†INDIA v WEST INDIES 1983-84

At Jamshedpur, December 7. West Indies won by 104 runs. Coming together at 27, Greenidge and Richards gave an enthralling exhibition of batsmanship, adding 221 for the second wicket at more than 7 an over. The partnership was a tribute to an exquisite pitch. Richards scored his first 50 from only 31 balls and his final score of 149, from 99 balls, included twenty 4s and three 6s. Greenidge hit ten 4s and five 6s in his 115. India, facing the almost impossible task of 7.4 runs an over, were heavily beaten, though they lost with dignity after Gavaskar and Malhotra had put on 105 for the third wicket in 21 overs.
