Adrian Barath, the rookie West Indies batsman, will undergo an MRI scan for the injured hamstring that kept him out of the third Test in Perth recently.

Barath had made a hundred on debut in Brisbane, becoming the youngest West Indian to do so, but hurt his hamstring during the second Test. The seriousness of the setback is not yet known, but Barath's local doctor in Trinidad has advised him to undergo further examination to determine the exact location of the pull.

"While training I felt a pull in the hamstring and we decided to play it safe. Since then we have been treating it and now the doctor has asked for the MRI scan and we are going to do that now," said Barath on return home from Australia. "When we locate the area where the injury is, the doctor will treat it accordingly. I am keen to get back to training with the regional first-class tournament upon us."

From the wreckage of West Indies' lamentable Brisbane campaign Barath delivered a performance worthy of the highest order of recognition. At just 19 years and 228 days, he became the seventh youngest batsman in Test history to post a century on debut, and the youngest ever West Indian, breaking the 79-year record held by George Headley.

"I was very happy to become the youngest player to get a century for the West Indies and I am really happy at the moment," he said. "I am glad to be home with my family for Christmas and really looking to spend some time with my dad. I am hoping for a great new year and will be doing my best to represent West Indies well."
