Srinath took five wickets in a one-day international for the first time and only Mahanama, who batted for two and a half hours, made a significant score for Sri Lanka. Though Raman was l. b. w. to his first ball, a 100-run stand between Kambli and Azharuddin ensured that India had few problems.
