Clive Lloyd Trophy - 2nd Test

West Indies v Zimbabwe

West Indies won by an innings and 65 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

Out come the players, Mawoyo and Sibanda the openers, Kemar Roach with the new ball

10.25am: A couple of contrasting viewpoints, here ... if we all agreed, etc and so on.

"Oh, give it a rest Ben," sighs Andrew Schulz. "To say 'WI have the talent to mix it with the best in the world, no one can deny that' is outrageous. I'll deny it right here. Or are you just talking about 20 over cricket. In Tests, WI are a mile behind the top 5."

And here's Malcolm, with a view to rile the Aussies: "@Ben What about WI Captain Darren Sammy??? Wouldn't he make most teams as well??? I would think he could even do a better job than Michael Clarke is doing now ...lmao"

10.10am: West Indies have won the toss and will bowl, Darren Sammy reports an unchanged side. They're going to aim to bat once. Brendan Taylor, Zimbabwe's captain, isn't too disappointed, as he says he would have batted too. They've made a couple of switches, with Regis Chakabva having broken his finger in the first Test, so Taylor will take the gloves. Ray Price also drops out, with Sean Williams and Prosper Utseya coming in.

West Indies 1 Chris Gayle, 2 Kieran Powell, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Shivnarine Chanderpaul, 6 Denesh Ramdin (wk), 7 Darren Sammy (capt), 8 Kemar Roach, 9 Tino Best, 10 Shane Shillingford, 11 Shannon Gabriel

Zimbabwe (possible) 1 Tino Mawoyo, 2 Vusi Sibanda, 3 Hamilton Masakadza, 4 Brendan Taylor (capt & wk), 5 Craig Ervine, 6 Malcolm Waller, 7 Sean Williams, 8 Graeme Cremer, 9 Prosper Utseya, 10 Kyle Jarvis, 11 Tendai Chatara

10.05am: The pitch report suggests a reasonably hard, flat deck, though there are one or two cracks visible. Dominica is expected to offer turn - Shane Shillingford took ten here last year, while Michael Clarke also chipped in with a five-for.

Here's Ben: "This could potentially be an extremely important set of matches for West Indies cricket if they come away from here with 6 straight wins in a row, this could do their confidence the world of good, they have the talent to mix it with the best in the world and no one can deny that. Names like, Marlon Samuels, Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo and Kemar Roach would make most teams in the world especially the first two names, game changers!"

9.55am: Toss delayed due to a wet outfield ... The pitch is now uncovered, though, so hopefully we won't be long in getting the players out there.

"It has been a tough tour for Zimbabwe but l am backing the lads to bounce back in this match. Go go Zim," cheers Tendai Mudunge. Yes, Zimbabwe are facing a whitewashing on this tour - they'll need to pull off something special to avert that here.

9.45am: Hearing that there's been a wee bit of rain over Dominica this morning, so that explains the delay - no news on whether the start will be pushed back yet.

"Looking for the West Indies to really dominate from the off today, the quicks surely can't be as unlucky as in Barbados, so Shillingford probably won't get the chance to take quite so many wickets," says Carl. "The selectors have missed a golden opportunity to blood young speedster Delorn Johnson though, his high left-arm angle would add another dimension to a promising attack."

I enjoyed watching Shannon Gabriel again during the Barbados Test. Little bit wayward but when he gets it right, he looks marvellous.

9.35am: Still waiting on the toss - but here, courtesy of the West Indies Twitter feed, is a remarkable scorecard, from 13 years ago to the day, when Zimbabwe blew up for 63 in pursuit of 99 to win in Port-of-Spain. Interestingly, that match was also Chris Gayle's debut...

"Really hoping for an attritional day of Test cricket," says Shane, voicing the thoughts of, well, at least a handful of you. "About time that the Zimbabwe team show grit, determination and application"

Here's Bryan: "A West Indies supporter but still hoping for better performances from both sides in the batting department." This pitch is expected to spin, Bryan, so we could be in for a spot of Calypso Collapso, at some point...

9.25am: Good morning and get out of the way, because the great West Indies express is on a roll. Okay, so their five consecutive Test victories have come against New Zealand (2), Bangladesh (2) and Zimbabawe but that quirk of the calendar has been enough to make Darren Sammy's side the most successful from the Caribbean since the 1980s. The only question is, can Zimbabwe take the game into the fourth day will they make it six? Abhishek Purohit's preview is your recommended reading and we'll bring you news of the teams and the toss as soon as we get it.

0.1

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, banged in short and the ball loops up outside off stump, Mawoyo leaves it and it barely reaches Ramdin behind the stumps

0.2

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, short ball again, sails through outside off and Mayowo watches it by, Ramdin collects this one low in front of him

In comes a fielder at short leg

0.3

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, on the stumps, length delivery and tapped off the pads

0.4

Roach to Mawoyo, 1 run, coming back in off a length, Mawoyo waits on it and closes the face, beats short leg and runs away through square for the first run of the match

0.5

Roach to Sibanda, no run, slightly full and outside the line of off, pushed on the front foot into the covers

0.6

Roach to Sibanda, no run, Sibanda gets across to defend a length ball into the off side - solid enough start from the openers (okay, I know it's only been six balls)

End of over 1 (1 run) Zimbabwe 1/0
V Sibanda    0* (2b)      KAJ Roach    1-0-1-0
TMK Mawoyo    1* (4b)

Tino Best, who will have been irked to go wicketless in Barbados, coming in from the other end

1.1

Best to Mawoyo, no run, length ball ducking back in a touch from outside off, defended back down the track

1.2

Best to Mawoyo, 1 run, touch shorter and a little straight, taken off the pads through square leg for another single

1.3

Best to Sibanda, 1 run, very full, looking for the yorker, slides down the leg side and Sibanda gets a scrape of bat on it, rolls behind square

1.4

Best to Mawoyo, no run, good line and length, up at 140kph as Best grunts on release, left alone in the channel

1.5

Best to Mawoyo, no run, pitched up on off stump, not much deviation in the air or off the pitch so far, defended towards extra-cover

1.6

Best to Mawoyo, no run, short this time, around about off stump, drops his hands and lets it through around head height

"Everybody always to forget one of the greatest - Chanderpaul!" exclaims Chris. "None of the others have achieved what this man has!"

End of over 2 (2 runs) Zimbabwe 3/0
TMK Mawoyo    2* (9b)      TL Best    1-0-2-0
V Sibanda    1* (3b)      KAJ Roach    1-0-1-0

2.1

Roach to Sibanda, 1 run, pitched up around off stump, fired in from wide of the crease, defended on the front foot

2.2

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, length delivery, gets across to cover the stumps

2.3

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, full and a little wide, Mawoyo feels adventurous enough to drive, he's able to trust the pitch so far but doesn't get it out of the middle and the ball trickles to mid-off

2.4

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, length and prodded away square on the off side

2.5

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, first signs of swing for Roach, though it came after passing the batsman, Mawoyo leaving a ball coming back outside off and Ramdin having to throw himself to his left to prevent byes

2.6

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, good length in the channel and this one sails through as the batsman leaves again

Here's Kiernan: "@Ben - Write down the South African Test match XI, even with a few injuries. Then write the current Windies team alongside them. If you still think they would compete with the best, drive yourself to the nearest loony bin."

End of over 3 (1 run) Zimbabwe 4/0
TMK Mawoyo    2* (14b)      KAJ Roach    2-0-2-0
V Sibanda    2* (4b)      TL Best    1-0-2-0

3.1

Best to Sibanda, no run, back of a length, pacy stuff from Best, blocked on the back foot

3.2

Best to Sibanda, no run, gets a leading edge trying to play to leg this time, just shaping back from a full length on middle and off

3.3

Best to Sibanda, no run, touching 145kph/90mph now, Best working up a lather, swinging away from back of a length and comfortably left alone

3.4

Best to Sibanda, (no ball) 3 runs, dug in short and credit to Sibanda for being quickly in position to pull flat through midwicket, the ball stopping a yard or two short of the rope - Best had overstepped too

3.4

Best to Mawoyo, FOUR, overpitched on the stumps and sweetly punched back through mid-on, there's no man there and Mawoyo picks up a well-timed four, despite the slow outfield

3.5

Best to Mawoyo, no run, peach of a delivery from Best, holding its line over the top of off and zipping through past the edge as Mawoyo played back

3.6

Best to Mawoyo, 1 wide, bouncer, very short and over the crouching batsman's head - called wide

This slip goes back in, no short leg and there's now a man at mid-on again

3.6

Best to Mawoyo, no run, on the stumps, seaming in off a length and punched on the up to mid-on

"Cannot believe that Ray Price has been dropped and not Graeme Cremer," says Cyrildasquirrell. "What game where the selectors watching during the first Test? Surely Zim needs Price's experience considering their performance to date?"

End of over 4 (9 runs) Zimbabwe 13/0
TMK Mawoyo    6* (17b 1x4)      TL Best    2-0-11-0
V Sibanda    5* (8b)      KAJ Roach    2-0-2-0

4.1

Roach to Sibanda, FOUR, lovely front-foot cover drive from Sibanba, looks like the pitch isn't going to aid the fast men too much, Roach overpitching around off and being confidently flayed through the off side

4.2

Roach to Sibanda, FOUR, and now punched in front of square off the back foot! Roach a little off target again and Sibanda is not holding back, able to stroke the ball through cover-point standing tall in the crease

4.3

Roach to Sibanda, FOUR, short and wide and steered deliberately over the slip, big top edge but there was a wristy flick to go with it and Sibanda gets his third four in a row

Roach chuntering away to himself now

4.4

Roach to Sibanda, 1 bye, better line, outside off and the ball wobbling as it reaches Ramdin, who doesn't take it cleanly and they pick up a bye

4.5

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, a studious leave from Mawoyo, who's watched his partner hand out a few licks this over and is happy to let balls in the channel go through

4.6

Roach to Mawoyo, 1 run, coming back, on middle and leg and worked off the pads through square

End of over 5 (14 runs) Zimbabwe 27/0
TMK Mawoyo    7* (19b 1x4)      KAJ Roach    3-0-15-0
V Sibanda    17* (12b 3x4)      TL Best    2-0-11-0

5.1

Best to Mawoyo, 1 run, stays back and guides one behind point for a single

5.2

Best to Sibanda, FOUR, touch full and wide, just a check drive from Sibanda, seemed come off near the toe but the ball nevertheless flies away to the cover boundary for four more

5.3

Best to Sibanda, no run, gets across and defends a 90mph delivery outside off

5.4

Best to Sibanda, 1 run, full and straight and tucked off the pads through midwicket

5.5

Best to Mawoyo, no run, short and wide of the stumps, swaying back on its way past Mawoyo, who lifts his hands out of the way

5.6

Best to Mawoyo, no run, back of a length and a good couple of feet outside off, no stroke once again

Lively start from the openers, Sibanda in particular. West Indies in danger of squandering their advantage after winning the toss. "ZIM need atleast 325 in this innings," suggests Jawad. "Then it will be difficult for WI."

End of over 6 (6 runs) Zimbabwe 33/0
TMK Mawoyo    8* (22b 1x4)      TL Best    3-0-17-0
V Sibanda    22* (15b 4x4)      KAJ Roach    3-0-15-0

6.1

Roach to Sibanda, FOUR, dug in very short, wide enough for Sibanda to free the arms, attempting to hit over the cordon again, this time he gets a thick top edge and it sails above the leaping Ramdin for another boundary

6.2

Roach to Sibanda, no run, short of a good length and angled in at the body, tucked into the leg side, came off the forearm actually

This is now the best opening partnership of the series, by the way

6.3

Roach to Sibanda, no run, fuller length outside off, lets this one go

6.4

Roach to Sibanda, 1 run, full and straight, up in the blockhole, Sibanda drops his bat in time to dig it out in front of leg stump, the ball deflects short on the off side and they get one

6.5

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, gets forward outside off to block

6.6

Roach to Mawoyo, no run, beats the bat, wasn't quite full enough to drive and the ball skips past Mawoyo's airy swish in the channel

"If this was against someone other than Zimbabwe, looking at this pitch, I'd say Darren Sammy had made a balls-up at the toss of Nasser Hussain-at-Brisbane-2002 proportions..." Good job, for West Indies, that they've not got to bowl at Hayden and Langer, eh, Samuel. Though Roach and Best have made the openers look pretty good so far

End of over 7 (5 runs) Zimbabwe 38/0
TMK Mawoyo    8* (24b 1x4)      KAJ Roach    4-0-20-0
V Sibanda    27* (19b 5x4)      TL Best    3-0-17-0

Little bit of treatment required for Sibanda, after that blow on the arm

7.1

Best to Sibanda, no run, left alone in the corridor outside off, the ball seaming away

7.2

Best to Sibanda, FOUR, edged but low through the slips, where third would be standing, the ball skips away for four more - Best had the better of him but it was kept down reasonably well

7.3

Best to Sibanda, no run, good delivery from Best, the ball arcing in and out, Sibanda fishes but manages to pull his bat inside the line at the last

7.4

Best to Sibanda, no run, zings through again, back of a length and the batsman is stuck on the crease and fencing, can't get anything on it as the ball sails over the top of off

7.5

Best to Sibanda, no run, pitched up a bit more, good shape in the corridor outside off, steps out and leaves

7.6

Best to Sibanda, no run, lovely delivery, not quite unplayable but angled in on a full length, gets Sibanda driving and it whistles past the edge again

Best over of the morning, that, from Best. Sensing the mood, Chip Chirara is appealing for calm: "Somebody tell my Zim fellow countrymen that it is not a T20! I am impressed so far. Hope it continues."

End of over 8 (4 runs) Zimbabwe 42/0
V Sibanda    31* (25b 6x4)      TL Best    4-0-21-0
TMK Mawoyo    8* (24b 1x4)      KAJ Roach    4-0-20-0

First change, with the not-quite-there Roach off for Shannon Gabriel

8.1

Gabriel to Mawoyo, no run, starts well, full and shaping away outside off, Mawoyo tries to leave and the ball hits the toe and rolls towards the slips

8.2

Gabriel to Mawoyo, no run, full and wide of the off, no stroke offered

8.3

Gabriel to Mawoyo, no run, angled in from wide of the crease this time, full and straight and blocked on the front foot

8.4

Gabriel to Mawoyo, no run, oof, that's a jaffa, full and outside off, holding its line and beating the bat, though not much of a shot from Mawoyo, swinging down across the line

8.5

Gabriel to Mawoyo, no run, pitched up again, in the channel, leans out to defend on the front foot, showing it the full face of the bat this time

8.6

Gabriel to Mawoyo, OUT, disastrous leave ... and bowled him! Mawoyo did not look comfortable in that over, Gabriel pitching it up and swinging the ball away, this one went straight on, maybe even nipped back a touch and clattered into the top of off as the batsman shouldered arms

TMK Mawoyo b Gabriel 8 (43m 30b 1x4 0x6) SR: 26.66

So, does that mean the party is over? In comes Hamilton Masakadza

9.1

Best to Sibanda, 1 run, mistimed but the ball loops between mid-off and extra-cover, this just held up a touch, whether off the pitch or from the hand and Sibanda punched on the up wide of the scrambling fielder

9.2

Best to Masakadza, no run, tight leave, staying back and shouldering arms, the ball zipping through a couple of inches from the off peg

9.3

Best to Masakadza, no run, props forward to defend a length ball outside off this time

9.4

Best to Masakadza, no run, dug in and played into the off side from the crease

9.5

Best to Masakadza, no run, bends the back and thumps this into the deck outside off, gets up from short of a length and left alone

"The rot starts again!" despairs Tafadzwa

9.6

Best to Masakadza, no run, gets across and defends from the back foot in front of the off stump

"Very true Samuel," says Adam (before the wicket fell, to be fair to him). "Especially with a flat deck now and a WI playing on a spinning track later. Why not do it the other way around. Bat on this pitch and save Shillingford for when the pitch cracks?"

10.1

Gabriel to Sibanda, no run, full, almost a low full toss on leg stump and clipped off the pads, straight to backward square and Shillingford stops the ball but looks to be in a bit of pain after being hit on the wrist

He needs a bit of treatment ... Sammy will be hoping the magic spray lives up to its name, given the role that right arm may have to play in the match

10.2

Gabriel to Sibanda, no run, back of a length and angled in from outside off, hops back and leaves

10.3

Gabriel to Sibanda, OUT, full toss on the stumps - and belted straight to mid-on, now Sibanda falls! Well, he's thrown that away after a sparkling start, another low full-bunger from Gabriel, not quite getting it right in search of the swing, Sibanda shaped to hit through midwicket but got it too straight, came low off the bat but not low enough, as Roach tumbled forward to claim the catch just above the ground

V Sibanda c Roach b Gabriel 32 (54m 29b 6x4 0x6) SR: 110.34

Sibanda walks off shaking his head - as Brendan Taylor and the drinks pass him coming the other way

10.4

Gabriel to Taylor, no run, full and straight to begin with, Taylor watches it on to the bat and blocks in front of middle and off

10.5

Gabriel to Taylor, no run, pitched up and again dug out on the stumps, Gabriel looking for that vicious, late away swing that did for Taylor in Barbados

10.6

Gabriel to Taylor, no run, good length in the channel and blocked on the front foot into the covers

Shane Shillingford is off the pitch to ice his wrist... and I'm off to cool my heels. Here's AJ Winter until lunch

12.1

Gabriel to Masakadza, no run, hint of shape into the right-hander, who comes forward just outside off to guide into the gully

12.4

Gabriel to Masakadza, no run, more length this time, blocked on the crease

12.5

Gabriel to Masakadza, no run, touch wider and fuller, an off drive is saved by a sliding Chanderpaul with his right hand

12.6

Here we go, the local boy, Shane Shillingford, comes into the attack...four men around the bat...

18.1

Shillingford to Taylor, 1 leg bye, turns a little off middle and off, runs off the pad past leg slip

18.2

Shillingford to Masakadza, no run, turn from outside off, blocked around off stump in the crease

18.3

Shillingford to Masakadza, 2 runs, a charge down the wicket and a wild swing gets a huge top edge, where on earth has this gone? It's gone over slip's head but Chris Gayle can't get back to take the catch, horrible stroke

18.4

Shillingford to Masakadza, no run, carefully blocked on the back foot now on the stumps

18.5

Shillingford to Masakadza, no run, goes to cut but it spits in and he's cramped, ends up defending awkwardly into midwicket

18.6

Shillingford to Masakadza, OUT, and now bowled him with the doosra. After an over of significantly turning deliveries, this one has just gone straight on, beat the outside edge as the batsman tried to play forward for the turn and lost his middle and off stumps, brilliantly delivery, cracking over

Howdy, cricket fans. Are you ready for some cricket? We're about to play some cricket (well, not 'we', strictly speaking - but a bunch of chaps out in Dominica. We're going to watch, comment, chuckle, grouse and generally release hot air into the internet's fragile ecosystem). Shall we?

28.4

Shillingford to Ervine, 2 runs, covers the line this time, opens the face and guides on with the spin down to third man

Shillingford to Taylor, FOUR, floated up and spinning back from wide of off stump, gets down and across and sweeps hard past the man stationed at 45 for a boundary

30.2

Shillingford to Taylor, no run, props forward and caught at silly point, the West Indies players are delighted but Tony Hill seems uncertain - looks like he has asked the third umpire whether it has carried to the close fielder. The question, firstly, is whether the umpire was going to give it out if the catch has carried; Taylor could then choose to review. But the third umpire appears to have advised that Taylor didn't hit it anyway and Hill signals 'not out'. I hesitate to say it but that looked suspiciously like common sense prevailing there

30.3

Shillingford to Taylor, no run, tossed up outside off, short of a length and defended off the back foot

30.4

Shillingford to Taylor, no run, pushed through a bit quicker, goes back outside off and pads up

30.5

Shillingford to Taylor, OUT, got him this time, and no need to review... Taylor bowled trying to reverse sweep! He goes for 33, his second-top score on this tour, but his team needed more from the captain. Trying to take the attack to Shillingford, he reversed the hands and tried to sweep, it pinballed around, off the chin and back on to the hand, before plopping on to the stumps. Shillingford has a second, Zimbabwe in a wee bit of trouble now

31.5

Best to Ervine, no run, fuller and coming back in from wide of off, left again comfortably despite Best's exclamation
