Fifth One-day International

†INDIA v PAKISTAN 1986-87

At Nagpur, March 24. Pakistan won by 41 runs. Miandad and Imran (65 balls) put together a superlative stand of 142 to pull Pakistan from a crisis in the only match in which Kapil Dev won the toss and inserted Pakistan. Even so, India's target might still have been manageable but for an unbeaten 48 off 21 balls by Wasim Akram; he took 25 (266641) off one over by Chetan Sharma. Gavaskar (102 balls) and Shastri (39 balls) raised Indian hopes as they lashed out in a stand of 76 in defiance of an asking-rate which had climbed to 8 an over, but once past that threat Pakistan claimed the series 4-1 with one match remaining.

Man of the Match: Wasim Akram.
