Third One-day International

†PAKISTAN v SRI LANKA 1981-82

At Karachi, March 31. Pakistan won by five wickets. Both captains were unfit, Zaheer and Mendis deputising, and Pakistan, winning the toss, put Sri Lanka in. Goonatillake left early, but once the opening bowlers were withdrawn, after six overs, the batsmen had little difficulty in keeping the score moving. However, Sri Lanka lost their last four wickets in thirteen balls for 7 runs. Mudassar and Mohsin soon put Pakistan on top, and Mansoor Akhtar helped maintain the scoring-rate despite some economical bowling by Ranasinghe. When Imran joined Wasim Raja, 49 runs were needed off the last ten overs, but Sri Lanka lost their last chance when Wasim Raja, then 11, was dropped at long-on off De Mel.

Man of the Match: Mudassar Nazar.
