Three wickets each for Bengal medium-pacer Shami Ahmed and legspinner Rahul Sharma helped India A bowl out West Indies A for a modest 252 on the first day in Barbados.

India made a strong start to the series after electing to field as Ahmed and Co reduced the home side to 126 for 7, before two unlikely sources of resistance led West Indies' recovery.

Devon Thomas, the Leewards Islands wicketkeeper-batsman, made only his second first-class half-century in nearly three years and captain Veerasammy Permaul scored his maiden fifty to lift West Indies past 200. The pair collected 92 runs for the eighth wicket before Rahul Sharma bowled Thomas for 57.

There was a 44-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Nkrumah Bonner and Jonathan Carter but little defiance otherwise from the top-and-middle order.

This is an important series for both the home side's openers: Lendl Simmons, who scored 792 runs at 49.50 in ODIs for West Indies last year, was returning from a finger injury which kept him out of top-flight cricket since February, while Kraigg Brathwaite was trying to re-stake his claim for a Test opening slot after being dropped following a dismal series against Australia. Neither of them could make an impact though, as they were both dismissed for 11.

Brathwaite battled for more than an hour before becoming the first of Ahmed's three victims. Besides Ahmed, another Bengal medium-pacer Ashok Dinda had a decent outing, as he shook off the side strain which kept him out of the second half of the IPL, to bowl 17 overs for one wicket.

Shami ahmed a very good fast bowling prospect.. good luck mate

Great! This is what cricket wants. A teams from different countries should play around while the national team plays official tests and ODIs. This would definitely help players to fine-tune themselves for when picked for the national teams. I think this has to be done more often than usual. I would prefer this than this glam bam IPLs or any other 20/20s.

Friends Rohit smashes yet another fine knock. His knock of 94 nly gives India A lead over WI A by 22 runs. I am following this match very closely through twitter. Thx for West Indies Cricket Board for giving ball to ball updates through twitter. Mukund cleaned in the very first over & unfortunately Rahane got runout in very next. Both were out for duck. Rohit came at the crease when India A were struggling badly at 13/3 as Dhvan also got out at 9. From this position Rohit & Pujara took India out of danger as they contributed 94 runs for the 4th wicket. Pujara made exactely 50. Then onwards Rohit built another important partnership of 64 runs with Tiwary as Tiwary went for 40. After reaching 94 Rohit was cleaned and from there Saha with bottom line players took India 274. 22 runs ahead of WI first innings total. Well played Rohit, Pujara & Saha. Saha too made classy half cenury. 54. Now the match is heading towards interesting position. 2 days to go. Lets see. All the best India A.

Shikhar Dawan's running between the wickets is horrible. Hope it doesn't cost Ajinkya Rahane a spot in Indian team. Rohit Sharma doesn't deserve a chance as he has been tried too many times with continued inconsistency. It's time we let Pujara, Rahane and Tiwary get their due.

i'm confused... Is this a night test match? Its 11:20 PM here in the West Indies and the scorecard is ticking along

Good showing with the ball by West Indies 'A' today. Well done boys. Unlikely hero with the ball in young Carter, a nice surprise to see him among the wickets with his skiddy medium pacers. Now build a decent second innings score tomorrow, and set India 'A' up with a tricky chase on the fourth and final day. Shaping up to be a good game this one.

Rohit misses yet another century..Out on 94. India A 228/8..Both Rahane & Mukund gone for ducks.

i think that they should r shrama is a good leg spinner and should be choesn in india ODI team or for the T20 world cup and rohit should come to replace dravid because they do not have a better batsman also they should send kohli before rohit in the test i think they should give rohit a chance in a test match or india

Posted by   on (June 3, 2012, 19:55 GMT)

i think that rohit should come in at 3 because he will have longer time at the creass

I'm still not convinced with Mukund. Yet another duck for him. He seems to do well in domestic cricket but looks rather uncomfortable at the international scene.

WI, keep a closer eye on Permaul. He is knocking at the door real fast. Would someone in the WICB, Sagicor, Guyana, or could there be a volunteer to help Bishoo with his batting. I know he made good scores before and he even has a century in his name. To get back in the WI team, you have to bat better.

Hope Rohit gets a ton here and makes it to the Indian Test Squad ,

wouldn't it still be the WI B side coz if da main side wer at da ipl, dat means dat da A side is in england getting rolled and dis is the B side.

Posted by   on (June 3, 2012, 10:01 GMT)

this is match between India A side and WI C side. . . WI main players played ipl, now the B side is playing in England. . . therefore making this C side!

common guyz plz give the comm

Posted by SNIFFLEATHER on (June 3, 2012, 9:21 GMT)

252 is lower than the Windies 'A' boys would have wanted, but hopefully the new ball pair of "Sprint" (Delorn Johnson, left arm quickie), and the giant Jason Holder can provide some inroads, before Bishoo and the skipper get to work on a wicket that is already turning. Good luck WI 'A'!

Another Indian fast bowler does well. Well done Shami Ahmed. Keep up the good work....

decent day for the indians. Hope that the tweakers, Rahul and co. , put on a good performance and increase the pressure on the current mainline spinners, Ash and ojha..Inclusion of Varun Aaron would have made more sense, i believe, as he would have got a big chance to showcase what he can offer other than pace. Any idea why Kulkarni and Nechim werent selected?? Poor Ranji season??

Posted by Azweer on (June 3, 2012, 8:55 GMT)

I dont mind if its Pujara/Rohit/Tiwary i wish Rahane & Mukund a great cheers.... Next Viru-Gauti for the Indian Test side

Posted by Azweer on (June 3, 2012, 8:52 GMT)

i see Shami ahmed and Bhuvaneshwar kumar as future perspective of Indian pace army... hope they make an Impact in West indies pitches, where Indians always struggle to bowl and bat....

Excited to see India's next-in-line in action, hope the batsman now keep up the good work and snatch up a good lead.
