2.2 to MJ Guptill, full length angled in towards off stump, Guptill plays forward and edges to second slip! There it is, James Anderson's 400th Test wicket, becomes the 12th man to reach the mark and the eighth quick bowler. Classic Anderson, a little bit of movement to take a thick outside edge that flew quickly above head height to Ian Bell who shelled a couple of chances at Lord's but there's no mistake here and he clings on well, England have an early breakthrough and Anderson has his milestone, what an achievement. 2/1
2.4 to KS Williamson, got him! Similar line, Williamson has a nibble and edges behind! A huge wicket to take so early. An inch or so outside off, Williamson forced to play at it and got a little touch through to Buttler who took an easy catch. What a start for Anderson. Just enough away movement yet again to take the outside edge. Williamson was desperately trying to keep the bat inside the line but couldn't do so in time. 2/2
17.1010956.346516201
14.6 to LRPL Taylor, padding up! Won't be reviewing that! Full, outside off, nips back off a length, Taylor is shouldering arms very early and gets taken right in front of off stump. Considerable seam movement, but was always a dodgy leave. 68/3
54.6 to TWM Latham, caught this time! No hundred for Latham. And it's Cook's stand-in, Root, who snaffles the catch at first slip. Full outside off, lured him into the drive. Blimey, how England that. Ends an important innings, but he struggled for the last half hour. 264/6
56.2 to L Ronchi, it's worked! He could not have picked out fine leg any better if he had 10 more attempts. A short ball, on leg stump, and Ronchi just hooks it straight to the man.. 265/7
66.6 to MJ Henry, short again, Henry swipes again... and gets a top edge through to the keeper! England succeed with their plan to bounce out the No. 10, having taken a bit of collateral damage. 310/9
72.1 to TA Boult, length outside off, Boult carves it straight up in the air... and Lyth positions himself safely under it at point. Boult's happy slap is over, the fourth NZ batsman to have scored at more than a run a ball. Broad finishes with the peculiar figures of 5 for 109 from just 17.1 overs. 350/10
1446224.426313000
30.5 to BJ Watling, oh I say, what a beauty! Bowled him with a corker! Nips away past the outside edge and trims off stump, the perfect delivery for the seam bowler. Watling defending in the crease can do little about this, some seam movement has beaten his stroke and rattled the top of off stump. Deliveries don't come too much better than that. 144/5
60.2 to TG Southee, another wicket for a short ball! Lyth takes a catch on his home ground in front of the Western Terrace. Banged in short by Wood, the trap was set, and Southee couldn't resist. Neither could he keep it down, or get the distance to clear the boundary at deep square leg. 281/8
1747014.117311100
25.1 to BB McCullum, oh goodness me. Full just outside off and this slapped straight to mid-off! A dolly catch to Wood. Live by the sword, die by the sword but this is silly. Full length just outside off, McCullum greedily leans in for a big off drive but doesn't time it all and pops up a simple catch. 123/4

80.3 to GS Ballance, done him! That was on the cards. Full, straightens on Ballance who is nowhere near and is castled. For now, New Zealand have worked Ballance out. Lovely stuff from Boult. 238/3
86.2 to BA Stokes, and another! Boult fully deserves this. Been a wonderful spell. Forces Stokes to play at a short of a length delivery and Craig grabs a sharp chance above his head at second slip. 247/5
3058342.761389020
81.2 to JE Root, a ripper! This game is wide open! Southee gets it dead right. On off stump, shaping away under cloudy skies, takes a thick edge and Ronchi snaffles a neat catch to his right. 239/4
89.2 to IR Bell, got him! Early wicket. The ball is swinging, lovely stuff from Southee but, again, loose from Bell very early on in the day. Full outside off, draws Bell forward and the healthy edge carries low to Craig at second slip. Bell's lean time continues. 257/6
93.3 to JC Buttler, edged and gone! Precision stuff from the New Zealand bowlers and the edges keep coming. In the channel outside off, just straightens on Buttler and a regulation edge carries to Taylor at first slip. 266/7
93.6 to MM Ali, England falling in pile this morning! Pushed one across Moeen who feels for it outside off and this time it's an edge low to third slip, where Martin Guptill is the man with safe hands. 267/8
20.249214.529216120
108.2 to SCJ Broad, and that is that! A full, straight delivery does the job. Broad misses a heave to the leg side. 350/10
26124821.841336100
58.6 to AN Cook, full on the stumps and Cook sweeps, hit on the front pad... Umpire Ravi shakes his head, McCullum calls for the review and this looks like it will be close. It was tossed up on middle, straightened as Cook played across the line... This is going to be out, struck bang in front and going on to hit the top of middle, Hawk-Eye is red, red, red. The decision is overturned and NZ have their first wicket. 177/1
101.6 to MA Wood, and he's done it! Wood trying to cut a ball outside off, was bowled a little quicker, and gets a thin edge through to Ronchi. 318/9

67.4 to L Ronchi, length ball just outside off, Ronchi pushes at it and nicks behind! Anderson strikes and that's an important wicket. Ronchi reaching away from his body and gets a healthy edge to Buttler. Ronchi was going well and Anderson has ended this latest flurry, fine debut for Ronchi really but he followed this and nicked off. 315/6
81.2 to BJ Watling, vicious! Fantastic catch! But England's top order won't like the sight of that delivery leaping from back of a length. Reared up at Watling, squared him up as he tried to defended, flew to the right of Root at third slip and was dying on him, too, but he plucked it low to the ground. 368/7
1619425.87589400
5.5 to TWM Latham, he's got one now! Short of a length outside off, nips back into Latham and cramps him for him as he tries to cut, appears to take the glove and carries low to Buttler. Came back quite sharply at the left hander. 15/1
9.4 to KS Williamson, another for Broad! Almost identical dismissal to the first innings (different bowler, of course). Just pushing outside off, a thin edge carries low to the keeper. Was short of a length, he could have left this, drawn away from his body. He'll be livid. 23/2
1929735.107214000
24.1 to LRPL Taylor, strikes first ball! Taylor leans outside off for a drive and chips it to extra-cover where Stokes takes a catch coming forward! There's the breakthrough and a tame end for Taylor having played so well. Total miscue on the drive, no timing at all, and a weak way to get out and end a rollocking partnership. 122/3
28.4 to MJ Guptill, full length a foot outside off, this is driven at and taken at third slip! Joe Root - who replaced Ballance in the cordon - take the chance at chest height to his left hand side with two hands. Solid take, that came quickly and a vital wicket. Great delivery, full enough to draw Guptill out to play at it, Wood got it to straighten a little and take a thick outside edge. 141/4
60.4 to BB McCullum, brings one back and this strikes the pad, appeal for lbw and given out! Has Wood made the breakthrough? McCullum reviews umpire Ravi's decision. Is it too high? There's no bat involved, beaten on the inside edge, Hawk Eye has it trimming the leg bail! A marginal one but the decision stays with umpire Ravi. Wood's probing against McCullum has done the trick, he has hurried him and cramped him up, here this came back again at the pads to beat the inside edge and caught him around the knee roll but umpire Ravi thought it would hit the stumps and Hawk Eye backed him up, just. 262/5
1216105.08446200
1607314.56574300
89.6 to TG Southee, picks out long-on, Southee trying to loft a full delivery straight down the ground but doesn't get the distance or elevation to clear Anderson near the rope. 435/8

16.6 to A Lyth, tighter line, Lyth trying to defend off the back foot and nicks behind! A beauty, feather edge to the keeper and there's the opening breakthrough in just the fourth over of the morning. Tight enough to off stump for Lyth to want to try and defend it but some away swing defeated him but for a slither of outside edge to Ronchi, a fine delivery but perhaps Lyth could have left it. 47/1
24.6 to GS Ballance, goes for the inswinger again and this time gets it through! Another fine piece of bowling, it swung in, flicked the back bat and deflected into the off stump. The change-up deceiving Ballance, late swing beating the inside edge and it flicks the pad onto the timbers and that's another failure for Ballance. A decent nut again from Boult but you fancy Cook, watching a bit more closely, might have kept this out. 61/2
1874312.38906010
85.4 to MA Wood, touch fuller, a tighter line too, draws Wood forward who edges to second slip! Solid catch taken and the new ball does the trick with Southee coming up with a nice delivery. A couple of short ones before a full-length a shade outside off, moved away just enough to take a thick outside edge and it carried low to second slip who got down well to take a smart catch. 230/9
31.5127332.2916612100
27.4 to IR Bell, length ball turns down the leg side and Bell deflects it to leg slip! That is very poor from Bell and New Zealand now have a third and are on the way to victory. An innocuous length ball that tuned into Bell's pads, Bell is playing a nothing dab towards the leg side and literally guided it into the hands of Kane Williamson at leg slip who took a smart catch down low to his left but that is very naive batting from Bell and indicative of the poor form he is in. 62/3
27.6 to JE Root, another turn to leg and this is now taken at short leg! Hoho, what a catch, this has come straight off the face of the bat and Tom Latham has taken it straight on the chest before clinging on. Slightly fortunate really but a fine grab nevertheless. Root touched it away firmly but straight into the fielder. 62/4
91.5 to JC Buttler, length aorund off stump, left alone, oh dear it's the arm ball and given out lbw! That will do it. Buttler may as well review but this looks dead and indeed Hawk Eye has it going on to hit off stump. A smart bit of bowling finishes the job. He turned two down the leg side, Buttler shouldering arms thinking this would do the same but it goes on straight with the arm and caught Buttler out. 255/10
1224914.085510010
62.2 to MM Ali, he's left it alone! No Headingley heroics from Moeen this year. Angled in on a length from round the wicket and a horrid misjudgement as the off stump gets clattered. Was too full and too straight to be leaving. 153/7
711532.14342000
43.5 to BA Stokes, quicker outside off, Stokes rocks back to cut and edges behind! This has skidded on and bounced a little and taken a thin top edge to Ronchi who has clung on very well there and just when England were on the stroke of getting to lunch in some shape, New Zealand strike again and the chance to Williamson works. Stokes trying to capitalise on a bit of width has been undone by a bit of bounce. 102/5
57.3 to AN Cook, slides one in towards off stump and this given out lbw! Williamson again! Cook goes for the review, he has to really but this looks good, sliding on past the inside edge, catching the pad half-way up and looks in line with the off stump and is surely going on to hit. Umpire's call on both, Cook almost got outside the line but not enough, Hawk Eye also had it only hitting the bails but enough to keep the decision with umpire Ravi, live it looked a very good shout. 141/6
73.1 to SCJ Broad, dragged on! Williamson again! What a day he is having. A shorter delivery outside off, Broad looking to force it through the off side and can only manage to bottom edge it into the stumps. Just as Broad played the shot it was like a little sandstorm around Broad as the wind blew up a load of dust. 188/8
