Shoaib Malik put his derailed international career back on track with his first century for six years. He lifted Pakistan to a crucial victory on their return to one-day cricket following the shock 3-0 defeat in Bangladesh. Azhar Ali, continuing his sumptuous form since taking on the captaincy, made a slick start in an opening stand of 170 in 26 overs with Mohammad Hafeez. Malik and Haris Sohail built on that with 201 in the last 23, guiding Pakistan to their second-highest ODI total, and highest at home. It was the first time four batsmen had all made 70 or more in an ODI innings. Zimbabwe stayed in touch until their captain Chigumbura, who profited from two drops to make his first century in his 174th ODI, was yorked by Wahab Riaz, bowling with venom at the death. Only three men had played more ODIs before scoring their first hundred: Shaun Pollock (285th), Mark Boucher (220th), and Steve Waugh (187th). In conditions where the other pace bowlers were travelling at seven an over, Wahab finished with 3-47. To make things worse for Zimbabwe, Chigumbura was suspended for the next two games for a slow over-rate.
