The Wisden Trophy - 1st Test

West Indies v England

West Indies won by an innings and 23 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100  | Overs 101-150

4.2

Taylor to Strauss, OUT, there's the breakthrough, and that's the end of a nervy innings from the skipper. He was never allowed to settle, and in the end it was a full-length delivery that grazed the edge through to the keeper. Good tight bowling from Taylor, who really should have had that breakthrough in his last over

AJ Strauss c †Ramdin b Taylor 7 (20m 15b 1x4 0x6) SR: 46.66

England 8/1   AN Cook 1* (11b)   JE Taylor 2.2-1-6-1

9.3

Powell to Cook, OUT, oh that's horrible. A rank long-hop - the first short ball of the day - and Cook flaps his attempted pull straight to mid-on!

AN Cook c Sarwan b Powell 4 (46m 20b 0x4 0x6) SR: 20.00

England 31/2   IR Bell 19* (23b 2x4)   DBL Powell 1.3-1-1-1

25.5

Gayle to Bell, OUT, and he's got him! A fine, quicker ball from Gayle to which Bell tries to defend, and it takes a thick outside edge which flies low into the hands of first slip - an excellent, smart catch by Smith

IR Bell c Smith b Gayle 28 (92m 72b 3x4 0x6) SR: 38.88

England 71/3   KP Pietersen 30* (50b 4x4)   CH Gayle 1.5-0-4-1

42.3

Benn to Collingwood, OUT, oh dear, that's absolutely plumb! An aberration from Collingwood, who attempts to sweep one that is far too full for the shot, and there's no point wasting a review on that one

PD Collingwood lbw b Benn 16 (47m 61b 0x4 0x6) SR: 26.22

England 94/4   KP Pietersen 37* (89b 4x4)   SJ Benn 14.3-5-17-1

66.4

Benn to Pietersen, OUT, oh dear oh dear oh dear. It was an ungainly way to go, but Gayle kept his field in place and Pietersen's glory shot turned into an horrific spiralling top-edge. Ramdin called for it well, and claimed the catch!

KP Pietersen c †Ramdin b Benn 97 (227m 172b 12x4 1x6) SR: 56.39

England 180/5   A Flintoff 17* (65b 2x4)   SJ Benn 26.4-8-52-2

90.3

Powell to Flintoff, OUT, short, tight to the body, and cut straight to point! Oh dear, Flintoff doesn't add to his overnight score, and that is a disappointing way to end what has been a gritty innings. The ball just sat up and begged to be hit, but Freddie chose the wrong stroke and paid the price

A Flintoff c Nash b Powell 43 (227m 146b 3x4 0x6) SR: 29.45

England 241/6   MJ Prior 32* (64b 2x4)   DBL Powell 14.3-5-31-2

95.3

Taylor to Broad, OUT, whoops, there goes another one, and an unfulfilled Broad innings comes to an end. Full length, probing off stump and demanding a stroke, Broad tried to drive out of trouble but instead shovelled a fat edge to gully

SCJ Broad c Benn b Taylor 4 (22m 18b 0x4 0x6) SR: 22.22

England 256/7   MJ Prior 42* (76b 4x4)   JE Taylor 16.3-3-64-2

104.3

Benn to Prior, OUT, great catch by Benn! Prior lost patience, skipping down the pitch and attempting to smack him over the top but he couldn't get the elevation. The ball shot to Benn's left, at midriff-height, and he snaffled it smartly and comfortably with two hands

MJ Prior c & b Benn 64 (186m 109b 7x4 0x6) SR: 58.71

England 288/8   RJ Sidebottom 6* (21b 1x4)   SJ Benn 35.3-11-65-3

121.1

Taylor to Harmison, OUT, well, well, here's an interesting one, full and straight, Harmison is pinned on the crease by a ball angled towards the leg stump, Rudi Koertzen's finger goes up, but Harmison immediately appeals! The referral doesn't allow for the full HawkEye replay, so there's still a bit of guesswork to be done. And in the end, the umpires stick together, and Harmison is on his way!

SJ Harmison lbw b Taylor 7 (51m 53b 0x4 0x6) SR: 13.20

England 313/9   RJ Sidebottom 22* (68b 2x4)   JE Taylor 19.1-4-70-3

122.2

Benn to Panesar, OUT, another referral! And yet again, the umpire is vindicated as replays show that the ball would have clipped leg stump. More sharp turn, Panesar attempts to work off his legs, but fails. And that is the end of that

MS Panesar lbw b Benn 0 (5m 3b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

England 318/10   RJ Sidebottom 26* (72b 3x4)   SJ Benn 44.2-13-77-4
