A right-arm offspinner and right-hand batsman, Paul Nicholls played 19 first-class matches for Western Australia throughout the 1970s. His peak came in 1971-72, when he collected eight wickets on debut against South Australia at the Adelaide Oval, including a career-best 5 for 68 in the second innings. Also a talented Australian Rules footballer, Nicholls played in a Western Australian Football League premiership with East Fremantle in 1974. His talents were not confined to the sporting arena. Nicholls went on to have a successful legal career and worked as a magistrate in Western Australia before he died in 2009 following a long battle with cancer.
