Third One-Day International

ENGLAND v AUSTRALIA

Toss: England. International debut: B. C. Hollioake.

England made a clean sweep of the series with their third consecutive six-wicket victory. Every match began with Atherton winning the toss and ended with a stroke from Adam Hollioake. But it was Adam's 19-year-old brother Ben who stole the show here, on his debut, as he thrilled Lord's with an audacious half-century. Australia, captained by Steve Waugh because Taylor had dropped himself, had set England 270, their most demanding target yet, despite a five-wicket haul by Gough. Hollioake junior made his entrance when the reply stood at 21 for one, and drove his third ball back past McGrath for four. He lasted just 45 more balls, but some glorious strokes - including a swept six off Warne - and some streaky edges had already taken him to 63, with another ten fours. England still needed 157 when he fell, but the run-rate was down to five an over. Stewart, Crawley and Thorpe cruised along with few alarms.

Man of the Match: D. Gough. Attendance: 24,951; receipts £874,236.

Men of the Series: A. J. Hollioake and M. G. Bevan.
