Commentator

Ron Halcombe was a genuinely fast bowler from South Australia who moved to Perth after one season at Adelaide and terrorised batsmen for more than a decade thereafter. There were major concerns over his action - in 1931-32 he was once no-balled for throwing on six consecutive deliveries - and complaints that he deliberately set out to intimidate. The potential problems were limited as Western Australia were not in the Sheffield Shield. He was never selected for Australia - in fairness, he was expensive - although there were calls for his inclusion in 1932-33 as a counter weapon to England's pace barrage. After the war be became a commentator for ABC.
