Bangladesh v Sri Lanka 1999-2000

At Dhaka, May 28, 29 (day/night). Sri Lanka won by nine wickets. Toss: Sri Lanka. International debut: K. Weeraratne.

After heavy rain had delayed the match by 24 hours, Bangladesh struggled for runs in overcast conditions. Vaas's tight opening burst undermined them, and they were 27 for three in the 12th over when captain Aminul Islam was removed by medium-pacer Kaushalya Weeraratne's fifth ball in international cricket. Javed Omar and Akram Khan then added 75 for the fourth wicket. Javed, whose fighting 85 was his maiden international half-century, became the first Bangladesh batsman to bat through a completed innings. Needing just 176, Sri Lanka pushed de Silva to the top of the order, where he destroyed Bangladesh with a dazzling 96 in 93 balls, hitting three sixes and 13 fours.

Man of the Match: P. A. de Silva.
