At Sydney, December 26. England won by four wickets. After the Chappell brothers had dominated the Australian innings, Boycott made sure of England"s victory with another outstanding performance. His unbeaten 86 was made against the background noise of a speedway meeting and a giant firework display in the adjoining Sydney Showground. Willey joined in a second-wicket stand of 111 in 25 overs before a collapse saw five wickets go down for the addition of 27. Bairstow joined Boycott to secure victory with eleven balls to spare in a match reduced to 47 overs per side.
