picked-up again, hits a 50, picks a few wickets, making Pak think that their Star all rounder is back - only to fail in the rest of that series. Seriously, Pak Cricket shoud think far and drop him for good and use these chances to blood talented youngsters. Afridi is not going to get any younger and his once-in-10-match knock only means he is going to fail in the next 9 matches....

Misbah plays like a cricket 2007 player his shots always goto the fielder i dont know what haas happened to shehzad and jamshed they were such attacking players but now we can all see what has happened to them. The players should be given the freedom to play strokes.

Don't blame Afridi he did good with bowling .while afridi is playing always pressure on him due to top order failed better to promote afridi opener or 2 spot . What about Misbha,Hafiz Shafiq kick out them .except afridi ,umer akmal, ajmal and irfan no one good in Pakistan team . Every time you people blame afridi afridi afridi .Afridi comes on crease always on high pressure . Misbha should learn from Dhoni and Inzmam how to use their players .

We should have batted first another wrong decision by Misbah. Second of all Asad Ali is a good prospect (impressed with the way he bowled yorkers at the death) but he needs to be replaced by Junaid for the next match.

Misbah needs to let the batsman play their natrual game. Ever since he dropped Jamshed in South africa for Farhat, Jamshed has not been the same and is trying to survive in the team. Hafeez should bat at 6 but he is to selfish to do so. Umar Akmal needs to bat at three because he will rotate strike and hit boundaries at will. Haris Sohail needs to replace Asad Shafiq (good test player but rubbish odi player).

Ideal 11 should be

Nasir jamshed Ahmed shehzad Umar akmal Misbah ul haq Haris sohail Mohammad hafeez Shahid afridi Wahab riaz Junaid khan Saeed ajmal Mohammad irfan

And TUK TUK let the batsman play their NATURAL GAME!!!!!!!!

Simmons can also be used as a makeshift keeper if it is that the selectors do not want to upset the balance of the team. However it might be more sensible to bring in a specialist. The problem will then be-who to omit? Either Simmons or Pollard.Simmons ought to be given an extended run though.Simmons is also a more than useful change bowler. Pollard is much to inconsistent in this format and should be kept for the Twenty 20 format. Go Windies!

hafeez was telling jamshed to watch sunil narines hand as he was not picking the varations i wonder what hafeez was watching when he got out he was probably watching the dressing room.

Congrates WI for improved performance though still need improvement like in fielding, and Gayle. Problem with Pakistan batting is, most of these people lack the capability of taking singles which is crucial to keep the run rate stable. Misbah is the biggest culprit who stays on the wicket for nothing but help opposite team by increasing the asking run-rate and putting the pressure on other batsmen to come. Secondly, he has one universal strategy for every single match, he lacks ability to plan according to situation, wicket, opposition etc. In conclusion, Pakistan batting can not improve unless this Mr Tuck Tuck is discarded who have big negative influence on the team

Posted by mzamost on (July 17, 2013, 10:19 GMT)

yeah congratz to da windiez bt pkstan wil eventually clinch dis series

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 10:14 GMT)

shoaib maqsood and haris sohail are the best 2 current batsmen in pakistan why they cnt get in to the starting 11 god knows.drop hafeez bring in haris sohail asad is crap aswell you need agressive players for limited overs cricket junaid should be in place of wahab pak batting line up is crap.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 10:09 GMT)

Firstly Mr. Tuk Tuk is the most boring and defensive captain Pakistan had.I don,t y he is playin, he should hang his boots and play only Tests.Secondly, pak should bat first as they have the weakest batting among all test playing nations. They should play H.Sohail and U.Amin for Hafeez and Shafiq, Asad Ali should be replaced by J.Khan.

Posted by malepas on (July 17, 2013, 10:05 GMT)

Bad decision to bat first,Hafeez has now over-stretched his place in the team and should now be dropped,Asad should bat at no3 and Umar at no5,team management should ask the openers to play with freedom as blocking is not their game, why on earth they are benching Junaid is beyond me, he is our best bowler, they should know now that Wahab is not an all rounder, Hammad should've been playing at no-8 as we don't need 6 specialist bowlers. Selectors needs to work on the mental attitude of this team when they chasing, there seems to be a mental block in the team when they chase.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 9:42 GMT)

relief after this series for pak batsman as they will be playing SA in UAE where the ball does not swings at all. hafeez will be the rockstar again and naseer jamshed the destroyer :). but honestly its more about the mental strength than the technique, couple of aggressive strokes.. the bowler comes under pressure and ball automatically stops swinging. passive approach and lack of common sense is whats haunting pak batsman and IMO hafeez should bat at 7

Posted by delboy on (July 17, 2013, 9:33 GMT)

I observe an element of over cautiousness in some players. They have listened and taken on board criticism constructive or otherwise; in some cases to the extent where they appear now to make the wrong choices. Gayle has reigned himself in, Marlon is too tense, Narine's grip and release changed to the extent where it started to bother him. I hope the win will release some of the tension and allow the team to fully exploit their ability. It might not be a bad idea to experiment with resting Gayle until the T20s, promote Simmons to open with Charles and bring in Deonarin or Fudadin.

Until n unless our batsmen start playing at strike rate of 80+ ,we will always struggle in chasing any total above 200.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 9:01 GMT)

Being an Indian cricket team fan, loving Pakistan team comes natural except when they play against india of course!! What is happening to pak cricket? their naturally talented players are all things of past now. Bowling has been their strength and it is still heavy but batting is going down and down. Sorry but misbah is not the one for 2015,bring some batsmen not hitters... Moin saab

dear iccm plz dont give us 200+ score to chase our captain cant take singles and our middle order cant think beyond securing their position in the next match our openers are so much frieghtened that they cant play stroke till the end of power play hafeez was never a technically sound batsmen and we need to play all our matches in subcontinent to keep him fit into the team asad is not a odi player IM sorry. he cannot run fast, cant clear the boundry. we cannot change afridis mindset, but getting rid of him means we can try any proper batsman or youngster...i know its also very difficult as our selectors and board cant face publiuc pressure. we have to play with players with 24,27,29 runs per innings avg in these days which is a shame. last but not the least wahab riaz and asad ali playing and junaid is on the bench shows our lack or direction in selection and overall approach to game Pakistan isnt a competitive team, they are just a team who can play...thats it

Posted by Hassan_U on (July 17, 2013, 8:16 GMT)

As long as you have players like Mr Hafeez who in over 110 ODI has a batting average of below 30 and same now goes with Asad Shafiq too over 40 ODI but average of 30ish.

Hafeez & Shafiq need to be dropped. Replace them with Harris Sohail and Umar Amin.

How long will Hafeez will hide behind his bowling......and he is in dream land of being next ODI captain.

When WI crossed 200 the wrting was very much on the wall as current Pak team is not capable of chasing this much with any authority. Dropping players should not be considered all doom gloom for so called established players. It helps them recover and find their feet again away from glare of international crciket and this provides a golden oppurtunity for wanna be palyers waiting in the wings to showcase their talents.

pakistan cant chase total of +225..... very simple

Posted by DanD-Dan on (July 17, 2013, 7:34 GMT)

What happened to Roach? After starting off with four straight maidens, then picking up an early wicket, why did he only bowl 6 overs?

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 7:34 GMT)

The Pakistani batting line-up has failed again and what disappoints me is that easy targets like 220 and 230 are becoming difficult ones for us. I'm also not impressed with the batting line-up. I think it's time to include Haaris Sohail in the team. I haven't seen him bat, but he's a lefty and his first class stats are above average which makes him a good choice for a No 4 batsman. Misbah should bat at 3 as there is no point of him batting at 4 or 5. Umar Akmal was brilliant and sensible in the last match as he was rotating the strike regularly and was scoring that odd boundary which i think is what a good middle order batsman does, so he should bat at 5. Hafeez shouldn't be dropped, he's a good cricketer and he was batting really well, but not like a No. 3 batsman, he should bat at 6. Other then that, Pakistan should go with a different approach while chasing, as this slow one is neither exciting for the viewers, nor is it working for them.

Well played windies....but I am really dissapointed by the performance of gayle.....why the big man is not firing at all?Whats the problem...I just cant understand....and where is tino??why he is not in the team??Is he injured??I just love the way he ball.....terrific aggression.....Its the time for windies to give a strong answer to their crictics who says that windies can perform only in T20s......Come on windies.....give your best shot and win this series for your fans.......Best of luck....

I am An Indian....I Like one PAK player very much,He was Basith Ali...Where is he now? He should be the PAK Coach...He is having the right attittude..Ashar Ali is better player than Shefiq and he should be the permanant number 3 He is having the techniqe.

Very disappointed TEAM PAKISTAN lost second ODI but I suppose it was inevitable given selectors persistent with including average batsmen such as Hafeez and Shafiq in the ODI squad. Both these two now should be dropped permanently. It came as no surprise that Afridi performed irresponsibly with the bat. This should be his last opportunity to show that he is a genuine all rounder otherwise he too should be shown the door. Misbah's logic also surprised me, having won the toss he should have batted and put up a score as West Indies are not good at chasing. Furthermore, there were too many extras given. For the 3rd ODI my XI would be: 1. Jamshed, 2. Shehzad, 3. Haris, 4. Akmal, 5. Misbah, 6. Amin, 7. Afridi, 8. Wahab, 9. Ajmal, 10. Junaid, 11. Irfan. If required Amin could be the 6th bowler. I would love to include Mohammed Rizwan in the XI but I am finding it difficult as it would effect the balance of the side.

Posted by xylofon on (July 17, 2013, 7:04 GMT)

1, afridi did really well with the bowling once again, really good figures and bowled all 10 overs. Batting could have been better but the match needed a bit of risk taking, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. im only angry when he does it when its NOT needed, just like umar akmal

2, If Asad And Misbah are to play ODI they MUST open. Even if it costs us the first powerplay. Asad REALLY needs time to get into the match and taking him in when aggression is needed puts pressure on him and thens hes out, so not his fault entirely

3, Hafeez must be replaced by Sohail NOW, no need for hafez as a spinner, bat or go please

4, said it before and will say it again: wheres the new players PCB? India have done well to groom new players and really left out the old ones.

5, I cant believe pakistan dont play windies more often, they have a LOT in commons and both need same training

Congrats to West Indies. by the way, and very nice reaction from Samuels when he got out ; )

Posted by USAMAAJMAL678 on (July 17, 2013, 6:48 GMT)

why on earth is asad shafiq being played regularly in the odi team...he has an average of 28 and a strike rate of 69 in bout 43 matches for pakistan...if u r so poor in around 50 matches it shows u are not good enough...only coz the biased pakistani channel geo super wants karachi based players in the team they keep backing asad shafiq and players like umer main are spoken against...umer amin played brilliantly against india with the tailenders and he is dropped in the next game...umer amin should be given a chance instead of asad shafiq....

I am an India, but i do love pak cricket also,it's so sad to see pak in this condition, pak always produce goodbats men like miandad, anwar, inzi, mohammed yousuf etc..but these team playing with negative approach, because of Misbah or coach I don't Know, misbah is a good batsmen with good temprament but his captaincy sometimes it is very defensive,I think afridi is the best person to lead pak,you have to play without fear,Umar Akmal is the only batsmen kind like that, his talent is wasted, why is at No:6 he should be at No:3 he is a prodigial batsmen, look at our team, virat is no:3 look what is his position now, also hafeez should be at No:6,and wahab replace with some young alrounder as per above comments I think it is Hammad Azam, why junaid is not in playing eleven,he is a really talent, pak selectors should be open your eyes

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 6:36 GMT)

You can't blame Afridi as he did his job with the bowl. 10 overs, 2 wickets and only 29 runs. He was again the pick of the bowlers then why to drop him. What the others did?

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 6:20 GMT)

Bring in Haris Sohail in place of Hafeez. Hafeez shud get a break. Also being in Rehman & Junaid replacing Asad & Wahab. Since Azhar Ali is not in the squad, he could have been a better option to stop this upper order collapse.

Posted by warneneverchuck on (July 17, 2013, 6:17 GMT)

I would drop afridi for at least 8 matches now and then include in the team as he scores runs once in 10 matches

Posted by Fast_Track_Bully on (July 17, 2013, 6:11 GMT)

As expected, Afridi failed in one more game. He will come up with something special after 10 matches and will run on that. As an experienced player, he should have take responsibility to score that runs (70 odd, i think) or make it close.

Posted by aminur3095 on (July 17, 2013, 6:09 GMT)

Believe me, Hafeez is not the no-3 for a country like Pakistan. He was never a class act. He is not that good in technique to hold the no-3 position. Sometimes you need to take bold decisions for the welfare of the whole team. Replace him by Umar Amin/Fawad Alam/Haris Shoail, though this is not the perfect time to drop Hafeez or put him down the order at no-5 or no-6 as an all-rounder and install ASAD SHAFIQ as the no-3 . We all should keep in mind that Asad has a test hundred on the south African soil against the top quality bowling. My eleven: 1. Nasir 2. Shehzad 3. Asad 4.Misbah 5. Umar Akmal 6. Hafeez 7. Afridi 8. Ajmal 9,10,11. (3 quicks ) but what I want to remind the pakistan think tank that you can't rely on Wahab Riaz often.

Posted by ft001 on (July 17, 2013, 6:05 GMT)

I would sugest the sollowing line up for the next match

1. Nasir Jamshed 2. Ahmad Shehzad 3. Haris Sohail 4. U.Akmal 5. Misbah 6. U.Amin 7. Afridi / M. Hafeez (maybe hafeez would be a better choice as atleast he scores some runs 8. S. Ajmal 9. J.Khan 10. M. Irfan 11. Asad Ali

its not wahab. over. game affected. it was nt there in said series where he had given many runs in a over. gulf or junaid should replace him. he is unlucky like farhat. who is better at no 3 or match winner shoaib mallik or professor hafez. mallik has good record at 3. hamad azam n likes r needed for death overs. middle order paradise was inzy-yousuf-younus so now make it misbah -umar-anyone instead of aware safiq. he is nt fit to odi. misbah can guide umar n also easily rotate strike when he is tuktuking n no need to pressure shot while umar on next side.

Can Pakistan ever be able to chase down a target of 200+ ???? I don't see that happening in near future because of the simple fact that they play ODIs with a test cricket approach minus requisite technique.Well WI is too a similar kind of team, but they take their chances, they live by the sword and die by the sword. WI know they had a poor technique to rely on, so they take their chances and score runs and sometime it works well for them. But same can't be said for Pakistan, they never take any initiative to score in Powerplay overs, also leave it too late to negotiate the ever increasing required rate, and ultimately end up losing the match with around 50 runs. Pakistan should reconsider the way they are playing these days, this strategy of chasing target is taking them nowhere.

Posted by Shahbazchaudhary on (July 17, 2013, 5:29 GMT)

MR. Tuk Tuk, please allow the team to play their natural game, You are master of tuk tuk but rest of team is not, that s why they dint performed well, & i pray that this will be your last series as captain, selectors should think about again and bring new captain who have possitive approch, not like misbah.

Posted by Siva_Bala75 on (July 17, 2013, 5:22 GMT)

Don't drop Hafeez. He is still a top 5 ODI bowler in the world. All the other teams will love to have Hafeez in their XI. Treat him as a bowler and drop one regular bowler (either Ajmal or one pacer) and replace him with Haris Sohail.

Posted by RaadQ on (July 17, 2013, 5:08 GMT)

This innings again shows why Umar Akmal needs to be promoted up the order and Hafeez demoted down. Even without team changes, I would prefer Pakistan line up being Jamshed, Shehzad, Asad Shafiq, Umar Akmal, Misbah, Hafeez, Afridi... This will give Umar Akmal more balls + better batsmen to play with, he always ends up with useless tailenders. It will give Hafeez an old ball to face so his technique won't be tested, since he doesn't have any. Asad Shafiq is like Misbah, a tuk tuk, so he can come in a #3 and help the ball get old. In the bowling department, rotate Riaz out of the series, so we have Junaid, Irfan and Asad Ali. You cannot drop Asad Ali after just 2 matches as it won't be fair for a new comer. He also provides a nice LH/RH balance which is not available with the 3 left handers.

If u dont persist, you will perish. Give gud players like asad shafiq, junaid khan... some time to settle. India did persist with ppl like Dravid,Ganguly,Raina, Jadeja and Bhaji, who had failures at the beginning of their career.

Pakistan miss the trick here way Pakistan go with Hafeez his crunt from is not good of this time simple is simple hafeez should be out form team in next ODIs in this series his performis is very low of his stander Haris Sohail & Umer Ameen Should be play in the place of hafeez and Asad Shafiq

pakistan poor bating line up

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 4:11 GMT)

If we see Asad shafiq innings from past 2 matches he is not contributing any runs for the team ,it is totally waste taking him in the team. Instead of that give one chance to new comers like Haris sohail may be he will be the surprise package for the Team. And replace Junaid khan in the place of Asad Ali.

Posted by ARJa on (July 17, 2013, 4:03 GMT)

The two teams are very similar except that Pakistan bowling attack is slightly better. They both have weak openers who could hit or miss any day. They both have a middle order that takes an eternity to get going, but if they do, it would be full of fireworks. The main difference is that Windies only have 3 wicket taking bowlers where as Pakistan could have 4 to 5 wicket takes. Both teams have make-shift keepers, but Umar Akmal seems to have keeping in his blood and he is more than adequate for the job. Both teams are starved for test cricket because one doesn't want to play test matches (WI) and the other doesn't seem to have the power to negotiate any tournament. Just feel that at the end of the tournament, we would have that empty feeling once again as to what was the purpose of the series at all. Another inconsistent comeback of Afridi and the constent mental battle of players with talent and lack of concentration is not much to party about.

Posted by asim229 on (July 17, 2013, 3:07 GMT)

People who think Afridi was a complete failure in second match seems to forget that he bowled magnificiently with figures 10 overs 28 runs and took two vital wickets. The top five batsmen should take the responsibilty to win matches for team and dont rely on lower order batsmen plus players should play their natural game bcse it is of no use playing so defensively.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 2:20 GMT)

Samuels should be axed... He isn't scoring and building pressure on others by not rotating... He should be removed and a new guy should be groomed

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 2:18 GMT)

Why would pakistan bowl first after winning the toss. They know that they find it difficult to chase 150+. Our openers lose wickets quickly, then misbah comes and he bats so slow that makes it difficult for the coming players to catchup with the run rate.

Posted by vswami on (July 17, 2013, 2:02 GMT)

Boom Boom has done enough for the next 15 games. He will ride three series on his last match's performance.

Posted by BRUTALANALYST on (July 17, 2013, 2:01 GMT)

Darren Bravo batted beautifully but again got out as soon as made 50 to be fair it was a beautiful doosra form Ajmal I thought D J Bravo and Pollard left it a little late to start accelerating but was ok in the end.Marlon Samuels continues to look like a a tailender he seems to have 2 modes (block or beast mode) i much prefer beast mode like in Champs Trophy v S.A I'd rather he'd played like that and got out than what we have seen lately.Gayle yet again out first over caught behind ! If Gayle can't learn or mentally adapt to opening why not let someone else open and use him as a finisher when ball won't swing so much look how often he gets out first 5 overs . . .

Posted by Siva_Bala75 on (July 17, 2013, 1:54 GMT)

Pakistan's batting is so consistently bad and weak, I am surprised why they still play with 6 bowlers, rather play with 8 batsmen ( 6 plus 2 allrounders). When things (batting) fail so regularly, the expert advise is to over-correct. In Pakistan's case they need not even over correct because their bowlers are so good, five is enough. Pakistan should drop either Ajmal or Asad Ali and select Haris Sohail. I know people will say 'quantity vs quality', etc. but then you guys need (a) insurance, (b) find out which of these batsmen will be long term prospects and (c) some batsmen can play freely when you have that extra batsman. This strategy can be tweaked or changed ONLY when your bowling fails; it doesn't look like that will happen.

Posted by BravoBravo on (July 17, 2013, 1:37 GMT)

Winning toss may be important. However, its not true that solely on the basis of winning toss, a team wins. A good team wins whether they win the toss or not, they bat first or not. WI played better today and they won. Only one or 2 player of any team need to perform to win ODI. Today Narine and Bravo bros performed for WI, and WI won. Previously Afridi and Misbah performed, and PAK won. Lastly, congrats to WI.

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 1:24 GMT)

Being a pakistani supporter, im not surprised at all. Batting has been a serious concern ever since 2013 started, we dont even deserve to play teams like WI, performed well in 1st ODI and now it will be another 4/5 months wait to see some good flow of runs from our batsmen. time for Hafeez to go, Asad shafiq to go and new blood has to be injecred in, lets be honest its going to take its time but atleast exposure needs to be given to players like Umer Amin who showed us his temperament in Champions trophy when wickets kept on falling on the other end. I think ICC should introduce world cup qualifiers jus like in hockey, i wont be suprised if Pak. team fails to perform and cant even make it to the world cup. Sad days for Pakistan cricket..Hammad Azam, Umer Amin, Haris Sohail have to be brought in. we cant afford players like Nasir Jamshed who was given 3 drop chances and still only managed 54..shame on team selection and players who dont accept the fact that they need a break.

Posted by psu19976 on (July 17, 2013, 1:12 GMT)

pak should play 6 specialist batsmen. Hafeez and Afridi should play as specialist bowlers.

Posted by mshyder on (July 17, 2013, 1:12 GMT)

The Pakistan Captain and Coach are very unimaginative when selecting the paying XI. Selection is not based on this tour's performances only but it is the continuation of CT. On that basis common sense requires that Asad Shafiq, Wahab and Asad Ali should have been dropped. Instead Haris Sohail, Umar Amin and Junaid Khan should have been in the side. Whats holding these changes is not understandable. How come Junaid Khan who was called the pace spear head few weeks ago cannot find a place in the side and is superseded by non performers like wahab and asad ali ?

Posted by merchantcricket on (July 17, 2013, 1:11 GMT)

Knowing Pakistan is not good at chasing targets, it was a big mistake to bowl first. Particularly, when top order is not performing. At this stage Hafeez cannot be ignored because of the his blowing consistency (not taking wickets but very economical), but I agree that long term solution needs to be devised. For the next match, I would bring back Junaid for Wahab and Haris Sohail (1st class average 52 and 11 centuries) for Asad Shafiq.

Posted by Hira1 on (July 17, 2013, 0:59 GMT)

since whatmore join as a coach Pak team is getting worse day by day, there is hardly any improvement in batting and overall team is just playing negative cricket. I think its high time that he should be sacked before Pak team become worse than bangladesh or zimbabwe

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 0:38 GMT)

Awww... Always be difficult to chase for Pakistan. Its time to give rest to Hafeez in ODI's and test for untill he prove himself in domestic for return in Pak team. Pak dnt need him now because he is playing as fifth bowler now Afridi will be able to play that role for next few tours in ODI's. Asad also restrict to Tests only because constantly failing to score. In this series we have replacement for him in the shape Haris Sohail and he need to be consider for next 3 remaining matches of the series. After that series bring back Younus Bcz Pak team need him until Pak will get his replacement.. Nasir always plays for ownself he never played for team if his this attitude continue then Moin Khan has to take some action against him.. I hope Mr Moin take strict action against all those players who are underperforming from last few series especially Hafeez and Shafiq in ODI's. Thanks hope soon we will say Bye bye to Mr Professor bcz we fed up with your performance and your politics in team

WI have a selection Dilemma ! ..

Charles has been an excellent new batsman ...

So why not let him keep ? Well since he has started keeping, his run production has gone down drastically ...

Now Charles is no different in the batting department, to Baugh or Rhamdin ..... added to the fact that he is actually a horrible keeper and is leaking runs and turning bouncers into 4 byes and normal wides from Roach into 4's .... Stuff that Rhamdin would normally save. Baugh is a bit short and is not as good at pulling in wides as RHamdin, but Baugh is still much better than Charles ....

So what does the WI selectors do ?

Bringing back a keeper should mean that Charles would return to his run scoring ways .......

but who should they drop ?

Gayle ?

yes ? Gayle ?

Posted by   on (July 17, 2013, 0:26 GMT)

very good game, from this Pakistan know that they have to take out Asad Shafiq and replace him with someone else, like haris sohail. also, Junaid Khan has been performing but Wahab Riaz hasnt so he should be dropped and Junaid Khan should be brought back. we learn that Mohammed Hafeez is struggling to find form, but can still play great shots.hopefully the selectors learnt that Afridi has a one in a million chance of performing. InshaAllah, after playing well this series he will retire and not play in the 2015 world cup. dream team for 3rd odi: 1 jamshed 2 shehzad 3 hafeez 4 Misbah-ul -Haq 5 Umar Akmal 6 haris sohail 7 shahid afridi 8 saeed AAjmal 9 Umar amin 10 junaid khan 11 mohammed irfan

As the false dawn passes once again the frailties in Pakistani batting line-up continue to be exposed. People are always making judgement on Misbah's batting, he should be left alone, he is also one of Pakistan's better fielders.

I have to now start questioning role of Asad Shafiq, he should have been playing the role of finisher, which he did so well against Australia in the 2011 World Cup.

Azhar Ali should be groomed into the ODI side to replace the role of Misbah.

Hafeez should remain, but I don't think he is a Test standard player, we can incorporate Abdur Rehman into the Test arena to play 2nd fiddle to Ajmal.

Junaid if not injured should always be playing as 1 of Pakistan's best 3 bowlers, he is World Class, experiment with new bowlers is only justifiable once the series has been won.

Finally, I have to question Dav Whatmore, is he really that good a coach? looks like he just wants to be a friend of the players and lacks the authority to exercise the necessary discipline.

They revive batting order... Umar Akmal and Afridi need batting up the order... For me, Afridi batting @3 and Akmal in 4 is the best followed by Misbah and Hafees... Also they must dropped Asad Shafiq.... Best wishes from India...

Umar Akmal is a quality player, Misbah needs to understand his value. Mr. Misbah for what reason you are against Abdul Razzaq. Do you have any player in playing 11 who can challenge high quality player like Abdul Razzaq. Due to Abdul Razzaq batting ability we won most of matches in recent years, Situation of this match has been different if he was playing. Sad you are against an honest player.

I know that many people may not like this. But here are the stats of S.AJMAL in the last 10 ODI mathes. IN THE LAST 10 GAMES Ajmal has taken 13 wickets at an average of 31.76 with economoy of 4.65. It looks like Ajmals magic is wanning. If so then he can be dropped for Umar Amin.

Afridi is deserved to be the Best All Rounder as the way he played in the First game.He proved it at most of the occasions with his Bat and Ball.He sould Open the innings in both 20/20 and 50 overs format. He is a good player in Power play overs.Afridi could have been created more records if he and the team would have been in a better slot.

Posted by Sports4Youth on (July 16, 2013, 23:22 GMT)

Misbah will never learn from his mistakes. A team which strugles to go past 200 is regualarly palying 6 bowlers. And moreover it appears that the all-rounders Afridi and Hafeez are better bowlers than Wahab Riaz. It has been ages since W.Riaz has bowled his full quota of 10 overs. Yet he keeps getting in the team and that too at the expense of the consistent JUNAID Khan.

In 27 ODI's JUNAID has claimed 40 victims at an avg of 25.15. Whereas in 34 ODI's W.Riaz has claimed 46 victims at an avg of 30.10. What in the world makes Riaz a better bowler than Junaid?

HAFEEZ should play as a bowling allrounder and bat at no.6, replace W.Riaz by batting all-rounder UMAR AMIN. And replace A.SHAFIQ with HARIS SOHAIL. If Pakistan are struggling so much against WI, what will they do against stronger teams?

Posted by SamWintson92 on (July 16, 2013, 22:16 GMT)

For PAK: a) Another failure for Hafeez in the top order. Pak doesn't learn from mistakes & repeats it again & again. Drop Hafeez down the order b) Shafiq missed out on two matches. It's time to include Haris Sohail c) Can't undestand why Junaid Khan is kept out of the XI. For WI: a) Recall Chanderpaul in place of Devon Smith in the squad. If Misbah can play at 39, then why not Chanderpaul ? He should replace Simmons in the XI b) I feel Sarwan can be given another chance. He averages over 40 in ODIs.

drop hafeez and bring in harris sohai, l

It is always nice to see WI winning again. So many similarities between these to teams. Inconsistency for one. An interesting and exciting series ahead. Congrats WI.

Posted by trivisharma on (July 16, 2013, 22:10 GMT)

first both teams needs right composition, in Pakistan they need proper batsmen who can play a long inning, they lack in top order, on WI why they have All 3 rounder playing Pollard, Sami, and bravo only one have to play and bring specialist batsmen on their teams, its not T20 where you need all this fire power who score once in blue moon, so both teams fighting on luck no proper team.

Posted by sweet2hrme on (July 16, 2013, 22:10 GMT)

Boom Boom Afridi! Yes Afridi is very unpredictable but Pak team is very predictable. Last time 6 overs without a run of bat this time 5 ovrs without a run. So they are maitaining good show of test match! Pak batting is towards the decline no doubts. Every batsman is playing selfish cricket not for team bt for himself only. Playing odi as test match is become their trend now.. They hv longest tail of tailendors. I steel feel some of the players are very ordinary need to replace ..

Posted by warneneverchuck on (July 16, 2013, 22:06 GMT)

As i expected afridi scores once in 10 matches and he is pakistan's match winner then I feel its not going to help pakistan

Posted by roook on (July 16, 2013, 21:55 GMT)

Whats problem with nasir jamshad he has lost his confidence neither of our top four batsman can maintain strike rate of above 70. To much is left at the end we take pressure to ourselves. These are the strike rates 58, 57, 58, 41 and lowest of course of misbah wasted to much deliveries

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 21:54 GMT)

Typical Pakistan effort. One day they beat you easily. The next they look sloppy in the field and incapable of getting bat to ball. If they were more consistent they would sweep aside this WI team easily. P.S. I look forward to ten or so years from now to attend the test or ODI or T20 in which Chanderpaul makes his appearance at age 50 !!!!!!

Pakistan back to its losing ways! But unlike WI, Pak did fight till the end. Pak again and again confused the role of all rounders. They have good all rounders like Hafeez and Afridi. But they are short of decent batsmen. Either Hafeez/Afridi should be sacrificed to get a descent batsmen. Given Afridi's form, Hafeez should give way. But comparatively, Hafeez is good batsman than Afridi :(. Even it is worth to have two pure batsmen in place of these all rounders as all we know, Pak bowlers are too good and so no need of all rounders.

West Indies win but I think the two Pakistani heroes in the first ODI blew it.

I am not sure what stroke Mishbah was playing. He moved way towards the leg side, then try to cut, push or square a straight delivery from Sammy. That looks like school boy cricket shot.

Afridi was in a hurry from the time he came to the crease. Looks like he was late for a flight or a train. Playing like that was the simple reason why he was dropped the first time.

I stand corrected after WI lost to Pakistan by such a large margin. I thought Pakistan will take the series. But if Pakistan maintain this kind of performance, Wi will walk away with the series.

Another pathetic performance by Pakistani team overall, of course batting was the worst but bowling was not up to the mark as well. If anyone have been watching the performance of Pakistani batting, it does not take much bigger brain than a 5 years old kid to realize ... IT IS AN ISSUE WITH BATTING TECHNIQUE SIR!!! THOSE CARTOONS DON'T KNOW HOW TO BAT, SIMPLE AND REAL. Of course the talent is lacking as well but main thing is technique. Look at the batting of Jamshed, dropped 20 times, M. Hafiz, Ahmed Shahzad, and checkout Asad Shafiq ... what a bunch of jokers without any talent and techniques. While Afridi is back in the form (1-5 bowls, 4-6 runs and out), we will continue to see the same show again and again until PCB takes some action to gather real talent and groom them. Time is over for old cricketers like Misbah, M. Hafiz, Afridi, NO TALENT guys like Ahmed Shazad, Asad Shafiq. Bring in Hammad Azam, Sami Aslam, Adil Umer and other good talent.

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 21:42 GMT)

Same old regular story for Pakistan, bowlers do the hard work only for batters to undo it all. Pity. Pakistan's middle order needs a revamp, I feel after Misbah retires it's going to be tough. Youngsters are going to be the key.

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 21:42 GMT)

Dwayne Bravo scored 43 no and took 2 wickets.Pollard scored 30 runs off 27 balls and took 1 wicket.Darren Bravo top scored 54 .Narine destroyed Pakistan batsmen by taking 4 wickets.Top class all round team effort.Glad to see Narine and Pollard finally show some form.

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 21:42 GMT)

Too much of dot bowls poor batting? How pathetic M. Haq when he bats we fall in to sleep? now other bats man are following their Captain? M. Haq given name MR. Dot!

Posted by bigwonder on (July 16, 2013, 21:36 GMT)

The difference has come down to 38 extra runs that Pakistan gave away.

Posted by bouncer709 on (July 16, 2013, 21:36 GMT)

Pathetic tuk tuk approach, today Nasir Jamshed did the work which is every time done by Misbah, Selfish inning by Nasir Jamshed, 54 runs for 93 ball after getting four chances, When will Pak team management realize that Misbah's tuk tuk approach which is now reflected in other players also is not going to win match for us. Opener did not score any run with Bat for 6 overs. Now Misbah will give excuse that this pitch was difficult and 230 was good total.

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 21:31 GMT)

well well well. welcome back paksitan. a normal day in office. its not the score, its the manner in which they get out . ahmed is included on a hope that he will ease out trouble. but still not clicking. hafeez terrible as always, and nasir, even after getting 4 lives couldnt still do it. even misbah failed today. Asad may be good but i think they should bring in haris sohail in . what wrong he will do than these are doing. and welcome back to afridi. as usual. many would argue that we can not rely on afridi always. i agree. and score doesnt matter. its the way he played today. the way he faced the balls he faced before getting out were terrible. inconsistent as always.

today they didnt collapse in start but failed to do later on. and some indiscipline in bowling. too many wides.

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (July 16, 2013, 21:29 GMT)

Nasir Jamshed was nothing but lucky otherwise every one except Umar Akmal faulted again. We should play matches against nietherlands and Afghanistan. For God sake throw Hafeez and Asad Shafiq out. Both have batting averages similer to the averages of other teams bowlers. Bring in Haris Sohail and Umar Amin.

Posted by Zahidsaltin on (July 16, 2013, 21:26 GMT)

HARIS SOHAIL should play in place of Asad Shafiq. Hafeez should bat at 6. Would you listen MISBAH.

Posted by roook on (July 16, 2013, 21:12 GMT)

We retain Hafeez he can take wickets, retain Afridi because he takes wicket but who will bat then. Pakistan batting is pathetic they even cannot rotate strike, only umar akmal is capable of maintaining good strike rate and he was dropped for no reason. West Indies know 200 plus will be impossible for Pakistan. If every batsman need 20-30 balls to get a run then god save us

Posted by romirom on (July 16, 2013, 19:36 GMT)

this is not a pitch where you won the toss and elected to field. misbah miss the trick. they should have been elected to bad first. pitch gets slower and slower even 230 score seems to be par score here.

Posted by Resultpredictor on (July 16, 2013, 18:31 GMT)

Good total by WI and poor start by Pakistan. 233 is the winning total and WI is going to win this match by more than 40runs. Congrats WI for victory. In last match Afridi saved Pakistan from defeat but today noone can Pak from defeat.

Posted by Big3BOSS on (July 16, 2013, 18:08 GMT)

I guess Pakistani batting has been consistently logging failure and has been 60-5 regularly since past few matches. Will the law of averages this time work in their favor and will we see 233 for 5 this time ?

Posted by ball_boy on (July 16, 2013, 18:07 GMT)

For Pakistan ,it is better that the fans and selectors grit their teeth and sit on their seat while the select few preferably youngsters with good technique or good hand eye coordination try out for the team with a select few seniors in the side to guide them.Guaranteed they will lose quite a lot of games in the first year but this will at least hold them in good stead in the world cup 2015 cause good bowling pitches do need the batsman to put up a good score for the bowlers to defend. If they persist with any politics and favoritism then sad to say beyond a quarterfinal spot will be almost impossible for them

Posted by ball_boy on (July 16, 2013, 17:58 GMT)

Boom Boom goes on one last spurt of brilliance before bowing out, lets hope the team leaving aside misbah makes amends by putting up a good batting perfomance.Note that the pitch is not easy to bat on and it requires patience and urge to stay and not give away wicket cause a 232 is equivalent to a 280

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 17:55 GMT)

Good Batting from the two Bravos and Pollard,Now it's the bowlers and fielders turn to ensure a victory. We winning this one !!!!

Posted by Tiger_Ali_Singh on (July 16, 2013, 16:00 GMT)

Riz000" Pakistan doesn't have a player like Hafeez, he is still your match winner. I have seen people asking for Umar Amin but what was his performance in champions trophy, he was struggling even to take a singles... So guys have some patience Haffez will bounce back....

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 15:53 GMT)

I think Gayle needs a rest. and if Pollard doesnt fire, he needs a rest too.

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 15:37 GMT)

well.it look like westindies gonna put up a good total. well fingers cross for lalafied ..... afridi dont let us down today... dont be a trader of our hopes....

Posted by Riz000 on (July 16, 2013, 15:35 GMT)

Can some one Please, please tell me what is the point of taking Harris Sohail on tours wen you are not gona play him?? not even a tour game??? poor guy has been a flying guest for last a year or so but he is yet to make his debut and very importantly what is Haffez doing in the team is this men ever gona get dropped?? failure after failure unbelievable! Sahfiq gets yet another unfortunately not a odi batsman Asad ali more like a club type

Posted by Tiger_Ali_Singh on (July 16, 2013, 15:33 GMT)

If Afridi continues the same performance, I have no doubt that he will surpass the legends like Akram and Waqar.

Posted by Tiger_Ali_Singh on (July 16, 2013, 15:22 GMT)

Afridi is the only player on EARTH were people of India and Pakistan eagerly wait to watch him Play... Well done Lala.

Posted by delboy on (July 16, 2013, 14:58 GMT)

Is what Afridi on good for the WI team performance or just sprinters?

Posted by Resultpredictor on (July 16, 2013, 14:51 GMT)

Good start by WI, Pak bowlers searching for wickets. WI is going to win this match easily and the series will be levelled one all. Afridi will become flop today. In last match Afridi was hero and in today's match he will be ZERO.

Posted by SaadRocx on (July 16, 2013, 14:35 GMT)

Pakistan would never learn!! they never select the best playing 11 for any match...Asad Shafiq with an average of 27? is playing at #4 and with such a low strike rate? he's a test player let him play tests only!! his batting states suggest that..he should never play and t20 or ODI in his life...and Junaid should be brought back!!wonder when Pak learn from its past mistakes! never i guess!

Posted by SaadRocx on (July 16, 2013, 14:29 GMT)

Bring Amir back!!!!!!!!plzzzzz

Posted by SaadRocx on (July 16, 2013, 14:27 GMT)

Asad Shafiq and Asad Ali in again? ohh well! Junaid could have been really deadly on this pitch!! as Asad Ali and Wahab Riaz can't bring the ball in!...Asad Shafiq is a test player for God's sake.I wonder what's wrong with Misbah and Dev-What-More?

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 14:25 GMT)

@Saad .. Well you are saying Wahab and Asad are not wicket taking bowlers from what I can remember Junaid went wicket less in the CT .. While Wahab wa exceptional. Asad deserves his chance with 3 or 4 games

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 14:19 GMT)

WI after big blow come back very well so now pakistani spiners have to do well.....

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 14:15 GMT)

pk will need to battle to win

Posted by M.Khan95 on (July 16, 2013, 14:13 GMT)

junaid khan isnt perfectly fit. has a slight injury.

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 14:00 GMT)

Like I said that our selectors are much concerned about making money rather than wining the match. Asad ali and wahab riaz are not a wicket takeing bowlers. I am wondering that why Junaid was left out

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 13:59 GMT)

Rain could affect WI batting

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 13:57 GMT)

Asad ali is such an average bowler much like razzaq ...shouldve selected junaid thts the reason they havent been able to add more pressure on batsmen

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 13:53 GMT)

rain rain go away

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 13:48 GMT)

current situation may go in favor of Pakistan

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 13:48 GMT)

why asad ali is opening bowling on this kind of pitch? and why junaid khan is out pak xi???

Posted by kamranbutt on (July 16, 2013, 13:41 GMT)

M.Irfan Key player for Pakistan

Posted by A-Gunnie on (July 16, 2013, 13:29 GMT)

Why is Pollard still on the West Indies....the stats proves he's done enough for WI to be left off.

Posted by   on (July 16, 2013, 12:59 GMT)

why is junaid khan out of playing eleven?
