First ODI

Pakistan in Bangladesh, 2011-12

Utpal Shuvro

At Mirpur, December 1, 2011 (day/night). First one-day international: Pakistan won by five wickets. Bangladesh 91 (30.3 overs) (Shahid Afridi 5-21); Pakistan 93-5 (25.4 overs). MoM: Shahid Afridi.

Pakistan seemed to be cruising when the openers added 36 in pursuit of a meagre target - but four wickets went down in successive overs, for only eight runs, and suddenly the match was alive. The fifth fell at 63 and, had Shahriar Nafees not dropped Shahid Afridi at slip, it would have been 66-6. Afridi made the most of his escape: his 24 was the highest score on a turner, although his more decisive role had been with the ball - his fourth five-for of the year skittled Bangladesh for their third sub-100 total in nine months.
