Standard Bank Triangular Series, match 7

South Africa v India

At East London, October 19 (day/night). South Africa won by 46 runs. South Africa 4 pts. Toss: South Africa.

Gibbs made another flying start, hammering 47 off 41 balls, but it was Dippenaar who gave the innings substance. In complete command, he looked set for a maiden one-day international century before trying an ambitious pull in the 40th over. This brought Rhodes and Klusener together, and their potent mix of dash and crash added 79 in 11 overs. Yet with Ganguly in domineering mood and Tendulkar cantering at a run a ball, India had a chance. They put on 101 inside 16 overs - their 15th century opening partnership. But after Tendulkar was bowled off a bottom edge and Ganguly superbly caught by Kallis at long-on, the middle order folded again. Poor calling and electric fielding resulted in three run-outs. The win guaranteed South Africa's place in the final; India still needed to beat Kenya in their last game.

Man of the Match: S. C. Ganguly.
