New Zealand v Sri Lanka, 2015-16

At Christchurch (Hagley Oval), December 26, 2015. New Zealand won by seven wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. One-day international debut: H. M. Nicholls.
Ten months on from the World Cup opener, the two combatants from that chilly, giddy afternoon reconvened at the same venue. New Zealand won again, but even more emphatically, roaring into top gear as Sri Lanka stalled. A festive crowd of 8,200 basked on the hill, and saw the contest effectively decided inside ten overs. With Trent Boult and Tim Southee both rested, Mathews opted to bat first - but the young tearaways did the damage. Bowling full and shaping the ball away, Henry - whose opening spell on his home ground was 7-1-26-4 - and Milne reduced Sri Lanka to 27 for five. There was no way back, although Siriwardene and Kulasekara put on 98 to lift the total near to 200. New Zealand sensed an early finish, and 108 came from the first ten overs. Guptill hit four sixes in his 79 from 56 balls, while McCullum slammed a trademark 55 off 25, with 50 in boundaries. It was left to Henry Nicholls, the local left-hander on international debut, to finish things off with successive fours off Ajantha Mendis, and 29 overs to spare.
Man of the Match: M. J. Henry.
