At Leeds, June, 8. Australia won by 71 runs, their comfortable victory giving them the Prudential Trophy by two matches to one, an unexpected success for a side that had played little cricket since their arrival in England on May 12 and with no particular liking for the one-day game. On a pitch of some pace and bounce Wood provided the foundation of a satisfactory Australian total. His 108 won him the Man of the Match award. When England set out to score 237 to win, they were soon playing and missing with much regularity. Although 62 for one at tea, after only fourteen overs, they were 95 for five not long afterwards and heading for a defeat that came as a boost to the Australians as the Cornhill Tests approached. The attendance was 12,800 and the takings £61,250.
