At Jaipur, October 11, 2006 (day/night). West Indies won by ten wickets. West Indies 2 pts. Toss: Bangladesh.

West Indies strolled through to the main competition, although Bangladesh threatened to make a game of it for a time: in the 20th over, they were 95 for one, but then lost their last nine wickets for just 66. The sprightly Aftab Ahmed and the more stoical Shahriar Nafees put on 85 before both attempted big hits off Samuels's flat off-spin. Bravo took three for 14 in ten overs, his best one-day figures, after Collymore took two wickets in two balls. The West Indian openers were utterly untroubled by the Bangladesh attack. Gayle took 11 balls to get off the mark, but then took flight, reaching his 13th one-day century three balls before victory. West Indies' walk in the park was witnessed by another paltry crowd: even the organisers' ploy of foisting a ticket for this game on those who had paid in advance to see England play India the following Sunday failed to persuade many of them to turn up.

Man of the Match: C. H. Gayle.
