INDIA v SRI LANKA

At Cuttack, December 28. Sri Lanka won by 36 runs. Toss: Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's new-found confidence in the one-day game brought them a second victory over India in three weeks. Openers Senanayake and Tillekeratne gave them a steady start, which was built on with a fourth-wicket partnership of 73 from Gurusinha and the captain, Ranatunga. Although the tail folded fairly quickly they were able to set a target of 215, to which India proved quite unequal. The fielding of Jayasuriya accounted for both Shastri and Manjrekar, and he also picked up the wicket of Azharuddin, who made his 40 from 61 balls. India's chances of recovery were dashed when Ratnayake, who finished with three for 24, bowled Kapil Dev after he had hit a 35-ball 32.

Man of Match: A. Ranatunga.
