1983 World Cup - Group A

ENGLAND v PAKISTAN

At Manchester, June 18. England won by seven wickets. England qualified for the semi-final with a comfortable victory over Pakistan, whose 232 for eight never seemed likely to be enough on a pitch of mild pace. Efficient bowling and fielding pinned down the early Pakistan batsmen, and just as Miandad was promising an acceleration, a fine throw from Botham ran him out. Fowler and Tavaré launched England's innings with the minimum of disquiet, and by the time Fowler was first out at 115 he had set England on the path to victory.

Man of the Match: G. Fowler.
