NEW ZEALAND v PAKISTAN 1988-89

At Dunedin, February 6. New Zealand won by eight wickets. Toss: New Zealand. This match was played on the scheduled fourth day of the abandoned First Test. On a pitch which at times had an alarmingly variable bounce, only Salim Malik prospered when Pakistan were put in, playing some splendid strokes in making 83 from 98 balls with nine fours and two sixes. Hadlee, notwithstanding conceding 14 in one over to Salim Malik, was unplayable at times, and Snedden, Chatfield and Watson all had the ball lifting almost head high. Wright and Vance shared an opening partnership of 73, and with Jones his usual imperturbable self in scoring another one-day half-century, New Zealand ran out comfortable winners.
