Edward Lester is one of cricket's mysteries. He played seven matches as a professional for Middlesex in 1929 and 1930. He was not a keeper, did not bowl (other than a few overs in one innings) and almost all the time batted at No. 10. His record speaks for itself. Unlike the vast majority of first-class cricketers no information exists as to his birth or death.
