AUSTRALIA v INDIA

At Sydney, January 14 (day/night). Australia won by nine wickets. Toss: India. Assured of a place in the final, Australia included the uncapped seamer, Reiffel, at the expense of a batsman of no less repute than Jones. As first change, Reiffel neutralised India's solid, if slow, start, removing Shastri and Srikkanth after the visitors' only half-century opening stand in the tournament. Within three overs India were 69 for three. Tendulkar and Azharuddin prevented total disintegration. But Australia were under no pressure and cantered home with more than ten overs to spare.

Man of the Match: C. J. McDermott. Attendance: 28,824.
