First One-day International

†NEW ZEALAND v WEST INDIES 1986-87

At Dunedin, March 18. West Indies won by 95 runs. A magnificent all-round performance by Richards, who became the first player to score a hundred and take five wickets in a one-day international, overshadowed all else. His 119, made from 113 balls with four sixes and ten fours, was his ninth at this level and his partnership of 120 with Hooper lifted West Indies from a shaky start after they had been put in. Hooper batted impressively on his international début. New Zealand never looked like getting close to their target as Richards captured his five wickets, mainly with slow-medium swing.

Man of the Match: I. V. A. Richards.
