Third One-Day International

Zimbabwe v West Indies

Tony Cozier and John Ward

At Harare, November 26, 2003. Zimbabwe won by 21 runs. Toss: West Indies.

Another mediocre performance by the disorganised West Indians helped Zimbabwe take a 2-1 lead, in a victory of discipline over flair. Zimbabwe should have exceeded 229 - they had five wickets in hand - but again started by playing safe. Vermeulen made the early running, with 66 in 70 balls, while Streak reached his tenth one-day fifty, surprisingly only his second in Zimbabwe. He and Taibu accelerated with 90 in 14 overs, but the target was well within West Indian capabilities.

Gayle and Lara looked set to take them home, until Streak dismissed Lara with another superb yorker. They faltered, recovered, then faltered again as an ill-judged stroke by Samuels cost him his wicket; Powell fell next ball and after that Zimbabwe kept their grip.

Man of the Match: H. H. Streak.
