Jamaica set to extend stay on the top

Jamaica are likely to extend their lead on the top of the table after setting Barbados 515 for a win at the Kensington Oval. At stumps on day three Barbados needed 408 with eight wickets in hand. At the start of the day such a mammoth target had looked unlikely as the Jamaican top order failed to capitalise on a 117-run first-innings lead and had collapsed to 103 for 5 in the second. But the lower order, led by Carlton Baugh, who scored his second century in two matches, rallied to take them to 397 for 8 declared. Baugh added 67 with Brendan Nash and reached his century from 168 balls with a flick off Kevin Stoute to deep fine leg. He retired hurt at 108 after being hit on the forearm by a short ball from Javon Searles. Nikita Miller (86), who took five wickets in Barbados' first innings, and Daren Powell (69) made career-best scores that took Jamaica to a dominant position. Legspinner Nikolai Charles was Barbados' most successful bowler with 3 for 48.

A loss for Barbados will mean a gain for Windward Islands, who are also staring at defeat, having collapsed to 31 for 3 in chasing 301 set by Combined Campuses and Colleges in St Vincent. Windwards' are currently second on the points table, six points ahead of Barbados. CCC took a first-innings lead of 117 after picking up the last three Windwards wickets in the first six overs of day three. Kurt Wilkinson ended with a career-best 4 for 45 while Ryan Austin took 3 for 28. Opener Omar Phillips' maiden half-century helped CCC extend the lead even as other batsmen collapsed around him. He finally received support from the experienced Floyd Reifer (53) and CCC declared at 183 for 8. Offspinner Shane Shillingford took 4 for 39. Windwards' chase got off to a horrific start with three wickets falling for nine runs; Kevin McClean dismissed the openers before Kavesh Kantasingh had No. 3 Keon Peters caught for 5. On Monday not-out batsmen Kevin James and Donwell Hector will begin the fight for a draw. But it won't be easy against a side desperate for their first win since January.

After two washed out days, Guyana and Leeward Islands finally began their match on day three in Albion, with Guyana reaching 254 for 5 at stumps. Narsingh Deonarine, the tournament's leading run-scorer, fell six short of what would have been his third hundred of the season. He added 63 with Leon Johnson and 92 with Assad Fudadin (51 not out).
