Edwards to Katich, OUT, Gone this time! The first wicket of the series goes to Fidel Edwards. He hurled that one full and outside off, it moved away a touch, Katich, on the shuffle, chased it, reaching out well away from the body and went for a square drive. Fatal. It flew off the outside edge to backward point.

SM Katich c Sammy b Edwards 12 (18m 11b 3x4 0x6) SR: 109.09

Australia 18/1   PA Jaques 2* (11b)   FH Edwards 1.4-0-9-1

Edwards to Jaques, OUT, Edwards strikes again. Traps Jaques in front of the middle stump. It landed on a length, on the leg stump and moved towards middle, Jaques was caught in the crease, tried to jab it to the leg side, bat was outside the line, though and made no contact. Hawk eye says it would have hit the top of the middle stump

PA Jaques lbw b Edwards 9 (37m 23b 1x4 0x6) SR: 39.13

Australia 37/2   RT Ponting 11* (11b 2x4)   FH Edwards 3.3-0-17-2

Jaggernauth to Hussey, OUT, Jaggie gets his first Test wicket! Bravo takes a sharp catch but again he was moving just after the bowler released. This time he moved to his left and Hussey jabbed at a flighted delivery that turned a little. It flew off the outside edge and Bravo stopped his movement and dived to his right to take a very sharp catch. Jaggernauth must be feeling a lot better now. A lovely little moment for him. First Test wicket.

MEK Hussey c Bravo b Jaggernauth 56 (186m 146b 6x4 0x6) SR: 38.35

Australia 174/3   RT Ponting 89* (121b 9x4)   AS Jaggernauth 9-0-28-1

Bravo to Ponting, OUT, What a stunner from Parchement at square leg. Ponting falls after a big knock. Bravo hurled across a bouncer, Ponting pulled and Parchment dived to his right to pluck a catch with his right hand. Ponting went past SM Gavaskar and Lara to score his 35 Test century and fell some eleven minutes before the scheduled close of play on the opening day. Ponting was surprised with the lift of that bouncer; he had to pull from front of his face, tried to get it down, couldn't and Parchment did the rest.

RT Ponting c Parchment b Bravo 158 (354m 224b 16x4 1x6) SR: 70.53

Australia 293/4   BJ Hodge 46* (103b 6x4)   DJ Bravo 14.1-2-47-1

Edwards to Hodge, OUT, Sharp catch from Ramdin. Hodge falls after making fifty. It kicked up from short of length, Hodge tried to cut it through backward point, it got big on him and flew off the outside edge. Ramdin dived to his right to pluck a fine catch

BJ Hodge c †Ramdin b Edwards 67 (212m 122b 9x4 1x6) SR: 54.91

Australia 326/5   MG Johnson 11* (29b 1x4)   FH Edwards 16.1-0-71-3

Sammy to Johnson, OUT, Johnson falls to the vagaries of the wicket. It stopped on him and Johnson was too early into his punch-drive, took his bottom-hand out but couldn't keep the ball down and sent a dolly to mid-on. Good fighting knock from him, though.

MG Johnson c Powell b Sammy 22 (113m 53b 3x4 0x6) SR: 41.50

Australia 350/6   A Symonds 13* (31b 3x4)   DJG Sammy 18.2-3-45-1

Sammy to Haddin, OUT, Haddin falls, going for the pull. It didn't climb as much as he thought and was well outside off as well and he got a thin nick.

BJ Haddin c †Ramdin b Sammy 11 (41m 35b 1x4 0x6) SR: 31.42

Australia 368/7   A Symonds 18* (57b 3x4)   DJG Sammy 23.3-6-52-2

Edwards to Lee, OUT, Bizarre! He was trying to duck into what he thought was a bouncer and is trapped in front! It was dug in short and he ducked but it hit him on his left thigh pad and would have hit top of the off I reckon. The pitch takes out another victim

B Lee lbw b Edwards 4 (8m 6b 1x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

Australia 383/8   A Symonds 29* (70b 5x4)   FH Edwards 21.4-2-88-4

Powell to Clark, OUT, Fab catch from Bravo to end Clark's resistance. Clark had suddenly got ambitious and drove on the up and it was dropping well to the right of mid-off but Bravo threw himself to hold a stunning diving catch

SR Clark c Bravo b Powell 3 (28m 16b 0x4 0x6) SR: 18.75

Australia 399/9   A Symonds 42* (91b 6x4)   DBL Powell 26.5-4-95-1

Edwards to MacGill, OUT, he is cleaned him up. Full, fast, straight and that does the trick. MacGill had a swing, missed and the timber is disturbed. Edwards gets five-for. Symonds left stranded on 72 but that innings has made sure that Australia end up on a very strong 431.

SCG MacGill b Edwards 2 (30m 12b 0x4 0x6) SR: 16.66

Australia 431/10   A Symonds 70* (115b 8x4 2x6)   FH Edwards 26.5-4-104-5
