Australia in West Indies ODI Series - 1st ODI

West Indies v Australia

Australia won by 84 runs

Greetings everyone and welcome to coverage of the 1st ODI between West Indies and Australia in Kingstown. The immediate news is that the returning Chris Gayle has won the toss and sent Australia in. No Shiv Chanderpaul for West Indies today but Gayle and Ramnaresh Sarwan will play.

Shaun Marsh is making his ODI debut, quite a few months it's been for him and he is opening the batting with Shane Watson.

0.1

Taylor to Marsh, no run, pushed into the covers first up

Right, time for the run-chase and the good news for West Indies is Marshall is opening the batting after hurting himself diving in the field

0.1

Taylor to Marsh, no run, Marshall turns Lee to midwicket and he's off the mark immediately

0.2

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, pushed up on off and middle and brushed into the midwicket region

0.2

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, Gayle leaves outside off

0.3

Taylor to Watson, 1 run, full delivery again with a hint of swing away, driven out to mid on and that's a wayward throw from Pollard

0.4

Taylor to Marsh, FOUR, on the front foot, driven straight through long off, lovely straight drive on the up

0.5

Taylor to Marsh, no run, forced it right across him, the batsman shoulders arms and lets it go through

0.6

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, outside off, a thick edge is controlled down to third man and Australia will be pleased with their first over having been sent in

End of over 1 (7 runs) Australia 7/0 (RR: 7.00)
SE Marsh    6* (5b 1x4)      JE Taylor    1-0-7-0
SR Watson    1* (1b)

Gayle to open from the other end

1.1

Gayle to Marsh, no run, oh, good start! Some movement away and the batsman shoulders arms

1.2

Gayle to Marsh, 1 run, pushed off the front foot in line with off and it's wristed into short midwicket

1.3

Gayle to Watson, no run, outside off, pushes it past the outside edge, the batsman presses forward on the front foot and it goes on through

1.4

Gayle to Watson, no run, outside off, played down into the gully area

1.5

Gayle to Watson, FOUR, poor delivery from Gayle gets the treatment, dragging it down on and outside leg and Watson isn't slow to pull hard round and through fine leg

1.6

Gayle to Watson, no run, down on one knee, pulled to square this time

End of over 2 (5 runs) Australia 12/0 (RR: 6.00)
SR Watson    5* (5b 1x4)      CH Gayle    1-0-5-0
SE Marsh    7* (7b 1x4)      JE Taylor    1-0-7-0

Taylor to continue

2.1

Taylor to Marsh, no run, forced across the left hander from over the wicket, some encouraging lift off the track as it angles awkwardly but the leave is well judged

2.2

Taylor to Marsh, no run, hurried across him once more, a touch flatter this time

A second slip comes in

2.3

Taylor to Marsh, no run, steps down the track and defends back down middle

2.4

Taylor to Marsh, no run, on the legs, squeezed to short midwicket and they think about running but in comes the call "No!"

2.5

Taylor to Marsh, no run, right past him this time, some good line and length there and just leaves the outside edge as the batsman gets on the back foot

2.6

Taylor to Marsh, FOUR, some width outside off and driven hard through the covers - a touch of air in that drive which will encourage West Indies

End of over 3 (4 runs) Australia 16/0 (RR: 5.33)
SE Marsh    11* (13b 2x4)      JE Taylor    2-0-11-0
SR Watson    5* (5b 1x4)      CH Gayle    1-0-5-0

The Australia players are wearing ribbons on their shirts and there was a minute's silence earlier in memory of Glenn McGrath's wife Jane who died at the weekend. Change of bowling now, Edwards to replace Gayle who had opened the bowling for only the third time in ODIs

3.1

Edwards to Watson, 1 leg bye, on the legs, squeezed down to fine leg, somehow finding room

3.2

Edwards to Marsh, no run, fired across him, some swing back in to the left hander who gets right over the ball in front-foot defence just outside off

3.3

Edwards to Marsh, no run, outside off, the batsman shoulders arms this time

3.4

Edwards to Marsh, 2 runs, sends it wider to tempt him into a loose shot, instead Marsh gets hold of a cover drive

3.5

Edwards to Marsh, 1 run, some swing back in, straight, but the batsman manages to press forward, a mere caress

3.6

Edwards to Watson, 2 runs, bangs it in and Watson turns it well off his legs behind square

Good start for Australia

End of over 4 (6 runs) Australia 22/0 (RR: 5.50)
SR Watson    7* (7b 1x4)      FH Edwards    1-0-5-0
SE Marsh    14* (17b 2x4)      JE Taylor    2-0-11-0

4.1

Taylor to Marsh, no run, oh, squares right behind that one and the batsman's beaten as the ball pitches on middle and deviates off past the off stump

4.2

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, he gets bat on it this time, opening the face and running it down to third man

4.3

Taylor to Watson, 1 run, pushed off the front foot down to the gully

4.4

Taylor to Marsh, FOUR, short ball outside off and pulled straight through mid on, a good shot, into it quickly and lifted into safety

4.5

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, outside off, the batsman runs it down to third man once again

4.6

Taylor to Watson, 1 wide, wide down the leg side this time

4.6

Taylor to Watson, 1 run, some swing in on off, pushed forward gently and they charge through the quick single

End of over 5 (9 runs) Australia 31/0 (RR: 6.20)
SR Watson    9* (9b 1x4)      JE Taylor    3-0-20-0
SE Marsh    20* (21b 3x4)      FH Edwards    1-0-5-0

5.1

Edwards to Watson, 1 run, some swing and width outside off, runs it down to third man

5.2

Edwards to Marsh, no run, dragged it down a touch short and brushed into the leg side

5.3

Edwards to Marsh, 3 runs, brushed off the legs out to square and some excellent running to get back in, really making the most of the runs on offer

5.4

Edwards to Watson, 2 runs, driven out very straight right through the stumps and it's just to say stopped inside the rope - the ball slowed up a touch by crashing on to the sticks at the non-striker's end

5.5

Edwards to Watson, FOUR, width outside off, some swing away and Watson is tempted into having a slay away from his body, the ball going from the base of the bat up and over point, squarer than he was aiming for

Frustration is just the half of it for Edwards

5.6

Edwards to Watson, no run, on the front foot, pushed down to gully

Another expensive over, this pair having done so well in the IPL recently of course and showing no signs of slowing down in the 50-over match here

End of over 6 (10 runs) Australia 41/0 (RR: 6.83)
SR Watson    16* (13b 2x4)      FH Edwards    2-0-15-0
SE Marsh    23* (23b 3x4)      JE Taylor    3-0-20-0

Dwayne Bravo into the attack now to see if he can make the breakthrough. Nothing's slowed them so far

6.1

Bravo to Marsh, 1 run, on the legs and eased off the hips down to fine leg

6.2

Bravo to Watson, 1 run, short and wide outside off, cut into the covers off the back foot

6.3

Bravo to Marsh, 1 run, on the legs, and picked off quite easily to midwicket, the strike rotated once more

6.4

Bravo to Watson, 2 runs, on middle and leg, played out to square and they come back for the easy two

6.5

Bravo to Watson, no run, outside off, the ball goes through on a good length and left alone

6.6

Bravo to Watson, 1 wide, too wide outside off this time

6.6

Bravo to Watson, no run, outside off, the ball doesn't get up so much, Watson cuts it down into the track

End of over 7 (6 runs) Australia 47/0 (RR: 6.71)
SR Watson    19* (17b 2x4)      DJ Bravo    1-0-6-0
SE Marsh    25* (25b 3x4)      FH Edwards    2-0-15-0

Benn into the attack now, a fifth bowler coming on already as West Indies look to try to stem the flow of runs after Gayl (sic; it's how the scoreboard has him) decided to field first

7.1

Benn to Marsh, no run, starts over the wicket and puts the ball in line with off, a good length, defended forward

7.2

Benn to Marsh, no run, a touch straighter, and pushed to the on side now

7.3

Benn to Marsh, no run, some width outside off, pushed to short midwicket

7.4

Benn to Marsh, no run, drags it down a touch, but the loop is enough to make the batsman think of defending, pushing to the leg side

7.5

Benn to Marsh, 1 run, on the up now and the batsman pushes to mid on, there's a mix-up between Watson and Benn, the bowler falling over in follow-through and trapping Watson's bat under him. The batsman recovers, picks himself up and charges through the single

7.6

Benn to Watson, no run, round the wicket now and makes Watson think about it, beating his outside edge

Bowler and batsman share a giggle about the fifth ball of the over

End of over 8 (1 run) Australia 48/0 (RR: 6.00)
SR Watson    19* (18b 2x4)      SJ Benn    1-0-1-0
SE Marsh    26* (30b 3x4)      DJ Bravo    1-0-6-0

8.1

Bravo to Marsh, no run, on the legs, pushed out straightish to mid on although the initial movement looked like he was going to tuck off his hips

8.2

Bravo to Marsh, no run, down the legs and half an appeal from the keeper for a strangle down to the keeper, who took it in front of him

8.3

Bravo to Marsh, no run, short ball, pushed out to point

8.4

Bravo to Marsh, 1 run, wristed off the front foot out to square

8.5

Bravo to Watson, 1 run, another quick single

8.6

Bravo to Marsh, 1 run, run down to third man off the back foot

End of over 9 (3 runs) Australia 51/0 (RR: 5.66)
SE Marsh    28* (35b 3x4)      DJ Bravo    2-0-9-0
SR Watson    20* (19b 2x4)      SJ Benn    1-0-1-0

9.1

Benn to Marsh, no run, outside off, turned back in from over the wicket and the batsman pushes forward on the front foot

9.2

Benn to Marsh, no run, goes for the sweep this time, the batsman coming outside off stump but it doesn't go to his plan

9.3

Benn to Marsh, 2 runs, a fair push down the ground to long on and they come back for two

9.4

Benn to Marsh, no run, slower slow one this time, some wild movement back in from outside off forces the front-foot defence

9.5

Benn to Marsh, no run, more of the same

9.6

Benn to Marsh, no run, shuffles across his stumps once more and this time connects with the sweep only for his plans to be thwarted by the man at backward square leg

A useful opening ten overs for Australia

End of over 10 (2 runs) Australia 53/0 (RR: 5.30)
SE Marsh    30* (41b 3x4)      SJ Benn    2-0-3-0
SR Watson    20* (19b 2x4)      DJ Bravo    2-0-9-0

The second Powerplay will roll through now

10.1

Bravo to Watson, 1 run, nipped back in from outside off, the batsman pushes to short point and they jog through

10.2

Bravo to Marsh, SIX, short ball, straight and Marsh just steps back and pulls hard well through square, pure power and timing

10.3

Bravo to Marsh, no run, a better length, fuller, and played forward into the off side

10.4

Bravo to Marsh, no run, on the legs, the batsman spots it early but hasn't quite picked the speed and as he looks to push it to the legs the ball pops up and goes forward

10.5

Bravo to Marsh, FOUR, pushed across him, the batsman goes for the late cut and gets a thick edge over the vacant slip area, and Marshall runs in, slides and lands awkwardly on his right shoulder, returns with his left arm, can't point with his right hand, and his back foot appears to have only bridely connected with the rope, but it's enough

Actually, it's more of a raised sponsor's mini barrier, and his foot might not have touched if it were the rope. Marshall is in some pain there, and he's down a few minutes as the physio comes on to assess him

He's sitting up now as the questions continue to come

10.6

Bravo to Marsh, no run, outside off, driven to the covers

Patrick Browne is the sub fielder for Marshall

End of over 11 (11 runs) Australia 64/0 (RR: 5.81)
SE Marsh    40* (46b 4x4 1x6)      DJ Bravo    3-0-20-0
SR Watson    21* (20b 2x4)      SJ Benn    2-0-3-0

11.1

Benn to Watson, 2 runs, the lap sweep from Watson who's quickly down the track outside off, exposes the stumps and connects well through fine leg

11.2

Benn to Watson, no run, defended hard on the front foot

11.3

Benn to Watson, no run, up there on off, round-armed in and the batsman defends on the front foot

11.4

Benn to Watson, FOUR, drags it a touch short, doesn't get up much, and Watson has to use all hiw power and pull hard in front of midwicket

11.5

Benn to Watson, no run, good reply, Watson this time forced to defend into the covers on the back foot

11.6

Benn to Watson, FOUR, outside off, again not much lift, the batsman crouches down, opens the face and runs it through third man, the ball rolling along happily although it's not the fastest outfield

End of over 12 (10 runs) Australia 74/0 (RR: 6.16)
SR Watson    31* (26b 4x4)      SJ Benn    3-0-13-0
SE Marsh    40* (46b 4x4 1x6)      DJ Bravo    3-0-20-0

12.1

Bravo to Marsh, no run, outside off, runs it down to third man

12.2

Bravo to Marsh, no run, forced across him once more, a defence off the back foot back down the line

12.3

Bravo to Marsh, no run, outside off, played into the covers

12.4

Bravo to Marsh, 1 run, swivel-pulled round to midwicket

12.5

Bravo to Watson, OUT, a huge shout as Watson walks right across his stumps - something he's been favouring this innings - and the ball comes in , pitching just outside off and rapping him in line with leg, Watson too late on the would-be flick off the legs

SR Watson lbw b Bravo 31 (59m 27b 4x4 0x6) SR: 114.81

So Watson goes, but not before helping his side to a very handy start with Marsh. The outfield's fairly slow and the track isn't the fastest. Ricky Ponting to the crease now

12.6

Bravo to Ponting, no run, some width outside off and Ponting leaves it first up

End of over 13 (1 run) Australia 75/1 (RR: 5.76)
RT Ponting    0* (1b)      DJ Bravo    4-0-21-1
SE Marsh    41* (50b 4x4 1x6)      SJ Benn    3-0-13-0

13.1

Benn to Marsh, FOUR, width outside off and cut hard through backward point for four

13.2

Benn to Marsh, no run, comes down the track and drives out in front of midwicket

13.3

Benn to Marsh, 1 run, floated in on off and worked out in front of square, Ponting's not interested in the second, Marsh is and chaos ensues - albeit briefly - Marsh is halfway down the track and has to get right back in

A slip in

13.4

Benn to Ponting, no run, on the front foot, defended forward, the bowler coming in round the wicket

13.5

Benn to Ponting, no run, defended forward

13.6

Benn to Ponting, no run, defended hard once again, to the gully now

End of over 14 (5 runs) Australia 80/1 (RR: 5.71)
RT Ponting    0* (4b)      SJ Benn    4-0-18-0
SE Marsh    46* (53b 5x4 1x6)      DJ Bravo    4-0-21-1

14.1

Bravo to Marsh, 1 run, comes in on the legs and brushed back out behind square

14.2

Bravo to Ponting, 1 run, on the front foot, comes forward and closes the face on one which is in line with off, flicking it out to midwicket

14.3

Bravo to Marsh, FOUR, some width outside off, drives hard through the covers to bring up his fifty on his one-day debut, the eighth Australian to make a half-century on ODI debut

This one came from 55 balls, with four fours and a six, and it's been some good aggression so far. David Boon is nodding sagely on the balcony

14.4

Bravo to Marsh, 1 wide, a wide down the leg side, can't much argue with that one

14.4

Bravo to Marsh, no run, overpitched outside off, driven hard to the man at mid off

14.5

Bravo to Marsh, no run, slower ball, and a good one, comes in on the legs and pushed out on the leg side, the ball popping up but without too much danger

14.6

Bravo to Marsh, no run, outside off, some width, cut behind gully

End of over 15 (7 runs) Australia 87/1 (RR: 5.80)
SE Marsh    51* (58b 6x4 1x6)      DJ Bravo    5-0-28-1
RT Ponting    1* (5b)      SJ Benn    4-0-18-0

The final Powerplay coming down now

15.1

Benn to Ponting, no run, on the front foot, driven out to mid on

15.2

Benn to Ponting, 1 run, extra loop, Ponting waits and drives out to mid off

15.3

Benn to Marsh, 1 run, comes back in from outside off, pushed to the covers and they charge through, some good running there

Some good running throughout in fact, so far this match

15.4

Benn to Ponting, no run, gets on the back foot, waits and cuts into the covers

15.5

Benn to Ponting, no run, a bit of a false stroke I'm afraid this time, cutting hard at one which comes in wider and flatter. Good bowling

15.6

Benn to Ponting, no run, defended on the front foot outside off

And the drinks van comes on to the pitch

End of over 16 (2 runs) Australia 89/1 (RR: 5.56)
RT Ponting    2* (10b)      SJ Benn    5-0-20-0
SE Marsh    52* (59b 6x4 1x6)      DJ Bravo    5-0-28-1

Taylor to replace Bravo now

16.1

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, outside off, stands on the back foot and guides it down to third man

16.2

Taylor to Ponting, no run, on off, steps down and has to check the shot, almost a hockey-like controlled flick towards mid on along the ground

16.3

Taylor to Ponting, no run, some swing away, driven out to mid off

16.4

Taylor to Ponting, no run, overpitched on off, pushed back towards the bowler

Good crowd in, plenty of atmosphere in St Vincent

16.5

Taylor to Ponting, no run, pitched up there, the batsman forces out to mid off

16.6

Taylor to Ponting, 1 leg bye, on the legs, worked out forward without much power

End of over 17 (2 runs) Australia 91/1 (RR: 5.35)
RT Ponting    2* (15b)      JE Taylor    4-0-21-0
SE Marsh    53* (60b 6x4 1x6)      SJ Benn    5-0-20-0

17.1

Benn to Ponting, 2 runs, ballooning ball comes on the legs, and it's swept round easily through backward square

17.2

Benn to Ponting, 1 run, drives hard to the covers for a single

17.3

Benn to Marsh, no run, over the wicket again, comes out and defends forward

It's been some good bowling from Benn so far today

17.4

Benn to Marsh, 1 run, on the knee and swept round through the 45

17.5

Benn to Ponting, no run, back round the wicket, defended on the front foot into the covers

17.6

Benn to Ponting, no run, width outside off, Ponting doesn't quite get hold of a work to the covers

End of over 18 (4 runs) Australia 95/1 (RR: 5.27)
RT Ponting    5* (19b)      SJ Benn    6-0-24-0
SE Marsh    54* (62b 6x4 1x6)      JE Taylor    4-0-21-0

18.1

Taylor to Marsh, no run, angled in to pitch in line with off, and Marsh is quick to jump into the line and defend on the front foot

18.2

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, outside off, the ball sits up and asks to be cut out off the back foot through point. The batsman obliges

18.3

Taylor to Ponting, OUT, some width right outside off and Ponting looks to slam it to the covers but instead drags a thick inside edge a long way and back onto the sticks

RT Ponting b Taylor 5 (24m 20b 0x4 0x6) SR: 25.00

Taylor roars his delight, as our picture captions always seem to say. As well he might; a big wicket

Michael Clarke to the crease now. Bad news - a slight drizzle and the ground staff are standing in readiness to hurry on the covers

18.4

Taylor to Clarke, no run, lets this one go through, the batsman shouldering arms now

18.5

Taylor to Clarke, no run, Clarke pushes into the covers this time, waiting for the ball to angle across him

18.6

Taylor to Clarke, no run, hustles across him, the batsman shouldering arms. Neat over from the bowler, including a handy wicket

19.1

Benn to Marsh, 1 run, steps across outside off, looking to sweep it to the legs, does so, and they scramble the single. Then comes the danger - Marsh halfway down the track and has to get back quickly as the ball comes in

19.2

Benn to Clarke, no run, back round the wicket, super delivery, drawing Clarke forward and curving away from his outside edge

19.3

Benn to Clarke, no run, on the front foot, the batsman pushes out towards the covers

19.4

Benn to Clarke, no run, some big loop, the batsman pushes on the front foot, once more unto the covers

19.5

Benn to Clarke, no run, some width outside off, some calls of "Wait on" and "Catch it, catch it" as the ball's cut down to the gully

19.6

Benn to Clarke, no run, again both calls, this time the batsman pushes to the covers

So, the end of the Powerplays and Australia find themselves 97 for 2, having been checked a touch by West Indies.

20.1

Taylor to Marsh, 1 leg bye, comes in straight and the batsman is nearly cut in half as he bends over what would be a pull

20.2

Taylor to Clarke, no run, back over the wicket for the right hander, who presses defensively on the front foot towards the covers

20.3

Taylor to Clarke, no run, up there on the legs, defended right forward

20.4

Taylor to Clarke, no run, some big width outside off, cut to point

20.5

Sarwan into the attack, now

21.1

Sarwan to Marsh, 1 run, oh! Very nearly brilliant! Marsh pops up to a diving Pollard at mid on whose force just can't quite carry him to the overhead snap

21.2

Sarwan to Clarke, 1 run, stands back and gives himself room to pull, the ball going straighter than he would have imagined, I imagine

21.3

Sarwan to Marsh, 2 runs, on the legs, pulled round through fine leg, just beating the man tidying there and Taylor runs round to oblige

21.4

Sarwan to Marsh, no run, turns ino him, looks to sweep, that shot hasn't brought him a huge amount of success today

21.5

Sarwan to Marsh, no run, an appeal now as yet again he goes for the sweep and misses it

21.6

Sarwan to Marsh, 1 run, and now he does connect through the sweep but the ball goes up in the air, albeit landing safe of deep square

End of over 22 (5 runs) Australia 105/2 (RR: 4.77)

Sarwan finding some decent turn that over

22.1

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, pushed out and they have to hurry as Sammy comes in with the side-arm shy that goes wide. Australia not afraid to go for the quick singles today

22.2

Taylor to Clarke, 1 run, outside off, on the back foot and cuts out to deep extra cover this time

22.3

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, banged in short and Marsh swivels round as he pulls to deep midwicket

Marsh calls for some tape for the base of his bat

22.4

Taylor to Clarke, 1 wide, some width outside off - and enough for it to be called even though he has suckered Clarke in to cutting at it, Bravo changing his action to not use his front arm at all

22.4

Taylor to Clarke, 1 run, pushed forward and they take a quick single

22.5

Taylor to Marsh, no run, round the wicket, pushed into the covers

22.6

Taylor to Marsh, 1 run, opens the face and runs the ball down to third man

Good to see bowlers are getting in on the innovation act - even if Taylor denied himself much power by taking his left/front arm out of the equation in the delivery eventually called wide. A Kevin Pietersen switch hit it wasn't, however

End of over 23 (6 runs) Australia 111/2 (RR: 4.82)

West Indies bowlers have done well to rein in Australia in these recent overs, the visitors having got off to a thumping start. Wickets always help, of course. Sarwan again

23.1

Sarwan to Marsh, 1 run, some good loop outside off and width, the batsman waits, gets over it and drives out to mid on

23.2

Sarwan to Clarke, no run, outside off, cut right into the ball, sending it the covers

23.3

Sarwan to Clarke, no run, works it to fine leg and there's a very gravelly "Wait on!"

23.4

Sarwan to Clarke, 2 runs, Clarke connects well with the pull, working it out to square

23.5

Sarwan to Clarke, no run, clips to the 45 and they decide not to risk the single

23.6

Sarwan to White, OUT, a huge shout, Sarwan has struck! White tries to lift it from a line with off over midwicket, misses it and goes on to strike him in front of middle, fairly high but not questionably so and the batsman has to go

CL White lbw b Sarwan 8 (17m 8b 1x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Australia's momentum being punctured a touch just at the end, but have they already gathered enough runs on this deck?

48.2

Sarwan to Lee, 2 runs, gets off the mark with a couple after a drive out to the covers

48.3

Sarwan to Lee, 1 run, flips this one wide outside off, and the batsman waits as it comes in full and drives into the covers

Bit of a flase dawn from Sarwan who ran in and pulled out of the bowling strdie. He apologises now to the umpire

48.4

Sarwan to Hopes, 1 run, swings a lazy mow over to deep midwicket on the front knee

48.5

Sarwan to Lee, SIX, gets hold of this one - a good, clean hit from Lee. We've seen him do this before, but that travelled on to the roof of one of the stands, down on one knee and delivers in between midwicket and mid on

48.6

Sarwan to Lee, 2 runs, pushed out to deep square and long leg runs round

End of over 49 (12 runs) Australia 263/7 (RR: 5.36)
B Lee    11* (4b 1x6)      RR Sarwan    5-0-34-1
JR Hopes    3* (5b)      CH Gayle    10-0-55-1

49.1

Bravo to Hopes, 2 runs, on middle and leg, and pushed out to midwicket

49.2

Bravo to Hopes, FOUR, pitched on middle and drummed hard between midwicket and mid on - getting hold of that one very well indeed

49.3

Bravo to Hopes, no run, steps back, gives himself room, but can only push the ball back to Bravo on the bump - sparking cheers from the crowd which are a touch previous

49.4

Bravo to Hopes, OUT, outside off and this time he drags on a full one back into the sticks, he hears the clicks and has to walk on his way

JR Hopes b Bravo 9 (11m 9b 1x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

49.5

Bravo to Johnson, 3 runs, slower ball, just planted up there on the legs, but it's flicked off to the legs and they run through very well indeed, Gayle a touch ginger in the outfield allowing them the third

49.6

Bravo to Lee, 1 run, attempts the yorker, Lee digs the not-quite-so full one back out to the bowler

Well, well, Australia have reached an imposing total after being sent in. It could have been even more had West Indies not dragged things back in the middle of the innings before Hussey and Haddin came together. Marsh and Watson had earlier set Australia on their way well before the mini-slump, Marsh reaching fifty on his one-day debut. Now Australia have a daunting 274 under their belts which will be extremely challenging in the conditions.

End of over 50 (10 runs) Australia 273/8
B Lee    12* (5b 1x6)      DJ Bravo    8-0-54-2
MG Johnson    3* (1b)      RR Sarwan    5-0-34-1
