Pakistan's coach, Bob Woolmer, was a contented man after Pakistan's 59-run victory in the first one-day international in St Vincent, although he admitted that the result had not been quite as comprehensive as he would have liked.

"I don't like getting out with seven overs to go," Woolmer told Sky Sports after the match. "It was keeping a bit low but I thought we should have been looking at 230 or 240 because the ball was coming onto the bat quite nicely.

"A few guys got in and got out out again for 30s and 40s," added Woolmer. "Two scores of 60 would have made a difference. But you never know how a match will pan out until you've seen the whole game."

Pakistan came into the match with just one warm-up fixture under their belt, but Woolmer was not concerned about a lack of acclimatisation. "We've recently finished a tough tour of India," he explained, "then there were the Tsunami relief games in Abu Dhabi, and then most of the guys were involved in the Twenty20 competition in Pakistan.

"So we've not really had a break, and I guess this is more of a rest schedule as we build up to the series. We reckoned it would only take us one match to get going, and I thought the guys adapted well."
