At Birmingham, June 11, 12. New Zealand won by 52 runs. Put in when play started at 1.45, New Zealand were reduced to 120 for five by the fine leg-spin bowling of Qadir, but recovered during an interrupted afternoon to finish the day with 211 for eight in 56 overs. Next morning they added 27 runs before, in the first eight balls from Hadlee and Cairns, Mohsin, Mudassar and Zaheer were dismissed for no score. From this remarkable start Pakistan never recovered against accurate bowling by Coney, Hadlee and Cairns.
