Peter Solway is the most experienced player currently playing for the Canberra Comets. He has played the most matches and scored the most runs for the ACT as well as scoring the most runs in the ACTCA grade competition. He had his debut for the ACT in 1983/84 and playing for the ACT Under 19's in 1981/82, 1982/83 and 1983/84. Since then he has been a rock in the ACT side. He captained the ACT side from 1991/92 until 1994/95. Although born outside of the district, he moved to Queanbeyan at the age of 12 and progressed through the ACT junior representative sides, usually as captain. His first further taste of representative cricket came in 1984/85 where he was one of four ACT players selected in the NSW Country team for the initial Australian Country Championships. Other representative accolades have included being selected for the Australian Country side, including as captain, being named as the New South Wales Country Cricketer of the Year, and being named in the Prime Minister's XI for the 1993/94 match against South Africa. Locally, Peter Solway has played for two grade clubs. Queanbeyan from 1980 to 1994, and for ANU since 1994. He has won the D.B. Robin medal for the cricketer of the year once in 1985/86, and the grade batting award four times, 1989/90, 1990/91, 1993/94, and 1998/99. He has also been named the ACT representative cricketer of the year in 1991/92 and 1995/96. He is also the only player in ACTCA grade cricket history to score a triple hundred, scoring 337 in 1989/90 to break the grade record which had been in existence since 1926/27. Additionally he holds the record for the most number of runs scored in a ACT first grade season, breaking the record in 1990/91, a record which had been held since 1931/32. Peter Solway is approaching his retirement and there can be no better way than helping the Canberra Comets to their first domestic title from his usual position of first drop.
