Kemar Roach is opening the bowling for West Indies. Tino Mawoyo and Vusi Sibanda are the Zimbabwe openers. Roach from over the wicket ...
Toss, 9.45 am Brendan Taylor has won the toss and Zimbabwe will bat at Kensington Oval. Taylor says getting through the first hour without damage will be key, like it always is. Chris Mpofu is injured and so Tendai Chatara makes his debut.
Darren Sammy said he wanted to bat as well, but he has three quicks to call on and is hopeful they will exploit any nearly moisture. West Indies have left out Veerasammy Permaul and Narsingh Deonarine.
Taron : "I think it's fair to say no one is expecting Zimbabwe to win... But then again, did anyone expect Bangladesh to notch up a 600+ total?"
It's a sunny morning in Bridgetown, those forecasted scattered showers are far away at the moment. Jeff Dujon says the pitch is nice and hard, grass rolled in. He expects some pace and bounce early on but it will get much easier to bat on.
Justin: "Zim don't have anything to loose. Hopefully they can put in a performance like Bangladesh did and get a draw out of this... which will be a victory in many ways. Also this squad should have been the ODI one - I do not get why they even try play a specialised test squad? Zimbabwe just doesn't have the depth for that... Price is ranked as one of their top ODI bowlers too... strange"
Cliff: "Windies lineup looks a little limited overs: 2 spinners, 2 pacers and a bunch of bits and pieces. Could have a scorecard with 8 bowlers. Not sure if that's the way to go for Bridgetown but we'll have to see."
9.15 am Good day, and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's ball-by-ball coverage of the Test series between West Indies and Zimbabwe. The forecast for Bridgetown is for scattered showers so let's hope they arrive after stumps.
West Indies have won everything on the tour so far, beating Zimbabwe 3-0 in the ODIs and 2-0 in the Twenty20s. They have Marlon Samuels back for the Tests; the batsman is returning to competitive cricket after getting smashed in the face by a Lasith Malinga bouncer during the big bash.
In his preview of the Test, Siddarth Ravindran says West Indies have the opportunity to win five Tests in a row, if they win in Barbados, something they haven't achieved since the late 1980s.
This is Zimbabwe's first Test in more than a year so they will have to adjust quickly to batting for more than 50-overs. "So how are we expected to win when we havent played a test in over a year??" Anyone have answers for Herb?
Ross Lawson: "Not looking for a Zim win, but determination, effort and a platform to build upon is what is required."
Adam: "Herb: Don't worry about winning right now, use this tour for practice and concentrate on beating Sri Lanka in October. Then the Zims get a home win, Windies move up to six, everybody's happy"
Big Mac (Harare): "Go Zim ! Undoubtedly the underdogs, but hopefully they can learn from the whole experience and become more competitive over time."

12.00 pm At 91 for 2, Zimbabwe will be pleased with the progress they have made in the first session after winning the toss. They survived an opening pace barrage from Best and Roach for the loss of only one wicket, and scoring became much easier after Gabriel and Sammy came on. Mawoyo's played steadily and given his team a base to build on. The pitch hasn't had alarming bounce, it's been a bit up and down. I'll be back in 40 minutes for the second session.

Gabriel to Taylor,
OUT,
the stumps have been demolished! Gabriel's hardly got anything to move today but that one did. He bowled a full ball angling into middle stump, which made Taylor want to close the face of his bat and play the ball through midwicket. The ball began to shape away from the right-hander, though, and went past the closing face to clatter into off stump. Terrific ball. Out of the blue from Shannon

that's a little risky, Waller moves back and across and swats a short ball past Sammy at leg slip, he's very close in that position, a near-impossible chance
|
44.3 |
Shillingford to Waller,
OUT,
he's out somehow, either lbw or caught bat-pad. Or is he? Waller's asked for a review. I'm not yet certain how he was given out. Waller tried to sweep, moving across his stumps, and the ball seemed to hit the bottom edge, hit his pad, hit the keeper's pad and lob up to Sammy at leg slip for a simple catch. But I think he's been given lbw, at least that's what the review checked. If there was no bottom edge, the lbw is out too. So either way, Waller has to go, lbw it is
