  • It was the 1674th ODI in cricket history.
  • It was Australia's 470th and Zimbabwe's 175th ODI.
  • It was the 16th match between these two sides. The record now reads: Australia 15, Zimbabwe 1.
  • Simon Katich (left handed middle order batsman and slow left arm chinaman bowler) became the 143rd Australian to play ODI cricket.
  • Umpires Steve Davis and Peter Parker officiated in their 21st and 31st match respectively.
  • Andy Flower played his 163rd consecutive match, which takes him past South Africa's Hansie Cronje's tally of 162 matches without a break. Cronje had played 162 matches at a stretch in between 1993-94 and 1999-00. Flower is now only 22 short of India's Sachin Tendulkar's world record of most matches at a stretch. Just for the record, Flower has not missed a single match since his debut against Sri Lanka at New Plymouth in 1992 World Cup.
  • Australia took the field without one of the Waugh brothers for only the second time in last 332 matches and for the first time since the match against New Zealand at Sydney on 14-01-1998.
  • Ian Harvey (4-28) became the 35th Australian to bag four wickets in a match. He also provided the 99th such instance by an Australian. His previous best was 3 for 17 against New Zealand at Sydney on 14-01-1998. Overall it was the 610th.
  • The first wicket partnership of 50 runs between Alistair Campbell and Guy Whittall was Zimbabwe's best for this wicket in WSC matches obliterating the previous highest of 49 runs between Andy and Grant Flower also against Australia at Perth on 02-12-1994.
  • The eighth wicket partnership of 32 runs between Heath Streak and Mluleki Nkala was the highest for Zimbabwe for this wicket against Australia in all matches. This obliterated the previous record partnership of 27 runs between Ian Butchart and Peter Rawson at Chennai on 13-10-1987.
  • Brett Lee's figures (8-0-70-0) was the most expensive by an Australian in eight over spell equalling Adam Dale's performances. Dale had conceded same number of runs bowling one over maiden against South Africa at Bloemfontein on 13-04-1997.
  • Lee's figures is the worst by any bowler in eight over spell against Zimbabwe beating Kenya's Asif Karim's performance. Karim had conceded 64 runs at Dhaka in the final of Meril International Tournament on 27-03-1999.
  • Darren Lehmann (92*) became the second Autsralian to become a victim of nervous ninety in a match against Zimbabwe after David Boon, who has suffered this fate on two occasions. Lehmann also became the 18th Australian on 35th occasion to make a score in 90s.
  • Australia registered its 13th win in a row in World Series Cup matches. Interestingly Australia had last lost a WSC match on 09-01-2000 against Pakistan at Brisbane. Australia had a run of seven consecutive wins before that defeat. Thus Australia has now lost only one match in last 21 World Series Cup matches.
  • Lehmann won his fourth Man of the Match award in his 63rd match.
