After winning the toss, South Africa posted a competitive total of 245, after a major contribution from Boeta Dippenaar, who smashed 64 of 74 balls including nine fours and two sixes. Mark Boucher returned to form too, stroking 59 with seven boundaries, while Ashwell Prince, one of the centurions from the Antigua Test, chipped in with 32. Jermaine Lawson, who last played for West Indies in 2003, was the best bowler for Jamaica, taking 4 for 39, while Bevan Brown, the offspinner, scalped 4 for 41.
Jamaica got off to a poor start, losing both openers early - Xavier Marshall for 11 and Marlon Samuels, their captain, for 6. Tyson Gordon was the only batsmen who provided some resistance, hitting 70. Brown also contributed with the bat, hitting a quickfire 37 of 26 balls, but failed to take Jamaica to a winning position as they were bundled out for 216. Pollock was the chief destroyer. Andre Nel, who missed the last Test with an injury, supported Pollock with a tidy spell of 2 for 36 in seven overs.
The one-day series starts with a double-header in Jamaica this weekend.
