First One-day International

SRI LANKA v NEW ZEALAND 1983-84

At Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, March 3. New Zealand won by 104 runs, despite their limited preparation. After making 80 (two 6s, two 4s) in 79 balls Reid was treated for heat exhaustion. Howarth relinquished his middle-order position to open for New Zealand. After Wettimuny and Kuruppu had put on 54 in even time for Sri Lanka's first wicket, their middle and lower order folded against Hadlee's pace and Boock's orthodox left-arm spin.

Man of the Match: J. F. Reid.
