First-innings points take Jamaica to title

Jamaica won the four-day championship by assuring first-innings points against the Windward Islands at the Trelawny Stadium. Table-toppers Jamaica dismissed the visitors for 222, seven runs short of their target of 229 to move to an unassailable 96 points with two rounds of the competition remaining. Deon Smith hit a handsome half-century for Windwards but medium pacer David Bernard grabbed 4 for 31 and legspinner Odean Brown captured 3 for 49, to ensure the honours belonged to Jamaica. Continuing from the overnight 223 from 9, Jamaica lost Carlton Baugh quickly, after he added just six to his overnight 54 and became Keon Peters' fifth wicket. During Windwards' reply, Smith lost opening partner Miles Bascombe and Andre Fletcher quickly but shared 61 for the third wicket with Donwell Hector to revive the innings. Smith scored 55 off 135 balls, hitting five fours, but was bowled by Brown as Windwards lost five wickets for 68 runs. However, Kenroy Peters and Nelon Pascal fought back with a last-wicket stand of 46, to take Windwards within a whisker of grabbing first-innings points. Batting again, Jamaica lost Donovan Pagon for a duck to finish the day at 8 without loss.

Opener Omar Phillips completed his maiden first-class double hundred as Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) ended on a strong 519 against Leeward Islands at Grove Park. Resuming on 283 for 3, Phillips added 36 for the fourth wicket with captain Floyd Reifer, who fell for 92, caught behind off Gavin Tonge. Having reached his double hundred from 375 balls, Phillips was then caught in the deep, off legspinner Anthony Martin, half an hour after lunch. His purposeful 204 off 396 balls included 23 fours and four sixes. Chadwick Walton stroked a 71-ball 50 towards the end, comprising five fours and two sixes, even as the CCC lost their last six wickets between lunch and tea for 97 runs. Martin was Leewards' most successful bowler with 3 for 122 while Tonge and Wilden Cornwall picked up two wickets apiece. Anderson Sealy then removed Kieran Powell for 41 as Leewards took stumps at 75 for 1.

Steven Jacobs hit a composed 54 to prop up bottom-placed Guyana against Trinidad & Tobago at the Queen's Park Oval. Jacobs scored 54 as Guyana, continuing from their overnight 129 for 3, were bowled out for 282 with legspinner Imran Khan claiming 5 for 42. The overnight batsmen for the visitors, Sewnarine Chattergoon (68) and captain Travis Dowlin (42), batted cautiously under overcast conditions to extended their partnership for the fourth wicket to 69. Chattergoon fell before lunch, caught behind off Rayad Emrit having stroked six boundaries and a six in his marathon 213-ball stay. Rain forced an early lunch and Khan was into the action immediately, getting Dowlin to hole out to Atiba Allert at mid-on, and then following it up with Assad Fudadin's wicket. Jacobs reached his half-century off 62 balls with six fours and a six, but eventually perished as Khan struck twice in his 11th over. T&T closed the day at 53 for 1, losing Imran Khan cheaply to Christopher Barnwell, for seven.
