India in West Indies Test Series - 4th Test

West Indies v India

India won by 49 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

After draws at Antigua, St Lucia, St Kitts, we move on to Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica, for the 4th and final test of the series. Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's live coverage of the Test Match. This is Binoy George, and along with Jamie Alter, we will take you through today's proceedings.

The last 8 tests played here have produced results. It was 1970/71, when India last won a test series in West Indies(1-0). Can they do it here, that's the big question. A lot is expected of this Indian team, can they pull it off?

The curator of the Sabina Park has dished out a pitch that will be to the faster bowlers' liking. Will India go in with four fast bowlers? It is unlikely though.

It is now over to Arun for some tidbits.

Thank You Binoy. We're at the Sabina Park, and it would be just apt to start off with a fact about the Sabina Park. Here it goes ...

Cricinfo fact file: The Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, is one of the oldest test venues in the Caribbean. It hosted its first test in 1930 and has since been one of West Indies' regular home venues (and lucky venues!). It is one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in the Caribbean, with the Blue Mountains to its north and the busy Kingston Harbour on the southern side. Home to the Kingston Cricket Club, it is one of the oldest First-Class venues too - having hosted first-class fixtures since 1894-95. It is scheduled to host the opening match of the 2007 Cricket World Cup. Click here to read more about Sabina Park.

Its back to Binoy now for some news on teams and the toss.

Thanks Arun. Just a word or two about the important 22-yards - the pitch looks brown in color and has a sprinkling of grass. Both captains think this isn't the kind of wicket one would tend to associate with Sabina Park - they think it will be slow, there will be tennis-ball kind of bounce, and will deteriorate as the test match progresses. The team winning the toss, will surely like to bat first.

Indian captain called correctly and chose to bat first. India go in with the same team, with the two fast bowlers and two spinners. West Indies also remain unchanged.

We're just minutes away from live action .. stay tuned!

Thanks, Binoy. This is Jamie Alter, and I'll take you through the next hour's play. Well, we've had quite a first hour here - India just struggling initially against a pumped-up West Indian opening attack. Sehwag and Jaffer never really got an opportunity to settle in, the quicks just came at them with all guns firing. Both Pedro Collins and Jerome Taylor were especially impressive with their line and pace. There's definitely something in this pitch, but its beenaccentuated by the quality of the bowling.

And that, folks, is lunch on the first day at Kingston. West Indies making a good, fiery start to Test, knocking off two quick wickets, but since then they've had to contend with the formidable duo of Laxman and Dravid. All the fast bowlers used have done a good job, they've kept the batsmen on their toes. This third-wicket assocation has now crept to 26 from 25.1 overs. Players and umpires are going off to get a bite and a breather, and I am about to do the same. It will be Binoy to continue proceeding after the interval. Do join us in 40 minutes time; in the meanwhile, feel free to check out the Match Bulletin and Gallery on cricinfo.com.

Its also time for Arun Gopalakrishnan to narrate a few interesting facts from the Cricinfo fact file.

Thanks guys! It's been progress at snail's pace as far as Indian fans are concerned; Very few runs and just two boundaries in the entire session - not too many Indian fans would have enjoyed that. Here's a fact that will keep you interested - again pertaining to the Sabina Park.

Cricinfo fact file: The Sabina Park, where West Indies and India have locked horns in the final test of the 4-match series, has been witness to the shortest match in the history of test cricket. The West Indies - England test match in 1998 lasted all of 62 deliveries (action packed though). England were reduced to 17 for 3 in 10.1 overs after chosing to bat first, when the match was abandoned because the pitch was considered dangerous to play on. This is the only record of a test match being abandoned after it had started because a pitch was deemed 'dangerous' to play on. Click here to read Christopher Martin Jenkins report from the Elecronic Telegraph about the test match.

I'll be back with many more such facts from time-to-time. It's back to Binoy and Jamie after the interval to take you through live action. Stay tuned.

Thanks, Binoy, I see you've left we with quite an interesting session lined up. It's me Jamie again, back from a break and viewing Argentina bow out of the football World Cup, while here at Sabina Park the hosts still continue to hold the advantage. They've picked up Laxman and Yuvraj since last I was commentating, and India have slumped into a deeper hole. The run rate's dipped under 1.50 - that's a rarity in Tests these days - and Dravid has been left to hold things together. He's sure been out there for a while.

We have some news on Ramnaresh Sarwan. He's had an X-Ray, and the word is that there's no fracture but he's continuing toreceive treatment from the physio. That was a nasty blow to the shin he received earlier in the day.

The Sabina Park has proved a lucky venue for the home side. Though he hasnt picked up a wicket yet, Corey Collymore is one bowler from the current West Indian lot who has had some success here. As one of our inhouse stats afficianodos, Kanishkaa Balachandran, pointed out before the match, Collymore knows quite a bit about running through sides at this venue.
