At Southampton, June 16. Australia won by 32 runs. Though their off-spinner, Traicos, who played for South Africa in 1970, again bowled economically, Zimbabwe could not stop Australia from making 272 for seven which, when Zimbabwe were 109 for five and falling below the required rate, seemed ample. However, Houghton added 103 in seventeen overs with Curran and was batting well enough to suggest that the final 61 in eight overs was within his side's powers. At that point Chappell and Hogg took four wickets for 1 run.
Man of the Match: D. L. Houghton.
