At Hyderabad, September 10. India won by four wickets. Winning the toss was largely contributory to India's success. It gave them the right to bowl first on a damp, grassy pitch off which the ball both deviated and bounced erratically, and despite an audacious 20 by Zaheer, Pakistan were 36 for four before Miandad, supported only by Wasim Bari, revived them with a brave and responsible 66 not out. An unbeaten 60 in the same mould by Amarnath steered India home, with three overs to spare, after they had been in trouble when Mudassar took three wickets in quick succession to reduce them to 81 for four.
Man of the Match: M. Amarnath.
