TEAMS

A hard-hitting batsman and part-time wicketkeeper, George Arlington was a force in Sussex club cricket where he made more than 100 hundreds, including 309 for Sheffield Park against Nutley in 1897. He found county cricket a tougher nut to crack, making only one fifty in 50 innings. The exact details of his death are unknown, but David Frith in his book Silence Of The Heart recounts how Arlington wandered off into the Australian bush in 1940 in the knowledge that he would die. His body was never found.
