Second Twenty20

Pakistan v Australia, 2012

Osman Samiuddin

At Dubai, September 7, 2012 (floodlit). Pakistan won after an eliminator over, following a tie. Toss: Pakistan. Twenty20 international debut: M. A. Starc.

The best match of the tour, watched by the loudest, biggest crowd on a weekend night, ended in one of those unsatisfying one-over eliminators which nobody deserves to lose. In it, Umar Akmal and Abdul Razzaq chased down the 12 runs needed - if chased is the right word. Nasir Jamshed, Mohammad Hafeez and Kamran Akmal had earlier given Pakistan a total they were confident of defending, especially after Australia's performance two nights before. And once Watson and Warner had gone, it looked as if they would indeed defend it. But Bailey played his most captainly innings yet - on his 30th birthday - perishing only to the first ball of the last over (and Abdul Razzaq's first of the tour). The game looked gone, but Cummins struck a monstrous six over long-on to level the scores off the penultimate delivery, only to be caught at mid-off from the last.

Man of the Match: Saeed Ajmal.
