Singer Triangular Series, 2000

Sri Lanka v South Africa 2000

At Galle, July 6. Sri Lanka won by 37 runs. Toss: South Africa.

Sangakkara showed maturity beyond his years when he rescued his side from a shaky start with a stroke-filled 85 from 115 balls (11 fours). He and another left-hander, Arnold, with 59 off 70 balls, added 120 for the fifth wicket. Even so, a final total of 249 looked insufficient when South Africa's opening partnership of Kirsten and Hall put on 150. Then Muralitharan bowled Kirsten and, as magnificent Sri Lankan fielding helped put the brakes on the remaining batting, South Africa lost their next nine wickets for 62. Hall's fine 81 off 114 balls included three sixes and six fours.

Man of the Match: K. Sangakkara.
